I know that you can only beat the teams that are put up each week. As excited as I am by our progress this year - be warned

Of our 8 victories only 1 has been against a top 8 side (Sydney) - We couldn't beat the other 3 top 8 sides that we have played (Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon*)

7 victories against bottom 9 sides - Richmond, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Brisbane.

We are playing great football and looking more complete as a unit, but the next month of footy will be telling. Sydney, West Coast, Richmond and Bulldogs. 2 top teams, 2 strugglers and then the big one - Carlton vs Collingwood.

I believe that we can win all four of those games and then front up for the biggest Carlton v Collingwood game in 30 years.

We will know a lot more in 2 weeks time

Hawthorn have only beaten 2 sides in the top 8 - syd- and freo
Sydney have only beaten Ess- and WC
WC have only beaten freo

and technically speaking Stkilda will end up in the 8 so really we have beaten 2

win the next four and we still would have only beaten 2 sides in the top 8

out of the last 11 games 6 are against top 8 sides if we go 3 and 3 and win the other 5 we will still finish top 4 with 16 1/2 wins

What we will know in the next 2 weeks is this: that we beat both Sydney and West Coast comfortably....

I'm happy to keep a lid on it..... but Sunday evening I just had to take the lid off a couple of dozen crownies  My wife's employer got married and was sensible enough to scedule the ceremony after the Blues game.

As for the comments about us not beating sides above us yet...... that is a sensible comment if we were sitting 8th, 9th or 10th but when you are 3rd and have come very close to beating the top sides, the comment is not too relevant. There has only been two opportunities to beat a side above us and we performed creditably.

In both the games against Collingwood and Geelong, I commented at the time that they were near full strength but we had a few of our best 22 missing.

Keeping lid on but am optimistic about our immediate future.

Geelong, Collingwood, Carlton - all pretenders! The top 3 are shot to pieces, can't beat anyone above them.

Gold Coast on the other hand, have gotten 100% of their wins against sides above them on the ladder. Smokies?

If we (at least) 3 out of the next 4, then I'll start thinking about a premiership.

- Sydney are always dangerous, but after a woeful performance against the Tigers we would be deserving favorites.
- West Coast are scary and could really be a contender in the next year or two. LeCras, Kennedy & Darling are a huge threat.
- Bulldogs aren't the team they once were, but could still cause an upset.
- Richmond are shit and we should thump em, but they can still put up a fight.

All are winnable though, and we should nail em all based on current confidence and form.

Its a fair comment to say that Carlton has had only 1 win this season that if you looked at the draw at the start of the season, you wouldnt have penciled in as a win and that is the win at SCG against Sydney.

The other 7 victories have come against sides that we had to beat if we were going to improve this year.

The 2 losses have come against opposition that even in the inner sanctum wouldnt have expected to win at the start of the season.

Good old Mike. Early year it was Roos who was more bullish about our chances, yet in the last few weeks Sheehan has tried to turn the tables on Roos, but questioning him on why he isn't as convinced as the rest of us that we're any good.

Mike had Melbourne overtaking us last year, as well as saying that Malthouse would prefer their list to coach over ours no less than 8 weeks ago...

...and he was me thinking that our resurgence was 3 and a half years into the making.

Fantastic, that means a home final against the Cats or Magpies - I would hate to travel to play one of these two teams :donk:

Does the debate on page 2 of this thread give good reason to not keep a lid on it?

I'm sure this thread started because I was hanging a bit of shit in PROS and CONS thread suggesting I was expecting to hear negativity about the Board, the Coach, The MC, Brock etc etc and most likely the next negative remark would be releated to how we view Carlton's chances in 2011, and we will be asked to keep a lid on it, reagardless of how well we are going as ateam.

In other words we will be told how to celebrate the success we are having. Some people just don't realise that you live to have as much fun as you can before you die.

Keeping a lid on it is what players do...and I don't think they've got a choice but do this or jeopardise their place in the team.
Keeping a lid on it is for those who can't cope with failure.

But for me, win or lose, I'm always a winner being a Carlton supporter, despite what I had to endure over the last decade.

I have no issues backing my statements at the beginning of the year that we are a good chance of making the GF and winning it let alone making the top 4. I backed Carlton $1000 to make the 8 this year too.....ka ching. Plus more on the abovementioned achievements.

Why shouldn't I be confident?
Why shouldn't I be cheering our success thus far in 2011?
Why shouldn't I be enjoying the success of the first half of 2011.
Why shouldn't I enjoy some banter with mates who barrack for other teams, like Collingwood, Essendon* and Geelong?
Why shouldn't I display the same level of confidence in my team as they provide me about their team.
That's what it's all about.

I am a LOUD and PROUD Carlton supporter. You aint heard nothing yet. And I'm loving it!!!

I know we are going to win a few flags in this decade. Probably starting this year.
But hey, if we don't, what am I going to do? Slash my wrists?
Nah, we'll be back next year, and I'll be saying we should 've won it, but we didn't...just as I did after the Sydney final.

If I just shut up, not enjoy our success whilst I can and the season ends not as expected, then by shutting up and keeping a lid on it would only mean that I lost a bit of enjoyment I could've had during the year. What's the good of that? I can't see it.

Blue Skies and Flags is what we're all about, and I know we're coming....this year.

You're not going to bring me down Mr Cloudy Day.
