Agree that it's hypocritical of Mark Robinson to decry this comment as disrespectful and not appropriate when he's often lamenting either not getting access to interview players or them giving homogenous answers when interviewed. Good on Mitch Robinson for being a straight talker and saying it as it is.

What I didn't like was the oh-so-obvious revelation that this was said internally within the club. Even if Armfield didn't back up this statement it's obvious the unusual term 'bruise-free football' was a theme within the club either leading up to or during the game.

Often when players give interviews you can work out what snippets of info they're repeating that were delivered by coaches. After the St Klda game last year Yarran said how we thought our forwards would be too quick for their defenders. I remember after we beat Collingwood in 2009, in a post-match interview Fev made the comment "they think they've got better kids coming through than us" which was so obviously mentioned by coaches as a gee up before the game. Not sure that the CFC would have liked that viewpoint being aired in public at the time!

I'm not sure that Bailey is guilty of being fixated upon this as someone else mentioned. He was probably asked the question, gave his response and this is the comment that has created the headline. They'll be fully aware that actions speak louder than words and hopefully they'll come out breathing fire against the heroic Bummers.

From Bailey's point of view, his response is probably equally an attempt to draw attention away from their performance, an external show of support to his players and an internal kick up the backside to his players.

Complete idiocy to make derogatory remarks about opposition. You never, ever give an opponent one tiny miniscule of muck,,coz sooner or later it will be thrown back in your face twofold.................i;m more concerned about short step football by some of our guys rather than bruise free football from the Dee's..............im not being alarmest. Its gone around like wildfire in the footy world about a couple of our efforts against the Dees and i can assure you some of our blokes are gonna be targeted bigtime.Robbo and Armer need to keep there traps closed.

I think Mark Robinson is a dead set hypocrite - he decries the "yeah/nah we take each week as it comes and never take an opponent lightly" answer when he interviews players - now he gets something different and honest and he goes all "holier-than-thou".

Its clear by just looking at Mark Robinson that only does he have his cake he also eats it, as well as a dozen jam donuts after every game.

Ratten said in his presser today that some of out blokes played bruise free football in the 1st half. Maybe Robbo overheard him saying that to one of the other players and thought is sounded good!

Frankly, for a club who haven't been able to beat a field of wet lettuces for 10 years, I'd of thought we'd be a bit more circumspect.

We haven't proved anything to anyone yet so even if they do play bruise free footy, we should keep our traps shut and go quietly about our business.

sooo..... Am I the only one on here who thinks robbo, army and ratts were actually talking about Carlton not playing bruise free footy in the first half, and letting Melbourne play their style of footy, which was to get the ball out through the back door, and then try and move it forward? ( yes, Tommy, I said back door)
:smoking:
naive ?

If I tell a lie and get called a liar I can't really complain.

Melbourne did play pretty soft footy on Friday night, most people seem to be of this opinion. So, therefore, what's the problem with people saying it?

In fairness they were missing quite a few players and played in a manner that reflected that. Still, soft is soft.

Dean Bailey would have been better to come out and say, "we weren't up to scratch on Friday", rather than get all hot and bothered about something that would appear to any who was at the game or watched on tele patently obvious.

Lets just make sure now that were ready to play bruising footy when we next meet them (round 20) and not let them get 1 back on us.

We wont have to wait until round twenty Surrey. You will find Yarran and Gartlett will be hit with everything but the kitchen sink as of next week and every week therafter.......................Robbo and Armer should concentrate on cementing there place in the side before they gob off at the opposition. Both are far from permanent fixtures in the side.............i am seathing. It is thoughtless shit like that opens the door to our numerous enemies who cannot wait to sieze upon a tiny morsel to feed the masses who despise us.Idiocy beyond belief.

They are going to have to catch Chris and Jeff first.

Mick - take a chill pill - we are much tougher than 2002 - 2007.

We copped all that and much more during this time no one had any sympathy or respect for us - the boot is on the other foot and we should be sticking it firmly up the arse of 16 other teams.

This isnt trash talking NBA/NFL boofheads - these are guys who didnt give the usual "yeah/nah" answer that journalists on the one hand say they are tired of but when they get something different like the truth suddenly dont know what to do with it.

The masses still hate us and despise us - but the respect that has been lacking over the past 10 years is growing.
