Shouldn't have taken it. We should have pulled him off then and there.

Exactly what I said at the time. I was spewing there was noone smart enough to tell him not to get up cos he had a sore back or something.

Have had some time now to vent, reflect, analyse etc (having followed our great club since 1963, and started going to games since 5 yo):

- we're on the way: thought this even after (what was terrible at times) the Richmond game; can see a tougher mind-set within this group, that's been borne out in the Rich (could have lost that), Coll (couldn't sustain for more than 2 1/2 qtrs), Ess (could have lost that), Adelaide (could have lost that - they looked more polished than us for long periods that day, but we still found a way to win), Syd (have lost that in previous years so many times ), StK (their GF - Kosi plays his best game in 5 years etc, could've lost that but we still pulled it out of the fire).
- these guys are starting to get it
- more consistent tackling pressure Inside 50 and generally this year
- "We're never beaten until the siren" philosophy
- consistent team efforts, combined with improved indivs (JGarlett, Jamo, Waite, Robinson starting to play more disciplined;
- how good have Scotland, Murphy, and Simpson been, in addition to the Captain; Gibbs has done some great jobs on top-liners too)
- Curnow/Duigan/Laidler
- Warnock missing wasn't the problem (no matter how ******* frustrating!!!): (what were at times too easy) goals to Varcoe, "Chappie", and Pods (thrashed all night and scrapes one in at the death - oh, well, have seen Buzz and Johnno win games for us that way too) killed us.
- Yarran could be the next Michael Long and Gibbs the next Nathan Buckley if they can develop greater mental and physical toughness, and consistency.
- More upside than down: start kicking straighter (better tonight); Kreuzer, Bower, Henderson, Curnow to return may make things really interesting.

Cons:
- Need two KPP's (was originally one - key defender - but they had to trade JoshK. Henderson to do a Kennedy (we're maybe lacking a trad CHF to help AW, Waite, Jeff as the hit up fwds); definitely need a CHB (have been calling for this for five years - Austin, Hartlett, etc didn't work out; maybe Watson will be the one in time :smile)
- Now I see why Selwood gets the wraps: ducks and wriggles to get frees, and the umps fall for it - smart player: is how it's always been, and always will be - the fress are always based on how it looks to the white/red/green/yellow maggots, not often how it actually is.
- Essendon* above us

"Here They Come!!!" (v Collingwood; MCG few years back, Davies 3 goals in the last qtr?)
"Yeah, stick a banana up yr ****" (member of the Heatley End, to Frank Dunell of Ess, Qldr/bananabender)
"Lift! Lift! Lift!" (Carlton End v Fitzroy -Junction Oval early 80's)

The "interpretation" of holding the ball as it has become is absolutely !@#$%&.....period

Agree completely on the momentum from that free kick. 6.30 left in the quarter and we were 14 points up. Ended up going in with scores tied after that.

I've seen it again and backed up what I thought at the time, how can it be in the back when Selwood ended up on his back...he's clearly been turned in the tackle. Almost perfect tackle from Ellard....only thing was his target.

Con - Brock ain't

Contributing factor again last night was who and how we used our sub.

We are improving and definately belong in the top based on how we are playing

Our pressure and attack on the man I thought was fantastic all game

Couldn't be prouder of the boys

Cons - NONE

we are right in the mix and Geelong are the best team going around at the moment, and with a little lick we win that game. Not concerned at all. The way we are playing will stack up in finals. Never say die, pressure the man, good hard tackling, winning the hard ball.
Well done blue boys

I think the media is on to his tactic. He's such a good player otherwise, its makes it hard to criticise him.

He is a protected species.

However it is up to the imbeciles (in particular Jason Armstrong - enjoy the VFL next week) to stop paying the free kick. You can't blame Selwood for doing it if they'll pay a free. If they want to stop him doing it ping him for holding the ball. Until that happens he'll continue to do it.

It is not good for his reputation but I don't think he'd give a @#$%&! what the average supporter thinks...he's got two flags and is probably on $400K+...why go away from something that gets you results (a third of your teams free kicks - 5/15)

- Apart from the magots and Joel Selwood being a soft bitch, it was a fairly fought contest and an entertaining game.
- Judd played better AFTER he came of injured.
- Waite's best game for as long as I can remember.
- Scotland has been awesome this year and he'd be close to Judd as our best for the year

Cons

- Selwood is a knob. He is now in the Daisy Thomas class! Lost all respect for him last night.
- Warnock............ haven't been a fan of his and still am not. At one stage in the 1st qtr, he was so slow to get to the contest that Simpson had to ruck with Ottens! What a disgrace!
Doesn't do nearly enough around the grounds and can't kick for shit. All of this was based on games PRIOR to last night. Last nights game just proved what i've known all along...........he is a spud!
- Umps. Completely useless!

Just to add to that..Ellard's head was almost taken off and no free.He was very stiff last night with those 2 decisions.

The Duigan free came after the maggot umpire in that third of the field missed a blatant high tackle on Duigan a few minutes earlier when he was taking a defensive mark at the top of the square. It was the clearest free of the night....I am sure he was still fuming for not having recieved that free when he verballed the precious little princess.

Pros
- showed we can match it with the best
- our next 6 matches all look very winnable
- plenty of improvement with the likes of Kreuzer, Henderson, Bower, Lucas and Curnow all to return over the next few weeks

Cons
- enough been said already......just need to take our chances. (Remember the Cats butchered a few chances as well)

Pros: We lost by 2 points to the second best team going around.

Cons: Malthouse is a genius and has had all the pressure taken off the Pies, who are clearly the best team.....

Pros; Improvement across the board is obvious. Players belief in each other is the biggest improvement I noticed last night.

Cons; At crucial times a couple were still selective in their desire to get their hands on the ball first, thereby dictating the outcome of the contest. Instead they stood back preferring to lay a tackle on the ball winner and as a result the opponent got rid of the ball and goals were scored.

We have 3 we need to move out and 3 better options to bring in that should just about round us out a real contender (if we play with the same commitment and attitude in the future).

Regards Cazzesman

Absolutely loved the selfless efforts of Waite, Walker, and O'hAilpin with their tippy taps to advantage when they were in marking contests. Waite's punch in the last (?) while competing agains three Geelongers was stunning.

Also thought Walker was very, very smart with his decision making.

Pro:
Our forward press - one of the best in the business

Con:
Our forward press - don't get enough reward for the pressure we exert.
Leaking easy goals - we need to work on establishing a better defensive zone behind our forward half. All too often opposition sides carve us up a little too easily through the midfield, embarrassingly at times and I don't mean just last night.
