Couldn't agree more tommi

To me the win is incidental to the big picture... what matters is how we play, how we compete (win, lose or draw) against the benchmark... and what matters is what we've got in reserve for the finals!

..rolling the dice stuff.. ..first, no way to measure what we take out from a win in regards to player/club belief and confidence.. ..secondly, there's no way of knowing if that 'ace up the sleeve' will actually even work..

Says who?

It's what they're known as here and I think we're a good chance.

Collingwood are Filth, Essendon* are Scum (note capital letters indicate the proper noun)
Filth are always filth and Scum are always scum
But the Filth can be scum and the Scum can be filth (small letter noun)

So your topic would be correct if it read

Our Chances Taking on the Black and White scum
rather than
Our Chances Taking on the Black and White Scum

Clear?

Yep, it sounds like balderdash to me, let alone the damage it could do to our ladder standing. If we were to muck around, I'd hope it would be in regards to getting things right for September rather than keeping anything 'in reserve' just for Collingwood's sake.

Yep, need to 'show our hand' every week otherwise we could find ourselves out of the top 4.

The likes of Jamison and Hampson is enough for a show of hands come finals...

Now is the time to test our game plan for the Filth. No point in waiting to september, because if it doesn't work we will not be able to fix it in time.

Go hell for leather next week and then assess whether we need to re-jig it and perfect it come finals time.

I don't think we should get too far ahead of ourselves, I would of thought, yeah nah, to be honest.

But, having said that, I think we of a chance.

It's a make or break game, AND it's an 8 point games, so I reckon the boys come to play and they give it a shake.

As long as we are "Up and about", provided we "Come to play" and "Structure up" well, we are in with a shot for sure.

iF the club doesn't "tick all the boxes" wer'e finished

Guys I think you misunderstand me. I don't mean that we should "muck around", "roll the dice", "not go hell for leather", not bring our A-game etc. against the Pies, as some of the comments suggests.

I mean a trick up our sleeve that we keep in reserve for when it really counts...finals time... a trick as in, I dont know, perhaps stacking our fwd line with talls for example.

In finals any little advantage you can get over an opponent, eg. a suprise tactical move, is like GOLD and could mean the difference between a victory or a loss.

If we're good enough we'll make top 4 regardless of the result against the filth.

Home & Away games are not the be-all-and-end-all.... Finals are!

The problem with keeping a trick up your sleeve is that if it backfires, the last place you would want that to happen is in a final.

Take a look at the last 2 premiers (pies & cats) both play the same game plan in finals as they do in the regular season and for good reason. When the extreme pressure of a finals game is on, players instinctively revert to what has been drilled in them all season.

Play the pies with the game plan that we want to take to finals, if it comes up short then we re-jig it and will still have 8+ weeks to drill it into the team so that when we meet next time, we get another chance to see if we have made enough ground to get the job done.

As I recall, the Pies played through Matty Watson's opponent last time and exposed the kid''s inexperience and lack of strength..

Is this the Carlton v Collingwood pre-pre-match thread? If so, will there be separate pre-match, match and post match threads or do we just keep posting in this one until September when we play them again?

If only you'd thought of Collingwood at that moment.
