GWS was never in the hunt. I mean does Matt K have a taller younger brother who's got some ability, but is too lazy to get of his widening arse to stick at an AFL career, even when it's handed to him on a plate, that they can hint might have a future at the club?

No.

I'm saying that he's become attached to us and we are to him. There's mutual respect and he likes where he is at the moment. If it had been another club that he'd started at the situation would probably be no different.

If a woman who earns more than your wife walks up to you and asks you to move in with her tomorrow are you going to do that? Maybe you will, maybe you won't. But I can guarantee there'll be considerations to take into account outside of the purely financial.

Matthew Kreuzer's next contract will place him in the top 1% of income earners in this country regardless of where he plays.

Obviously that and the community he's currently a part of is more important to him than more cash and life away from his family and friends.

Players will leave clubs for money and opportunity.

Have a look at an ex Carlton player at Richmond...I think his name is Grigg.

He left for more money, but also opportunity.

There's no way Grigg would have a certaintly in the 2011 circa Blues.
And being with Ninethmond, there's no guarantee they will see much of finals either.

Now Kruezer has the opportunity to play for a BIG club, and I'm sure he's looked after financially as well.

Carlton will give Kreuzer an opportunity to play in a Premiership, GWS...dunno.
Who wants to play in west Sydney, let alone live there?

It's simple.

I don't miss Grigg one bit....Richmond can have that deadly right footer.

My eyes welled up in that third quarter too SB; at least we can agree on something.

I guess Matt K chose rich and happy over filthy rich and unhappy.

I don't think Sydney is totally off the money here...boom tish
Clubs and the AFL do take advantage of player loyalty and they generally spend a lot more of their lives not playing the game than playing it, but...

I guess it comes down to how you are wired, if you believe that money buys happiness then that will be your criteria for job satisfaction, others are wired other ways. I know you have dismissed them Sydney, but the reasons many have brought up in this thread are valid ones to knock back the money.

I heard Grigg on SEN yesterday I think it was, and had no regrets whatsover that he was allowed to go to Richmond. I think they asked him whether it was because Carlton had a good midfield and that he wanted more opportunities elsewhere. He said he knew before the end of the season that he wanted to go to Richmond and asked to be traded there.

I think it is hilarious Richmond are crowing about a 30 point win over (arguably) the worst team in the competition, and particularly when they were almost even stevens for 3 quarters of the game.

They have some super potential but only off the back of Martin and Cotchin (who I rate as the more complete player despite everyone frothing over Martin). They talk about Houli being super, but he plays a Yarran easy possession role and his two "awesome" games came against Port and Brisbane. Nahas, Grigg, King, Rance, Farmer... I'm yet to see how this group could seriously challenge. And when you still give guys like Miller and Hislop a game, you know you lack for depth.

In saying that, I rate Richmond's potential above Essendon*.

Here's a question. Is Kreuzer captain material when Judd goes? You'd have to say there are only four potential candidates:

Murphy
Gibbs
Jamieson (how old will he be?)
Kreuzer

Kreuzer seems a real quiet character. Being captain may be a bit of a burden to him.
Let him just be the best big man in the AFL. That's enough responsibility for a player.

Was that before or after he told the Club he would re-sign, only to get on a plane and have his manager do the dirty work for him?

Rough transcript - http://www.sen.com.au/audioplayer/Audio ... Grigg/2525

"40 odd games for the Blues. Carlton has a fair midfield. Was that part of the move?"

"Yeah after I met with Damien I was convinced I wanted to be a Tiger."

"Were you disappointed that the opportunities weren't there at the Blues? Would you like to be a 1 club player?"

"Grateful that the Blues gave me a chance, but it wasnt meant to be and we parted ways and I think both clubs are happy with the result".

Yep...& that also may be a reason he didn’t want to be the marquee player at GWS.

Could you think of anything worse than working for Kevin Sheedy and Mark Williams?
