71k likes is very impressive.

Must say I have been impressed with how the club is embracing social media. Long way to go but the direction is up which is really important. I'm seeing improvements in how they are engaging fans every months lately.

The Spirit of Carlton have only just established a facebook fan page in the last month or so, still learning the ropes.

http://www.facebook.com/SOCPP

We only have 147 likes at the moment, we want a lot more obviously. Tell all your facebook mates about us. If you are on facebook just press our like button and you can keep up with all our news/tweets/everything.

Very good form by you, SoC - looks great!

I must admit I check the CFC Facebook and Twitter religiously. The Facebook is in great nick and they constantly update it. Although, I must admit, the Pies and Bombers have 120k+ likes at last check. Something to ponder...

Certainly! Something I know those at the club do know about.

The club has had very good figures in terms of website traffic compared to rivals such as Collingwood and Essendon*.

I expect that we will catch up with both over time on social media like facebook.

TC, SOC, WABlues, Carltonians, Blueseum, BF, CSC and many others are all doing there bits to help keep the Carlton online community going.

I still reckon if you add everything up, social media, official website, forums, history websites.... in terms of online content and traffic Carlton would be number one at the moment.

We have a very very active online community, we just need to transfer it more into memberships/sponsorship.

That's good to hear! I look at the amount of status Likes and comments we get vs the other clubs and we're pretty much at the top of the pile, even despite having less numbers. I think that transfer into actual member numbers/sponsors will happen in time and happen in a big way. It's a cliche but we are a sleeping giant - and actually looking at the SoC facebook description it says basically that - and there is something unique and powerful in the Spirit of Carlton. We're the best and we find a way. People may have temporarily lost faith over that unfathomably bleak period but look at where we are now. How many clubs can come storming out of the doldrums like that? Shining in light blue armour? I seriously think as an identity, as something you associate with, as something you hold dear to you,Carlton trumps all others - maybe with the exception of Collingwood.

And out of interest SoC, where do you fit in the scheme of things? "past players & officials, current players and passionate supporters"... a mixture of the above?

disagree re forums though, bomberblitz is far far far bigger than talkingcarlton, 6400 odd registered members vs 3300 odd, highest traffic ever 1500 odd users vs 300 odd

You would be a good coach! That post has fired me up!

The SoC in essence is a fundraising organisation for the club which directs funds into three main areas, facilities for the current playing group, support for past players and officials and preservation and display of the history of the club. This is made possible by a group of dedicated past players and officials. We do this by running functions, sponsorships and memberships from supporters.

The SOC is not a past player exclusive club (this is a myth we are really trying to break). Anyone who barracks for Carlton can join. When you come to our functions you will see plenty of past players, but also plenty of Carlton supporters. The whole point of it all is to get all of the Carlton family mixing in a social environment again. Supporters, past players and officials all there to support the club and chat about the club together.

Priority number one two three and four is always the Carlton Football Club. As an organisation our aim is to help and facilitate the club to improve, which means what the club says goes. The SOC is not a political organisation in any way shape or form. We are here to serve the club.

dooky, there is TC, Bigfooty, CSC and bluebaggers. These forums together are bigger than bomberblitz and the Essendon* bigfooty board combined.

The Carlton bigfooty board is twice as big as the Essendon* bf board alone.

Facebook is far better at providing info than the Website - they have done a good job and it hits a lot more people a lot more often

The Carlton Football Club today broke new ground in the online commerce space.

Carlton today became the first elite sporting body in Australia to launch an online store that operates entirely within Facebook.

With more than 70,000 fans already connected to the club via the social networking site it was a key objective for Carlton to make available an array of products where fans are spending an increasing amount of time.

“Given the amount of fans we are already connected to online, it is important to offer our supporters the ability to purchase club merchandise without ever leaving the Carlton site,” said Ian Coutts, General Manager Communications.

Carlton identified the incredible growth of social media and contracted Deloitte Digital to develop a Social Media strategy to ensure the Club was active in the space and engaging with supporters. The Club believes social media provides the best low cost tool to engage and connect with supporters all over the world.

“We recognize that Facebook is where the people are and we need to be where our supporters are. Through Facebook not only are we able to stay connected with our supporters, our supporters can connect with each other.

“We are continuing to work with Deloitte Digital to improve our social media platforms and increase our presence online.

“Introducing a shop into our Facebook page is important for Carlton and our supporters, providing an additional revenue stream while adding to the experience for our supporters,” Coutts added.

IMG Sports Technology Group acted as the application developers for Carlton, integrating it with their existing online shop and auction facilities.

Great job Blues!
