One thing I've been meaning to ask - is TC's 'Heavs' paying homage to Brent Heaver?

I struggle to rationalise Heaver historically. Was his 1993 just an out of the box year - lets not scoff at 48 goals in a season - any historical analysis tells you that this is a phenomenal outcome from ANY Carlton forward. Was he just in a good era for our forward line (recogning he was pushed out in 1994 / 1995 as Pearce / Clape took hold)? Was he the victim of the Wanganeen hold & smother routine?

He was literally stuffed (as a nippy goalkicking forward) in 94 and 95 with a broken leg; and eventually faded in form thru 96; and after 64 games and 106 goals with us; left and went to Port Adelaide.......(16 games)

I thought Heaver wasnt too bad, a broken leg buggered his career up as he never seemed to reach teh same level of footy that he played before breaking it. As you pointed out, he kicked 48 goals in '93 at an average of 2 a game. The following season kicked 23 at average of 1.5 a game. When he did recover from the broken leg a few players had passed him in the pecking order. A good servant of the club.

Definitely an homage to the great man. Was my favourite player when I was a kid. Guttered when he broke his leg and even more so when he went to Port. He turned up here in Canberra a few years ago as a Captain Coach. Didn't go that well.

........and thus the great Heaver-gate scandal. Will the ACT ever recover?

Heavs was traded to Port for 2 players ....thats right TWO !!! better than the Judd deal - would have been even better if Baulkwill and Nelson could play......Actually IIRC Ben Nelson had a lovely cameo appearance in the greatest Carlton game ever (99 prelim).

Still cant believe that we got 2 players for him. Remember the crowd yelling HEEEAAAVE whenever he got the ball.

I still got a poster of him at home with the catch phrase "Heaver Fever" - it and a few others were released by the club leading up to the 1993 finals series.
