I am asuming that the only point in Bower playing last week was as a backstop for Jamieson? Otherwise it was a wasted week when he should have been paying Bullants to get match fit.

what role does Houlihan play in this team now?

Welcome back Mr Ryan Houlihan you star!!!!

Inclusion of clas and pinpoint passing. Also our BOG in the Bris final.
As a 19yo he made the first to play along side Kerna, SOS, Bradley, Ratten, Kouta...they were all around when he played in the seniors.
If he was good enough to play alongside those premiership heroes, he's good enough to play next to the circa 2011 heroes too.

Good luck and go pluck a duck.

Better balance - Bower was probably 1 tall too many with Hendo, Hammer, Jamo, Thorton and Kreuz ahead of him ATM
Hoops will probably play as a sub - could put him forward back or middle if needed - a more versatile option.
Game number 196 for him - would love to see him play 200

This week just keeps getting better. :smoking:
I know Bower will come back fitter and stronger right when we need him.

Just so thrilled that Ryan gets to be a part of this, and hope he plays well enough, and injury free, right through to the finals.

Agreed

Bower is still important but you can't dump Thornton when he is in good form, we can't carry 3 tall backs and we can't make him the sub again against a decent side. Makes complete sense

Particularly when we will use Gibbs on Goodes and won't need the extra tall

I reckon we are now at least one tall shy. Only 2 tall defenders and 1 tall forward, Walker being mid-sized and Kreuzer/Hampson being the rucks. Now our defence would match up reasonably well size-wise against our forwards, but I just think our third tallest defender at 6'2'' or so is just asking for trouble, especially with no real cover for it unless you move our only tall forward in Hendo into defence, leaving us with no tall forwards or rob the forward line and ask Walker to shift back and to play above his height. A Waite or O'hAilpin (or both but that is risking too much height) would solve the problem nicely. As a matter of fact, when I now look at our options for the best 22 - and boy is that getting tough - I keep coming back to Waite at CHB despite him playing forward all year.

Fair point, but what happens when Waite returns? IMHO, I think that we have been skating on thin ice all year with our lack of KPPs in the 22. It showed horribily in Rd 1 when Waite went off injured. I know that Ratten has an emphasis on pace (and its a key strength), but i think we need another KPP, especially when none of those in the list above are slow in relative terms. To me Jamo, Bower/Thornton, Waite and Hendo plus two rucks are absolutely neccesary.

Yep, agree with the above posts. It's either Bower or Thornton and you can't drop Tbird going on current form...

Sub - Curnow or Hoops

Blues by 43 pts...

..welcome back 'hot lips'.. ....feels like it's been ages since he played.. ..and the way the modern game is played, a player with his kicking skills, and versatility to play anywhere [save kpp] means he's gonna be an asset.. ..and his experience will help too..

Ratts stated in his presser that they were going to bring in Hoops last week - but they were not certain about Jamo so they played Bower for insurance for Jamo

If you look at it that way Hoops was the unlucky one not to get selected in front of Bower

I love Houla being back. I didnt think there'd be any changes but I'm happy to be completely wrong. I hope I'm not completely wrong when I think Carlton will win comfortably.

Not convinced that Houlihan is in our best 22 anymore, think the game has passed him by tbh...

...happy to be proven wrong though.
