With so many A graders in their midfield alone its no wonder they've won the premiership every year since 2008.

There is a word which is "disinterested". It's not the same as "uninterested". It means basically "unbiased" or more accurately "not influenced by personal interest or advantage". That's why our media bats very shallow to coin a phrase. Most of them are not just not disinterested, their bias comes through LOUD AND CLEAR.

It's why you can't take without a grain (or large bag) or salt anything out of the mouths of Brereton, Roos, Blight, Brownless, Lyon, etc. (It's even worse with Brownless and Lyon, because they pass themselves off as comedians [shudder], and then suddenly flick a switch and are "serious" commentators :garthp: ).

The number of actual disinterested commentators is small - Flannigan, Robbo, Whateley...... I'm scrounging now.....

Swap Robbo for Quayle.

In 2010, Robbo blogged that Essendon* had a better list than us.

Biased.

Grant Thomas is a gun.

Thomas sounded off on the AFLPA with his tweets.

Yeah, agree with Thomas and Quayle. I still maintain that Robbo doesn't exhibit any Essendon* bias - probably genuinely thought that about the lists, and at the time, before Russell and Walker had really taken the next step, he wasn't too far off the mark. But regardless, even omitting him, my point stands - they're few and far between.

The young kid Breust is very talented, and a good rookie pickup.....kicked 3 or 4 goals today.

This discussion was all on the back of Jonathan Browns call on SEN on Friday saying that Carlton's running game was the best he's seen in his career.

Big call, but

I am disappoint.

Can't believe we've managed to reach three pages in response to the biggest wanker to ever be part of the game.

Yes, I hate him more than I hate the Tiprat.

'Yeah, but Browny can't really see the game properly (like Derm), because he only sees the game from a limited perspective. Just like Dunstall (another key forward) who thought Jarman was the best player he'd ever seen, because he used to pinpoint the ball Dunstall's way all the time.' (Brereton defence no. 1) - as true as that may be, perhaps the players actually playing the game may in some ways have a superior perspective in some ways to those who aren't. Perhaps Browny actually spoke with his own midfielders as well.

'Yeah, but how many games a week do you actually watch? Do you watch 8 games a week?' (Brereton defence no. 2 to a Carlton caller) - perhaps I'm being unfair, and perhaps you're one of the few media exceptions, but I bet you don't watch 8 games a week. Unlike some of us absolutely footy nuts who have Foxtel (and who also happen to barrack for Carlton).

Argue your case, Dermie. Don't portray yourself as sanctimonious and superior. :banghead:

The point about players getting injured is interesting and I can see the logic connection with how deep we bat

But I think the good thing is we seem to have more grunt in our line up - Ellard, Robbo, Curnow have added a hard core to our team, and Brock I still think ha something to offer

So if we lose 1 of them we have plenty in back up + Carrots and Scotto are old school hard nuts too really

Like the fact they have brought Hoops in. I saw some pre season games this year and he was flying as a runner, so while he mightn't go into packs and centre bounces and win clearances, I believe he could easily slot onto a wing and be a good running player for us, further adding depth to the midfield - but more as an outside type, like you won't see Clint Young going and winning clearances, it's a balance

Player I really like the look of is ROK, if he can get some consistency I think he could break into the team. Is hard at it, has some dash, and is a great kick

I`ve heard him joking about how he couldn`t be bothered watching games and not being available to see games on Leach and Schwarz`s show. He`s full of it.

Der Mut hates Carlton almost as much as Essendon*. All of last year and for most of this year (except today) he has been saying Judd was on the decline ... not as good as when he was with the coasters. He can't help himself .... since David Reese-Jones oblitereated him in that Grand Final.

It's true that Derm has never taken a liking to us. He was talked about as a potential coach for us back in 98, wasn't he? From memory he said he didn't want the job as we 'didn't have the cattle' (99-01 showed that we had pretty decent cattle but anyway, Derm knows best of course).

Anyway, as a Carlton fan, you get an idea of who hates us and who doesn't. More importantly, who lets their bias and hatred get in the way of their opinion. To be fair to Mark Robinson and even Lloyd to an extent, they may hate us but they don't really let it cloud their judgement of us (actually Robbo has been strangely in love with us this year). Derm really doesn't like us, and he lets it cloud whatever judgement he might have. He's not quite in Dwayne Russell territory, but he's still a bit of a flower.

I still maintain Connolly is impartial as well. The good ones are out there, many simply flip flop with whoever is playing well at the moment, and go over the top either way of a big club playing well or poorly (hense why so many stuck the boots into us over the past decade, generates interest).

Also enjoy reading Niall and Gleeson's work in The Age. Many complain everyone hates us, but we do have a blatently biased Robert Walls on our side.

Back to the original topic, we do have a better midfield than Hawthorn, and are generally quicker. We have more guys who can do both inside and outside work, whereas they have guys who tend to be more strictly one or the other.

The sides tend to be even in some ways, obviously having Roughy and Franklin beats any other CHF/FF combo in the league, but we have a lot of mid/small forward options, which I guess they do as well. I will give them a forward line advantage (obviously nullified without Roughy)

Defence - Even at full strength I would back ours, mainly due to the emergence of Jamison. I think we generate a bit more run of out defence as well.

Rucks - Where we hold a definite and clear advantage over Hawthorn. None of their rucks are as good as either Kreuze, Hammer or Warnock.

Both sides in the current shape they are in, we would beat them next week (certainties if Buddy didn't play), but Round 22 is a long way off, we could have our own issues by then and they could of found ways around Roughy missing.

Great player, average at everything else.
