I obviously wasn't clear enough in my thought process. I wasn't making a comment on Mclean vs Curnow in terms of worth to the team long term, versatility.

I was talking about who would have got more out of playing on the weekend, and what the club would have got in terms of player assesment. I've only watched it once, but to my view Curnow was as far off the pace this weekend as Brock was in his two games. He was trailing quite a few packs and was largely ineffective with the majority of his touches.

On that basis I think Brock would have got more out of playing. Of course Curnow longer term is the option. I just didn't really see the need to rush him back if he wasn't 100% - and on that showing I can't believe he would be 100%.

Me too; I thought Ed was pretty poor. Should have come back through the ressies IMO.

Looked to me like could have used another week off. Did not look as confident/comfortable to get stuck in physically as he normally does. The very heavy hit he copped early did not help as it seemed to really shake him up. And i do think he improved as the game went on. I get the impression this kid might be too courageous for his own good - saying he can play when he should not.

I think there is no doubt the game has passed Brock by. There is alot to admire about his determination but he seems a yard off the pace (I was a fan when he was at Melbourne) Ed Curnow is the future with Ellard - the blue collar engine room.

re Curnow v McLean

Curnow was also thrown to half back for match-up reasons, responsible for taking a smallish forward of the opposition and running off them. This was a pleasing addition to his previous roles as spare midfielder. Also a role that McLean cannot possibly play.

?

McLean played HBF quite a bit at melbourne.

Yarran or Brock off half back....hmmmmmm?
