Given the form of Kruezer, Henderson & Bower today I would expect a strong performance tomorrow.

Guys like Thornton, Hampson, Setanta need to keep performing.

It's taking a while for people to realise, but I did see someone mention we're picking a more mobile defence to counter the forward press.

So long was we get the pressure and defence right in the midfild and F50...we can play AJ at CHB.

could the ruck duo toward the end of the year possibly be Kreuz and Setanta??
Setant is in good form atm and both are very mobile and are very versatile.
Both can sit at FF/CHF and be damaging, not sure knockers can.

just a thought....

Hey I had the same thought in the Bullants thread just before :sly: :donk:

Would prefer having a dominant tap ruckman develop into a forward target and around-the-ground accumluator. Would hate to think Warnock is just a slightly better Mark Blake :| That won't cut it in 2011. We've seen glimpses of Warnock's ability outside the pure tapwork, but lacks strength and endurance. Needs to add another 10kg still...gets outmarked by midgets :banghead:

Well put.

I think our pressure is right up there all over the ground.

It was great how the boys switched on to bruising footy against the Dees in the 2nd half...and just hammered them.

Pressure on our opponents is a by product of pressure for spots in a successful team.
The names Warnock, Henderson, Houlihan, Bower, Brock are knocking on the door and Laidler is coming back soon too.
That's pressure.

Regardless of form, Setanta must be getting nervous. He is playing better footy than Walker ATM but I would think Walker is more secure.
Kreuzer and Henderson both played well yesterday from reports so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Will Kreuzer go to FF/CHF?
Will Hendo go to CHF/FF?

Waite might go back, although I think he is better up front, but where?
Walker might go back but has not been a huge success there.
Setanta might go back but I doubt it. He seems better up front.

Personally, I think Setanta will be the casualty, which will be a pity because he seems to play better with better players around him.

No room for sentiment in footy. In past years, Setanta would have been in the first group picked. I hope he stays in because he brings the X factor to the table.

nice reply Sombrero.

Right now i think big irish (as opposed to little irish, Tuohy) is doing enough to keep a spot. Is very hard at it and kicking goals.
With Setant, i feel he's better for matchups than a Warnock (when K is in the side) because it throws the opposition a curve ball, do they send their resting ruckman to follow irish? will be too mobile. If they give him a key back instead, it frees up a walker/hendo/waite. If they give him the 3rd backman, he is too big and strong.

I love his versatility and what he can add with matchups before he even touches the ball, if that makes sense

Yep it's pretty tough. All these players are better forwards than backs. I think there will be a bit of experimentation over the next 6 weeks to get the balance right, but it's a delicate balance.

In a perfect world one of Henderson and Waite would play CHB. Waite would do well but he's been marking everything along the flanks, can his role be replaced by Henderson? Not yet I would think. And Henderson hasn't played back much since arriving at Carlton.

I would expect some teething problems which may cost a couple of games initially, but need to introduce these players now and hope the side is settled and more dangerous in the lead up to finals.

laidler will come back for touhey

kroozer wll be in as soon as setanta falls away, we will need hampson or warnock as big kroooze may not ready this yesr to be numero uno ruckman

henderson and houlihan and bower will come in for thornton, ellard, armfield or robbo if they slip.cant think of anyone else that would get dropped at this stage, maybe curnow if he doesnt regain his form

bluses are coming, its great problem to have this depth

For those coming over or in Adelaide, they are training Saturday morning @ 1045, at Richmond Oval.

Richmond Oval is HERE !!

Just got home from watching the lads train.

JR was fine jogging, but looked a little bit hampered the few times he really opened it up.

HEAPS of supporters there. Easily over 500 people (I want to say maybe 1000, but I'm no good with estimating crowd figures).

All the players were great with the fans, with every single one of them spending time with the supporters signing autographs/taking photos after training.

Special mention to Ed Curnow who was kind enough to hold my 1yo son for a photo.

If you want to know what 500 looks like just go to any (other) Port game....

Had a look and can't find anything.

Cheers.

Game not being shown on FTE in Qld. It is on Foxtel, but I prefer to record it in HD which my foxtel is not.

Anyone seen and torrent sites hosting recent Blues AFL games?

PM me if you prefer not to post?

thanks

We have come across for the weekend but wondered if anyone knows whether there are facilities at the ground to watch the hawks/freo match beforehand?

My wife being a hawks supporter wants to be able to watch it and I dint want to miss the opening bounce .

Any advice?

Does that imply that Warnock doesn't get a look in?

I've been critical of Warnock (under my breath) at times this year, mainly due to a lack of marks, and his kicking for goal has been better in the past.
However, when I've had a closer look at him from replays I realise how much he does put in. He does have a go, and his palming to the midfield is better than Setanta and Hammer imo, despite Hammer getting his hand to the ball more than not.

We all pretty well know now the SUB rule has impacted everyone, and the game is almost as much a game of attrition as it is skill and talent.
The 4 ruckmen we have competing for 2 spots are all different to each other.

I'm guessing Warnock will start to peak with one more uninterupted preseason to build his strength and engine. Hopefully he starts to hold his marks then.
Surely he's worthy of a mention for one of the 2 ruck positions in the seniors: Kreuzer naturally earns the right to one of them.

All depends on Carlos form.

Carlos offers so much flexibility compared to Warnock/Hampson.

Form is the keyword for every player from this point forward, we have numerous options in so many positions, under perform against the bottom teams and your out. Great problem to have and is the reason we'll win by plenty today.

Seasons and in some cases careers on the line today - players are pushing for selection so it will be interesting
Ohalpin - has to play well with Warnock Kruez and Hendo knocking on the door
Hampson as above
thornton - bower Laidler due back any time- Austin coming into some form Daivies showing a bit
Ellard - Houlihan - Maclean performed well yesterday
Armfield must be under pressure

It will be good to see how they react they all must know the pressure is coming

It should be a real test of character for a few of them

Cant recall when we have been in this position for long long time - all looks good for the second half of the year
