I love how after a loss all the blokes who weren't in the team turn into superstars.

That one crap game is probably going to cost us the double chance. 3 years in a row of playing elimination finals... 2 losses so far..... If Freo/Swans get up and running we might have another interstate final....there will be no pressure going into that game....

If we "rested" players this week, the match committee needs to be sacked. Why would you "rest" players in an 8 point game? :donk:

We had a bye a few weeks ago, why do we need to "rest" players?

You don't play the style we do in 2011 without a physical toll. The season starts in September.

You have to get to September....to have a chance you need to finish top 4. Other spots are making up numbers and generating revenue for AFL.

We seem to be blooding players lately, ie. O'Keeffe, Tuohy and having real inexperienced players out there.

We were too short in the backline today, bad mistake from the match committee not to bring in a Setanta and/or Bower for that extra height.

Missed Waite badly today, need his presence down forward as Hendo I believe is better down back. Hendo did well when he went there.

How many times did we just bomb the ball out of the backline just to then see it come back over our heads with interest?

Before today I thought Henderson could make it. Now, doubtful. I have never seen a worse game!! No heart.

Ummmmmmm did we not draft J. Darling because we thought he was our answer up forward?

Need KP players!! Here's hoping Watson kicks on next year and we draft a tall forward!

You won't see the best from either Bower or Henderson this year but I believe both will eventually
be A graders, (or close to it). They need continuity of preparation and it just hasn't happened this
year.

Warnock wouldn't have played today based on recent VFL form, but with Hammer and O'halpin out options
were limited.

There's games worth 8 points? Christ, someone call the club and tell them to plan for this immediately!

A well Deserved Loss.... it had to happen.... We Lost the battle in the midfield because our best 3 Grunt players were absent!!!

Robinson- Missing

Curnow- Missing

Ellard- Should not have played.... he was still concussed and out of it

Add to that the loss of Hammer and half of our Defense, then i would say it was a good loss....

We will rebound quickly next week......

First Choice and Form Ruckman Missing - Hampson (Kreuze cant be considered first ruck at the moment)
Best Tall Forward Missing - Waite
Best Tall Defender Missing - Jamison (Might as well not have played getting that injury so early)
2 Best Medium/Grunt Defenders Missing - Duigan and Laidler
2 Best Grunt Midfielders Missing - Robinson and Curnow - Could argue Robinson has been one of our best players overall the past month

and you are missing pretty much a third of your best side and all missing from important positions

lets see the majority of teams , if not all cope with that.

be realistic people

Effectively worth 8 points yes. We were 6 points clear of WCE before today, we are now only 2 points clear. We win, we are 10 points clear of them. 10 - 2 = 8. Comparing the teams we play compared to the teams the Eagles play, there is every chance that we will finish 5th or 6th now.

So what you're saying is we're 2pts clear still?

No, we lost 8 points, so we're 12 points behind now, ie 8 point game + 4 points for the loss.

I tipped 8. That's gotta be worth something.

We've just sat through a week of the media talking us up as flag chances.

No we'll have to put with a week of 'gee, didn't the blues get ahead of themselves?'

Actually I think the problem is me going to the football. My last 2 games have been West Coast and Geelong. Might stay home for the rest of the season to guarantee us the flag...

After Round 14

Our remaining games are:
Tigers
Bulldogs
Pies
Essendon*
North
Melbourne
Freo (Perth) (Sandilands and Mundy will probably be back)
Hawthorn
Bye
Saints

Eagles play:
Bye
Geelong (Perth)
Saints
Freo (No Sandilands)
Bulldogs
Tigers (Perth)
Melbourne
Essendon* (Perth)
Brisbane (QLD)
Adelaide (Perth)

After round 22 will we be 2 points clear?

no game is a certainty so eagles could lose a few they are expected to win and so forth, it happens, going to be a real close on that 4 spot, probably come down to us beating the hawks.

most disappointing thing today for me is warnock, just plain utter gash, no intensity and no strength

we didnt play well at all, the behind the play stuff really irked me all day and i find we jumped the gun a bit with where we are.
we will make the finals and we will be very happy about how we played this year but seriously we wont win the premiership unless we get really lucky.

we also overate our players big time.

Lets take a step back here, why are we finishing 5th suddenly with West Coast winning every game? There is another side we are only half a game behind who play Collingwood next week. We beat Richmond and Hawthorn lose, we go 3rd. A lot could still ride on our Round 11 game against Hawthorn, but they still have games they could conceivably drop against Freo, Melbourne and North.

West Coast still have to play Geelong, and come to Melbourne to play St Kilda, Doggies & Melbourne. Also the derby against Freo which could be tricky.

I wasnt happy with how we played today, but we had a lot of players missing and coincidentally its the worst we have played this year on an opponent which on paper looked a tricky match up.

For those thinking Hawthorn are the most awesome team in the world and we are crap based on this weeks results, we played an in form side who was 5th at full strength. Hawthorn were playing an out of form mediocre side with no confidence (like Geelong playing Adelaide today).

Should be ripper game when Geelong take on West Coast in a couple of weeks.

Collingwood weren't supposed to lose a game all season.
Essendon* were going to be 9-1 after 10 rounds after their dream start to the season.
Carlton were not going to make the finals.

etc

There are still 9 games to play this season.

I can't for the life of me figure out how Ellard gets selected in front of Brock. Doesn't get enough of the ball and had 4 or 5 costly turn overs today that cost us dearly

I thought Ellard was one of the few to actually win some clearances today. I saw worse turnovers from Juddy and Carrots, then I did from Ellard.
It's true that Ellard's kicking got smothered a couple of times, but he certainly wasn't alone in that. Same happened with Juddy and others as well.
Stats say we were evenly matched accross the board

Carlton Attribute West Coast
187.2cm Height 189.7cm
86.8kg Weight 90.6kg
24yr 5mth Age 24yr 7mth
83.5 Games 85.5
I would have thought 2.5cm (plus the extra wingspan) and almost 4kg is a fairly significant difference. Because they were able to control the movement of the ball, they monstered us in the aerial duels. I think we were hoping to use our footspeed advantage, but just couldn't win enough ball, or move it quickly enough.
