In 1963 againsnt I think Richmond, Bruce Williams (7) quite a good rover took a mark 20 yards out with a heavy ball with a minute or so to go & failed to make the distance. We lost by 7 points.

Funny how you remember such trivial things

Can anyoyne else remember that one :?:

I wasnt even a twinkle in the old mans eye

What about Fred Stafford's goal in the 1947 GF - now that would have been something to see

Think it was 93 at Subi Oval against West Coast, Mainwaring had a free for out on the full and was put on the impossible angle. His banana kick hit the post and we won by a point. It wasn't after the siren but it was definitely the last scoring shot of the game.

Best game I've ever been to at Subi...just ahead of the 95 game where we also won by a point ( a Dean Rice tumbled punt rolling through for a point) and the 2001 1st round v Freo where we also won by a point with SoS sealing it at the death.

From the Blueseum:

Round 3 2004 MCG v Norf

Quote:
The Blues seemed headed for a narrow victory against the Kangaroos. But a controversial out-of-bounds on the full penalty against Ryan Houlihan, with just eight seconds to go, would enable Roo Daniel Wells to goal from the resultant free kick from outside 50 metres and result in a 5 point win to his team. The ball was ruled as having struck Houlihan's heel on the full but replays were inconclusive

Robbed as usual

I was at the "Ben Dixon" match. My mate says his lasting memory of that match is the roar of the crowd when the siren went, and everyone jumping up roaring when Dixon slotted it, and looking over to me, the only one at the 'G not on my feet, saying "No, no, no, no, no....." rocking and banging m head on the seat in front of me.

That match hurt.

Also 87` v St Kilda at Princes Park, Tommy Alvin takes a great mark in front but can`t take the kick due to injury. Mil steps up to kick the winner just before the siren.

Great get Number 10. And am I right in saying Mainwaring got the kick as a free against Andy Mackay for deliberate out of bounds? Was a great game.

This thread is so depressing

Andy Phillips snap @ VFL Park v Pies mid 80's, was it the sealer or the match winner? Choke up when I think of what a premature loss he was.

that was the very late 80's I think, palmed down by sticks

86 I reckon. Yep, Phillips had talent.

The Phillips snap was Round 15 1989 against the Magpies

When Warnock took the mark, I told my mate he should feign injury, and let someone else take the kick.

My mate said Warnock couldn't miss from there.

I took no pleasure in being right.

Generally he's such a beautiful kick he should have snagged it easily

I would have been more confident if he was further out.
