Incidentally, the thing above anything else that will win or lose us this game will be pressure. Pressure was way down last week and the Eagles monstered us both on and off the ball. We have the edge on the Tigers in that area and we need to make use of that advantage. Tigers are notorious for coughing the ball up under pressure. The boys need to get @#$%&! angry.

It was interesting hearing Ratts talk about us being "too cute" last week. This is probably just the conspiracy part of my brain talking, but I noticed after the Sydney game very little was said (zero by the coach IIRC) about the last quarter fadeout. I wonder if too much was drummed into the boys about how awesome they were for 3 qtrs rather than what was a pretty worrying dropoff in intensity in the end. That same drop in intensity seemed to continue into the Eagles game and we got pants'd because of it.

Some of you need to think back to the second half of last year and
remember what you said about Jamison then. Injury had robbed him of
proper match preparation and condition and he really struggled.

Just like Bower is now.

Personally I don't think Bower's best is quite as good as Jamison's, but
it's still pretty damn good. Cut the guy some slack - a good off season and IMO we've got a serious A grader.

As for Austin ... who knows. Haven't seen him play really well, but haven't really seen that much of him either. The selectors know what they're doing.

Seriously, what has he shown?

What did White show against Riewoldt in round one?

Austin was stiff after he had to play forward and back due to Hendo taking Jamo's spot in the backline. Wasn't allowed to settle in one position in his first game in two years. From a physical standpoint, Austin is nearly as big as Jamison, so he ticks more boxes than White who looks undersized. Apart from one error, Aussie wasn't exposed against Cox, Kennedy and Naitanui who are big men.

The match committee have done a great job, yet they haven't got it right every time. They started Collins ahead of Walker, promoted Henderson too early and traded for Mclean whose inside work was needed last week. Ratten has learnt a lot, but he still his favourites like Ellard who had a mare, yet survived. Mclean and others have been dropped after similar games to Ellard's. Malthouse rarely drops a player after one week. Their use of player rotations to keep their players fresh and give time to their second tier was one of the reasons why they won the flag. If you chop and change, then you'll never get to see what a player can do.

So until he shows this in training and the VFL he will not be getting a game in the seniors

This is coming from a person who has the type of membership that he sits in the coaches box a couple times a year

I believe it - I heard some very senior Carlton officials make similar comments during the game against Brisbane. McLean is in the same boat.

Seriously, who is overrating and hyping him?

No one has said he's a superstar, all we're saying is he's been on the list a long time so he's obviously shown something to someone important and it'd be nice to see him get a chance.

You missed the point.
I'm drawing an analogy in the discussion of upside.
Too subtle?

Everybody in the media are saying "Carlton got a reality check last week"...............

Err,............... I believe Carlton were the ones not getting too carried away! If anybody got a reality check it was 99% of journos doing puff pieces about us.

I always knew the Eagles would be a threat. No Curnow and No Robbo were HUGE outs and as soon as Jamo went down in the 1st then it was always going to be tough. Essentially, not only did we loos a defender, but we lost a forward as well due to Hendo being shipped down back to cover Jamo (not that hendo was doing anything anyway!)

Richmond were woeful against Melbourne and VERY lucky against a lazy Brisbane. They have been far from impressive and even without Jamo, we should win this by 6 + goals.

Robbo back in is huge and Waite up forward is going to give them as much headaches as supposedly Riewoldt will do to us. IN FACT,

All these morons saying "Jamo out gives Tigers talls the edge.........." I'm pretty sure Jamo wasn't even playing in round 1???

However, Richmond do however usually give us a scare (see back to round 1 when they took the lead in the 3rd qtr) so they shouldn't be taken lightly.

Carlton by 35+

More or less agree with you, but I will make the point that the only reason Richmond were in the same hemisphere as us in Rnd 1 was that
we could not kick straight.

Welcome aboard paccman.
Thanks for sharing this informaion.

Like I said earlier on, there was something odd about Bower last game he played.
He didn't seem like he wanted to get dirty. Didn't really attack the footy or the man with the footy.

I'm glad he's out till he plays the way the new Carlton play.
Having said that I'm still a huge Bower fan...because I've seen what he can do...and I've seen him win easily against TBird and Jamo in one on ones...but that was in the preseason...he needs to get back to his best.

I'll second the welcome to Paccmann; thanks for the insight, although it's disappointing that they make such a judgement after 20 minutes of play when returning from injury.
