Honestly... Can we not play a team who has something to play for or prove just once!

Every team we play appears to have something to prove or a reason beyond simply winning the four points every single week.

Richmond: Prove that they're not shit, they've improved, last 2 season openers in the past.
Gold Coast: First game, the unknown, that they won't be pushed around
Collingwood: unfurling the flag
Essendon*: That their young players are better than ours, that their gameplan is better than ours etc
Adelaide: They were beaten the week before by Port, out to prove that was a one off.
Sydney: We hadn't beaten them up there for 18 years, they were coming off a bye, apparently this would disadvantage them.
St. Kilda: They were on their last chance following a string of poor performance, it was a real must win, make or break match.
Geelong: will be playing in memory of club legend Bobby Davis.

Faaaaark me.

Just once can we play a simple, unemotional game where our opponents aren't spurred on by some peripherhal concern?!

Carlton 2012: Lets remind them why they once feared the Dark.

Life's tough.

Doubt it'll make too much of an impact, they're a good team anyway.

It's when a crappy team like Kangas or Dees have something to prove that I worry.

We have our own reasons to be spurred on ie finishing in top 4 and getting sone respect. If that is not enough then we have problems. Our players need to say gee long have had their time now it's our turn.

But the upside of it all is that we've only lost one of those matches to date. That shows a maturing in the players and their skills and body size, and in the match tactics.

Or when Robert Walls comes out and gives our opponents (or a particular player) the rounds of the kitchen the week before they play us.

He gave Matthew Pavlich a serve and he kicked 8 goals against us.

Could be worse.
Could be North Melb. having to play the Lions the week Jonno comes back.

We play the Dees next week and if they get poleaxed by the Saints they'll be getting rubbished left right and centre

We also seem to cop a few games where [INSERT OPPOSITION STAR PLAYER HERE] returns from long-term injury

IIRC we played the Bulldogs the week after Ted Whitten died and we beat them easily. That was 1995 though.

It's much more satisfying to beat an opposition when they're at their most determined. That's where real respect is gained.

Would have thought we had something to prove against Sydney seeing we hadnt beaten them in Sydney for 18 years.

Pretty sure it was North Melbourne we played.

Not a bad point there.
