I think the move of yarran to the back line and his run coupled with Jamo's confidence and run has made Thornton less of an issue (lack of run) than in previous years, which is why Bower isn't so much of a necessity with his wonky run and handball.

I'd rather Hoops than Bower any day of the week....huge difference in class.

question for the masses. when we play collingwood who have the 2 monster forwards if jameson takes dawes who goes to cloke if bower is not fit and running, thats my onlcy concern and only thing hindering us from taking 17

I personally see Cloke as a far greater threat, so Jamieson to Cloke. As for Dawes? Well, in an ideal world we have everyone fit so that allows Henderson/Waite/Setanta (if he is in our best team and I personally don't think so) to go to him.

The only way to beat Collingwood this year if they are all fit and running? Our press has to be better than theirs and then we panic them.

I'd love to know how you could say the game has passed someone by, if they haven't played seniors all year?

what role does Houlihan play in this team now?

Lifting our team from a very good one to a premiership one

Not convinced that Houlihan is in our best 22 anymore, think the game has passed him by tbh...

...happy to be proven wrong though.

..will need a few games to get up to AFL tempo, but he's a smart player and i can't see any advancements in modern tactics that he wouldn't understand.. ..if anything, he'd be better at zoning/press vs man-on-man type footy.. ....his pinpoint passing is also an asset when it comes to slicing through a zone/press.. ..fully fit he's best 21..

Thats it 33. Wouldnt worry about matchups too much. Worry more about having enough run and discipline to make sure that we can get our structure right once we have the ball forward of centre. Of course we have to win the clearances too so more run required for that too.

Good changes for this week. Bower needs to get match fit and wont do that as a sub and at this stage thornton should not be dropped.
We got away with one running player less last week because of the opposition. THis week we will need all we can get.
I would have went for Armfield but if Houla has the run (the coaches would know) then his skills will be more than handy. Hope he lays 4 + tacles foremost.

You make some good points and as I said, I'm happy to be proven wrong. I'm thinking that he's never been the quickest player and might struggle going the other way when our press breaks down.

Hope he does get a few weeks though, unlike Bower. How the hell do you find out if a player fits into the team with just one qtr?

Is this the first time this year that Carlton has not given the sub a game the week after?

Great to see Houla back.

I worry about the talls. We have no real cover if we lose a tall during the match and that could really hurt.

I would definitely want to bring in another tall in defence next week. Who, well that could be an interesting question!

Ratts stated in his presser that they were going to bring in Hoops last week - but they were not certain about Jamo so they played Bower for insurance for Jamo

If you look at it that way Hoops was the unlucky one not to get selected in front of Bower

That would at least make sense. Otherwise it was worse than pointless bringing Bower back in. If they still see Bower in their best side (and perhaps they don't anymore), then you'd think they'd want to give him a decent chance at senior level. I would have been pretty disappointed if they didn't give Tuohy a proper chance after the Port Adelaide game. A little disappointed that they haven't done the same for Bower.

However, I'm glad that Houla is back in the team.

I think Armfield's copped that at some point.

Worthwhile change, but I hope the Swans don't try to exploit our lack of height in defence.
