Everything that could go wrong did (except perhaps their accuracy)

Pro
We only lost by 6 goals to the 5th placed team in the best game they have played this year.

Pros:

Thought it was one of Betts' best games for the year. His intensity and creativity were superb.
I thought it was one of Russell's best games for the year.
I thought Warnock's ruck work early in the 3rd term helped us get back in the game.
I thought Austin competed pretty well (especially in defence).
I thought O'Keeffe looked pretty nervous, but good he got some decent game time.
I thought Hendo competed pretty well in defence in the 2nd half. Just wish he'd compete and bring the ball to ground with the same desperation when playing up forward. Too often the last couple of weeks he's been outmarked up forward.
Not much worked, but I thought it was good the MC tried a few things. Trying to get back in the game through run and carry in the 2nd half. And Garlett onto the ball. And Yarran to full forward in the last quarter.
Murph's effort to try and lift the team at the start of the 2nd half.
Ellard was pretty good again.
We get a break from playing on the indoor hard surface.

Cons:

Easily our worst performance for the year.
Jamo's injury. Really, really costly.
Skill level was down. Really obvious early where we'd go forward and passes would land a few metres in front of the leading forward. Saw it a lot throughout the game.
Our ball movement compared to West Coast's.
West Coast's ability to get really good clearances. Not sure if there was something wrong with our set ups.
Those West Coast gaols late in the 3rd term really killed us.
Not only were we missing some of our foot soldiers, but some of our better players were down. Judd, Kreuzer, Walker, etc.
I'm a Houla fan, but hasn't really done anywhere near enough the last 5 quarters.
Garlett kicked 3 goals, but made some very strange goalkicking decisions. Should use his left foot more.
After a couple of super games, Carrots had a down game.

PROS
-Good to see Rhys O'Keeffe finally debut, wish it was from the start of the game though.

-Third quarter fightback, albeit short lived. The WCE throw that resulted in a goal snuffed out that though.

-All those bandwagoners in the media can now bugger off.

-Reality check, hopefully the boys can bounce back next week.

CONS
-Not strictly match related but WHY THE FLOWER WAS THE ROOF LEFT OPEN???? I spent the first half being blinded by the sun and only able to see half of the ground (how must it be having to actually play in those conditions?). Then i spent most of the second half being rained on. Flower the dips*** morons who made that decision. Three weeks of being able to only see half the game- thanks for nothing Collo. The only redeeming feature of your rubbish stadium is your roof- how about you use it???? Thank goodness we are not playing in that dump next week, and the sooner we are permanently out of that hole the better.

-Our inability to take a mark in our forward 50 regularly, we really missed Waite this week, hope he is back soon.

-Leaving an obviously injured Jamison on the ground for 20 minutes before taking him off. Playing injured players never works, yet we wasted nearly a whole quarter with Jamison on the ground who was unfortunately a liability. And why play an obviously not right Ellard? He may be preferred over Brock McLean but he really was not able to contribute at all.

-Warnock's timid game. It seems that it has taken until the last month that Hampson has been regularly playing with the enough aggression at the contest, would be great if Warnock could learn from Hampson's last month.

-I hate hearing the umpires names before the game and thinking we are in for a rough game.....and being right.

-Carlton supporters giving hell to their own- save it for the opposition and the umpires who really deserve it.

-Having to listen to that rubbish Big Bird song TWICE. All I could think of was Sesame Street. IMO definitely the worst club song. There are a few turgid tuneless numbers in the AFL but I don't think their lyrics come close to the crapness of that number.

I agree with everything in this post.

I refer to the WCE theme song as a Christian rock song gone horribly wrong.

Pros
- As someone else posted - we have found out what certain players are capable or not capable of, we have a clearer picture of our best 22.
- Henderson back in defence in the 2nd half. Hope the MC keep him there.
- Scotland, Murphy, Betts, Yarran and Russell.
- Waite & Robbo (and hopefully Curnow, Laidler and Duigan) to return next week.

Cons
- Jamo injury
- Austin not up to it IMO
- Houlihan
- Armfield OK as a back pocket but lacks the skills polish in the middle of the ground. It's a pity Kane Lucas has gone backwards this year.

I couldn't believe the eagles were paying that much.

Why is Austin getting it? First game in the seniors for how long? After being out injured for how long? Give the kid a break. The ball was coming down rapid fire and so well that SOS would have had major trouble.
Blame our mid fielders. Ellard was unsighted. Judd a rare quiet day.

With our lack of tall defenders the rucks should have been drifting back to help cover, where were they. In other words, basically the whole team was outgunned.

$4.70 is great value, especially when you think we went into this game without Curnow, robbo, & dugian.

The importance of these three players is so crucial to this side and without them, we will struggle.

And I'll give you the hot tip........ If those 3 dont play next week, and If Jammo isn't fit for next week, I'm loading up on Richmond.

Cons

Team still lacks maturity of a top 4 side - last quarter against the swans was indicative of yesterdays performance

A throw back to second half of last year for effort application and g and d

Still need to have a good list of 30 to be a top side - not there yet

Ridiculous putting injured Jamison back on the ground couldnt run -could have risked a more serious injury to a vital player

Need to be able to win without Murphy and Judd starring

Too cute going forward -how many perfect style passes that ended up being grubbers in the first 2 quarters

Back to the bad old days of struggling to get it out of backline

Too much praise in the last 2 weeks -playing like millionaires -turn it on when they want to - not good enough

West Coast with draw likely to take top 4 spot - do we want it enough

Kerr holding the ball that wasnt UNBELIEVABLE

Pros

Scotland
Garlett Betts

Pros
Murphy, Scotland, Yarran and Gibbs
Betts hunger
Thornton actually caught Jamo's disease and started looking forward rather than backward (though reverted occasionally).

Cons
Kick ins seemed to have returned to last years shammozzle
Garlett getting too fancy, back to the simple things please
Umps only paid 1 holding free on Judd, constantly held prior to taking possession. Surely Carlton could prepare a video and send into AFL and ask WTF? Kerr was worst offender (not paid becuase Kerr is not regarded as a tagger?)
Umps no longer know the difference between a throw and handball.
Thornton's headbutt
Our lack of tall defenders exposed
Our lack of marking forwards (Walker out of form?)

Must frustrating aspect was Gibbs, such great talent but not used in manner by Ratt's to make an impact.

We just aren't quite there oh why did we take Brock over a tall ? Lack of confidence in Murph? What do we get for GWS trade for him? First round draft pick?

Pros: The boys should now know if you don't bring your 'A' game each week you will get smacked. Best thing that could have happened to the team for the longer term benefit.

Cons: Supporters who drop the bottom lip after a loss quicker than the Tax Man can put out his hand for your money. :screwy: :screwy:

:garthp:

Aussie's first game in ages.

Watson, Jamison and McCarthy with Laidler the third man up.

We've missed Laids' ability to come across and give our backs a chop out like WC did yesterday.
