Great second half by the blues. Port gave it everything and we didn't falter. Curnow was a different player to that preinjury. He played like walks use to after his many shoulder recos. I hope they have not brought him back to soon. I think he is a gun, but he just looked very tentative out there today. Hopefully he gained confidence from today.

If you watch the game again you'll find he got better as the game went on....his last qtr was very good...what a great pickup this guy has been....

yeah - I agree, fantastic pick-up and his last quarter was a sign of his previous form - I am just a little bit concerned that playing a person with shoulder injuries before they are ready just doesnt work. He certainly was not his kamikaze self he was pre-injury. Looked hesitant to dive on the ball and lay big tackles. He is also clearly not a player who will complain, which is admirable. Just hoping the dr's get this one right. I would rather have his shoulders 100% fit at finals times, than have him play thru the pain for the rest of the season.

Zach touhy's first bounce in AFL football - u gotta laugh - he should be an umpire if he can bounce the ball that high - "bounced" back well afterwards tho!

I somehow missed "the bounce", can someone put it up on YouTube?

Was at the game and was delighted to see the mighty blues play. Lots of good signs in the second half especially and the depth keeps comign. Apparently Kruez, Hendo, Hoops and Brock were all very good in the Reserves which is a great sign.

One thing everyone has forgot to mention in the PROS is JR's game on Gray. Robbie Gray is very highly regarded by people here in Adelaide and he has done some very good things for Port. But yesterday JR shut him out completely and still managed to get enough of the ball himself.

Before the game started i said to my brother and dad that Port have 2 dangermen, Gray and Westhoff and although the Hoff was good early he did stuff all after quarter time.

Only touch Gray got was from a ridiculous free kick against Russell in a marking contest. Almost as absurd as the Jarryd Blair decision earlier in the year.

You've got to feel happy for the likes of Carrazzo, Scotland and Thornton to be finally playing in a decent team.

I felt sorry for Thornton in the bad old days, battling away in defence against bigger opponents, having to play FB or CHB. I always thought he could be a very handy player in a good side where he didn't have to play in a key defence position.

On Curnow - from my limited look at the game I couldn't work out why Brock was dropped for him now.

He looked a mile off the pace and the few times he got it he butchered it. I'm sure he will get better, and my point is more along the lines of who would have got more out of playing yesterday. Seeing how Curnow went, my feeling is Brock would have benefited more from the run than Curnow. Who knows- maybe Curnow was completely right and just had a mental block or an off day.

Won well without Juddie being his usual dominant self.

CON:

No Brownlow votes for Juddie this week (but maybe a few for Murph!!).

I thought he was good throughout the game but some of his decisions in the first half (unselfish ones) were not winners.

He's gunna kick 10 one day.

Could not disagree more...Ed knows where to run works hard to get on his own and whilst rusty in the first half got better in the second half and really stepped up in the last....there is miles and miles between Ed and Brock....

PROS

Robbo, Yarran, Murphy and Walker...standouts.

Gibbs did some fantastic body work. He's much smarter than some give him credit for. Have a look he's one damn good player.
Setanta contested well and was always where the ball was (1st 3 shots at goal could've changed everyone's opinion of him).
Hammer did better than I thought he would in the body on body ruck contest agst Brogan (nothing to do with Brogan's sore leg)
Depth and players knocking on the door who will improve us: Kreuzer, Warnock, Henderson, Houlihan, Bower, Laidler, McLean
Withstood the Primus tactic Port players throwing themselves into our players in the first half. They went for the man to unsettle us and got their hands on the ball first.
Scotland is a damn smart player too. Loved stability TBird and Duigan bring to the backline
This team is a contender.
Won my Thursday bet for a 10 goal win.
Talk about pedal to the metal in the 2nd half. We have arrived.
Can't wait to see the look on Voss's face next week when we slaughter them at the Dome. Revenge again for 2010.

CONS

I thought we would have won that game by more than 15 goals. Truly. And should have.

Setanta will be overlooked because there's better footballers knocking on the door: Kreuzer
Hammer will be overlooked because there's better footballers knowcking on the door: Warnock
Injuries to Jamo and Waite. Jamo isn't replaceable.
Waite's forwardline work not up to scratch in this game. Maybe needs a role in the backline if Hendo and Kreuzer are ready to take on KPF roles.

This team is meeting all my expectations and predictions. I did think we would win against the Bumbers though.

I thought that passage of player when Curnow burst through that pack in the forward 50 earlier on in the game and handballed to Walker which resulted in a goal was pretty decent.

re Curnow v McLean

Curnow was also thrown to half back for match-up reasons, responsible for taking a smallish forward of the opposition and running off them. This was a pleasing addition to his previous roles as spare midfielder. Also a role that McLean cannot possibly play.
