Probably because the written contract presented may have been verbally altered and agreed to and now has to be rewriten and submitted for final aprprovals with all parties representatives and the afl?

My comment was a little tounge in cheek

but thanks for the considered response. I just want the guy locked in like us all I guess.

IMO Murph has been our best player this year (and by some margin - which says alot when there is that other bloke called Judd there). I reckon he is a good show for the Brownlow if he keeps his form up too!

Does anyone know what a 'restricted free agent' means in the new world the AFL is attempting to create? I want to know what, if anything, Carlton will get if Murph walks in a couple of years.

I was told last week that the deal was going to be annouced today. Not sure what the reason is as to why it was not annouced today

Restricted free agents have the right to move to a club of their choice subject to the current club’s right of first refusal over their services. That is, if the current club can match the offer from a rival club, the player must stay or enter the draft. The tabled offer only includes capped salary and capped ASA amounts. Applies after 8 years service and only from the next contract period (so if you are in the middle of a contract it doesn't apply just cause you've clocked up 8 years).

Compensation in the form of AFL allocated draft picks will apply to clubs with a net loss of free agents. This will be based on a formula to be determined by the AFL.
