If you want to claim a scalp, play the Carlton Football Club. Everybody else has taken their piece...

As soon as any team turns up the heat, we melt like butter.....

Next week will make it 3 losses in past 4 games.........

2011 beginning to look eerily like 2010: a great first half of the year followed by a poor second half.

Still a lot of footy left to play so we still have control of our own destiny. And we have been much better this year than last, so the test is on to see how far we have really come.

In a weird way I'm really looking forward to next week. Hoping for a win, but can't really see it happening. What we need, though, is a tough four quarter effort where we focus on winning the hard ball and forget about the result.

GO BLUES!!!

Is Waite the new Fev?
No Waite = no forward line

We can't seem to win the big games without a fit and functioning Waite.

Luke Mitchell and Levi Casboult can't come on quickly enough.

The Dogs were better, tougher, faster and worked as a team.

We were flat-footed, cute, soft, selfish and stupid.

If you want to beat us, hunt us in packs. Watch our players go weak at the knees and shit their pants when they see no support from their mates, and you've got us.

We keep giving these dipshits reason to laugh at us and mock us, every chance to shut their faces about being flat-track bullies, and time and again we prove them right.

The only 'positive' (such as it is) that I can think of, is that the Dogs can't play much better than this. They were terrific today and if I was a Doggies supporter I'd be very @#$%&! excited about what I saw.

We got done on the day.
We have to find some talls who can step up for a few weeks.
No need to panic. We are better that tonight's game.
I was hoping for a big game next week but I think we will struggle on tonight's form. Collingwood will be equally as hard at it if not more so. Maybe we should just throw it like Freo did last year in Launceston and use the week to rest a few players who are suffering from niggles.

From all accounts these boys are a long way off senior footy at this stage.

Weak as Piss!!!
So many positive signs this year but also many negatives - still seem mentally fragile at crucial times.
I don't know what the solution is but hopefully someone does

That's a shame :/

I'm really happy with the defensive-half recruiting offseason, but I think we really need to look at recruiting a VFL forward this October.
Someone like a Crameri/Podsiadly would make a world of difference to us at the moment.

You only have to look at the team that beat us to know that seasons have ups and downs.

I was at training yesterday and the team looked flat and a number of players seemed far from fresh. I think we picked too many that were underdone. You could see it after half time.

Our work around the packs was terrible and that is where teams can get us as our whole gameplan revolves around us winning the clearancs or keeping heat on the ball if we lose it. Today we were terrible at that.
We need to work on it and tidy it up as teams know it know and will target that instead of trying to outsize us like teams tried in the first half of the season.

We need to better the pressure teams are focussing on putting on us.

The blues will be solution focussed and will move on quickly. I hope they pick a fresher team next week and take out a bit of the lumbering types and replace them with hard running types.

Glad the top4 talk has passed and we can focus on getting our game and fitness right without having added pressure.
With our late bye we can still have an impact come september.

We definitely prefer the spaces at the MCG and struggle when sides get numbers back to block space for our mobile fwd line.

Thought we were in trouble by selecting a tall for a small at selection. Generally our balance has been really good this year but the two times we have taken an extra tall (WCE being the other) we have struggled.

Also, thought we were really out coached today and a lot of our players looked tired and sore.

Questions I have are:

Like White last week Bower was brought in after injury and average form at the bullants. I still dont get it.

Why does Warnock keep getting pushed up to FF when he doesnt get in front and doesnt get his arms up?

Why persist with Hendo at FB? We desperately need a strong KPF and we have several players who can play key defender?

Players such as Houlihan and AJ have question marks over them. Hoops is slow and AJ's kicking is his big problem.

Touhy, Curnow need to get back into that side for next week.

According to reports Zac was excellent yesterday but Ed has some more work to do.

soft as butter.
A couple of cheap goals in the second that put us ahead, but then nothing. Not even a yelp.
Something is not quite right when a potential top 4 side has 13 of the last 16 goals kicked against them.
Was staggered to see that we had something like 50 more disposals and had that buffer all night, yet butchered the ball.
Still happy with Hendo's effort.
Bower was sluggish but IMO needs a good solid 3-4 weeks at the level before we evaluate him.
Waite going down hurts big time. The 2 book ends Jamo and Waite on the sidelines and the pies next week :banghead:
Something tells me there will be plenty of seats available next saturday

I reckon the game is 20% quicker than the last time hoops was fit. He had time to use his skills before. He doesn't now, and he doesn't bring much else. He's making Gibbs look quick out there.

This loss was just as bad as the Nth Melb loss last year. This will eradicate the confidence the team had.

We are in desperate need of someone to take the heat off Waite up forward. Thornton looked lively when moved to the forward line after 1/2 time and should be preserved with against Collingwood.

Ohalipin should be rushed straight back into this team if fit. Henderson was ok on Hall and he is worth preserving with in the backline along with Bower who i thought was good in the 2nd half.

Heard from a number of sources..independent to one another that around 10 are carrying niggles/soreness. Now I know this is par for the course and every club has to manage soreness and injury, but it's crept in big time this week. By my calculations we had Waite, Russell, Judd and Scotland who possibly shouldn't have played. Sit your tagger on Murphy and you're set!

Funnily enough, this plagued Bryce Gibbs for the first month, and he's since provided some great run and energy where needed.

With a 6 day turnaround, the fitness/coaching staff have their work cut out for them. I don't wanna hear much about coaching moves...Ratts' hands were tied big time coming into this game. We've a great test of depth approaching us....all of a sudden, it looks pretty shallow.

I don't think we have a lot of options, Taff. if Waite is out, Hampson is out, Jamo is out, Setanta is out, White is out, somebody has to come in, ready or not. Sometimes, players come in and step up. The next issue is keeping Warnock and Kreuzer on the park because if we lose one of them, we have nobody else who can play in the ruck. Tonight Waite played when he possibly went in sore and shouldn't have. If that's true, it was a bad move but a reflection of where we are depth-wise with our talls. With a few less injuries, Hendo may have been able to go forward but we couldn't even do that. Bower is not the answer up front. Maybe we have to play Thornton at FF for a couple of weeks and go shorter down back. Who knows but injuries to talls have killed us this season. I think we've done well to get where we are and if we can hold on and get players back for September, we will play a lot better than tonight and can upset anybody.
