You're all class, and goodonya.
I thought you were one of the good guys

Good to see your passion Bondi.

I am a good supporter, and I'm proud of the club I belong to.

I wish everyone could see how good this club is. IMO it is proven. The Phoenix.
I named my youngest that name. The other son, Carlton Orlando is pretty obvious.

It is a remarkable feat for CFC to get off the ground, and be where it is today. 2002 was yesterday to me.
We were in a 10 foot hole, by our own doing, and then, absolutely buried by the AFL Commission.
The unprecedented Draft penalties they dished out to CFC were greater than the $1M fine. Stung.

I don't need to have any Carltonian go through anymore shit. I'm loving every minute of what we're dishing out now.
I also loved the year "They know we're coming campaign" was happening: Win or lose. It was fun

Guess I'm just a fan of Thornton and sick of people potting him while defending Bower because of supposed potential.

Which brings me to the next point. My dream is for the oldest mercenaries to win it this year after all they had to endure.

Starting with the oldest soldier, Houlihan 1999 (could've left us to Melb but didn't), followed by the next oldest Thornton 2002 (who could have left us for Hawks but didn't), then there's the 2003 lot who could have gone elsewhere, Waite , Simpson Carrazzo, followed by Scotland, Walker (No 2 Draft pick) and Setanta (bless his soul), and 2005-6 gave us Russell, Betts, Bower and Murphy (No 1 Draft).

There's 12 players who deserve to win a flag for our club. Note Bower and Thornton. Note they are both depth players or in form best 22. They're all good, it's all about form.

Check the stats though, our win percentage is better without Bower then with him - and that's not including this year.

I can make stats make Bower sound like the next decathlete. It's not all about stats.

If you believe every player is different, as they are, then that implies everyone may have an advantage in some part of their game over the next player eg I'd rather have Houlihan having a shot at goasl more than Judd.

Thornton and Bower bring something different to the table.

In the preseason of 2010 I thought Thornton looked to be the backline General. He had brains and beautiful on both sides, and he ended up having the year from hell. At the same time in 2011 I witnessed Bower as the backline mastere in the way he could jump, intercept, run, break lines and have a shot at goal in the drills. That was against Thornton. I saw them opposed to each other. Hands down Bower did him like a dinner.

Injury and opportunity happens. The gone and fogotten TBird arises from the Ashes (Phoenix) and gets yes his chance, Bowers spot, and we are all damn proud of what he's achieved. He got an opportunity and its his spot now. He's a beautiful mark, and midfield are making defense so much easier these days. Watch out Swans, we're gunna pluck you.

Now whose better? I don't know. Give them a chance and lets all see.

But despite wishing the best for the oldest statesmen to be in 2011 GF team, I want to make sure everyone has a chance to shine for a spot in the GF team because for us to win it, its not about Bower and TBird, they're only 1/35th of the puzzle.

This week, I reckon one of Bower or TBird will be the SUB. If that's the case they are likely to do the swap too, unless we need the height of both.

The reason I did respond in my last post is imo you could justify your nasty comment knowing if he Bower didn't play for 4 qters and we had won then you were right about him as being a liability, whether he was or wasn't. Similar to the way hotcox is adamant Austin will never play again because he is not rated by the MC. Well look at the depth, the addition of experienced defenders, his injuries etc etc etc...is hotcox right or was it a good guess. But, does that justify hotcox to take pot shots at Austin? I'm sure the reason he has few fans is because he's perceived in this way. I don't like what he says about Austin, and I've told him, but I dig the other stuff he brings to the table.

We're all different, and the same goes with our players.

They are all on an AFL list because they are damn good by nature.
They are on the list of the team which is 3rd on th AFL ladder. The top 30 are damn good AFL ready.
They're are all we've got to get us out of the Dark Ages.

How? By winning a flag.

Thanks for the classy response kk, and lets enjoy the ride because we are going to win a flag with 22 of the listed players on GF day. None of us know who they'll be, but one thing is for sure they will become idols after that. Icons of the club. And if it happens to be Bower, are you going to hate him for bringing you the cup? Austin? Houla? Doesn't matter...just give me the Cup NOW!!!

Most important to remember too that its all about the kids, and the legacy we leave them. I'm not going to make kids cry just because they don't barrack for my team, but I'm going to give them a good reason to like my team and understand why Carlton deserve to win the GF. Our kids don't need to hear abuse at the footy, and certainly not towards our own. After all how does that kind of behaviour conjour parallels with that of Club, Membership, Solidarity, Unity, Belonging? I'm talking Carlton here. I'm sure you can see it doesn't.

All good. We're all on the same side, even hottie, just love the Blues and enjoy the ride.

Lets pluck a duck this weekend.

Did you manage to read that entire essay?

i must admit , i never bother reading posts longer than a paragraph or two.

Call me disrespectful, lazy, or just plain rude.

Short and sweet and to the point does it for me.

I'm sure they contain lots of useful info.......i just prefer the myriad of short, sharp, differences of opinion on TC.

:smoking:

I have never attacked Mark Austin's character. I have only ever questioned his football ability.

If you haven't, I'm sorry, but I'm sure most posters would consider your style as being personal with Austin: say a weird obsession. A very negative campaign. Sure you must know

You are publicly slandering me right there with your baseless and thoughtless comment.

Yeah, but you aren't a player. That's a different kind of slander. This kind of one you and I can agree or disagree what we find slanderous, but the Mark Austin type slander he can't and shouldn't be able to debate your opinion of him.

Mate I dig your style, just not the way you go about it as far as Austin is concerned. Your whole campaign is a joke. You just don't see it, or you're too proud and stubborn to tone it down.

Anyway, that's enough non footy shit.

Great if Jamison plays this week, but not if he isn't going to be able to man up a WCE KPF the following week.
I expect next week we will need all talls on deck and available for selection...its horses for courses every week.
Kennedy, Cox, Nic Nat, Lynch Darling. Gunna need Jamo.

Jamison circa 2011 is irreplaceable.

I am also unsure how it is cryptic.

1. There was a long post from bondi. (seems to be trying to test how many letters the text box can take)
2. I responded calling it an essay. Read into that what you will!

3. How am I left wing?
4. Second time I've got you cheap shotting me. dane 2, hotcox 0.
EDIT
Might even be 3! I forgot your PM * PM = Private Message, leave it like that*

I'd agree with that.

Maybe someone in the MC sees it differently, or maybe all of them.

I've got time to kill, sorry about that,... waiting for an emails from some distant lands where there's lots of camels and plenty of oil, but not enough band width, and apparently its a good contract for me on another beautiful day.

Yeah, I agree lets get back to footy, and not essays. That's boring. Carlton isn't though.

I hope Jammo is fit.

Thornton tries his best, doesnt seem it somtimes but he does try . i just hope he playes super well and can stay in the side for his sake and the teams sake cos i cant forget seeing a 12 yr old kid for hours on end runnen up and down the street bouncing the footy and kicking into poles and fences and chasing the rebound, night after night after night.

Great post. A lot of us (me included) like to take pot shots at players. Puts a bit of perspective on things.

I'm just stoked that even our 'worst' talls can come in and do an excellent job. I've backed Thornton in to play a role all through the last two years and he's done that extremely well for us, despite constant derision from the fans.

It's a credit to the bloke, and I hope he gets rewarded for his efforts, whether that be at this club or another in future.

I will trust the mc on selections this week. They will know a lot more than us.

As long as we get the balance right to keep the rotations up so we can have the press working in all its glory for 120 mins we should be right.

Bower out for Armfield is my guess. Armfield (sub) and bower to get match fitness up in the ants.

Armfield did not play at al last week due to being emergency for the Sunday game, plus week befiore he was sub wasn't he? So unlikely he will be a sub again, he needs a full game.

Its simple TBird can take 3rd best tall forward and sometimes second. Most of the time he will do that sort of job nicely
but once he is isolated with a good forward he really will struggle. What i like about him is when it comes to ground most of the time he is composed and knows what to do with it.

Also really hope Jammo is fighting fit to play :fight:

Wasn't Setanta listed as ga ing a hand injury, not dropped?

Anyways Juanita, I reckon this is more than a game. When I play tug-of-war with my dog, that's a game. This is somewhere between that, and life and death.

You have to get a bit OTT about it, otherwise when we win flags you just walk away from the MCG saying 'nice win, but hey - it's only a game'.

So keep the passion coming people: no passion - no club

Setanta now named at CHF for the Bullants - so presumably fit to play. I'd have Setanta ahead of Austin every day of the week forward or back, but perhaps the MC see Austin as a better option down back, given Setanta has been playing forward?

By the by, I can't agree with footy being somewhere between tug-of-war with the dog and life and death. As a famous English coach once said (to paraphrase) "Some people treast football as a matter of life and death. I can assure you it's far more serious than that."
