Last time we played them Gibbs got Chapman and Russell got Stevie J, I would be inclined to let Gibbs take Stevie J.

In the praccy Stevie J cut loose in the last when Russell limped off

Id play Gibbs on Scarlett

I think Duigan could go with Chappy

Only two changes for me

Out- thornton Curnow
In -Laidler Maclean

..Russ has SJ's measure, plus SJ's a confidence player and he won't enjoy lining up alongside Russ to start the game.. ..also, i reckon Russ would be fitter, more than capable of following him into the midfield.. ..tempting to sit the Gibblet on either chappy or selwood, but i think he'd troublke the cats far more as an attacking high leading type HFF..

If we don't win the centre clearances and round the ground ruck taps we are sunk.

Given Robbie W had nothing left by the end of the game last week and was getting pushed around pretty easy, I hope t'he MC doesn't think it will be any easier against Ottens.

He and Selwood could murder us with 30 minutes of footy to play.

dont think we have lost the hit out count all year can see no reason for that to change

Robbie had nothing left in the tank due to the enormous amount of stoppages - cant see that being the same against the cats - Ohalpin is as good a ruckmen as Hawkins

we need to convert our chances their defence looks to good for our attack if you ask me - midfield is about the same and Geelongs attack is nothing to write home about - Jamo will carve Pods up

I think you'll find there will be a LOT of stoppages.

Funny how we walloped these guys last year but still have the status of underdog. For me that is a good way to be.

Bordering on narcissism quoting myself but I just saw who actually got walloped last time we played. Everyone loves an underdog still though, don't they? OK, I'm just going to slink away quietly....

We are both playing very different football to last year.

They beat us comfortably last time we played them...

Why not ... Duigan on Varcoe?

Speed and agility. Varcoe has the simple strategy of running away from Duigan to present an option for his team mates. Better off taking Chapman.

I agree.

The first thing Varcoe would do to anyone slower than himself (most players) is to use his pace to expose the leg speed advantage.
I'd hate that to happen to Duigan because TCers would suggest Duigan's too slow for AFL, when really it was more of a bad match up by the coach.

Yep to all the above

I really like the Gibbs vs Scarlett idea. They are both around the same height too.

Huge for for Robbie W. I think he has been just okay the last two weeks. Centre square hitouts can be decisive but it is much harder to get an advantage around the ground it is so crowded. He needs to do more than get hands to the ball. He needs to take a mark and be an option - Ottens will. Good test for him.

Geelong don't have any big forwards that will worry us. Pods is strong but slow, Hawkins is ordinary. When he came in there was all this hype about him going #1 if he wasn't F/S. If Mumford had stayed at the Cats Tommy H would be in the 2s. Big test for McLean. The Cats midfield is not fast but Brock is uncommonly slow. Good effort to get back into the team (if he has) and will be a real test for him. We have been pretty good against the Cats recently. The Bye should count in our favour with them coming off a hard game. Should be a cracking atmosphere. This will really tell us where we are at. We have had some good wins but hard to gauge. Just beat the Crows and they were slaughtered by Melbourne. Just beat the Saints but the Hawks and the Dons have flogged them. Beat the Swans but they are a middling side. I think we have a top four spot staring at us and a good run after this game, so it is really important we put in a good one and lets kick more goals than points!!

The issue was raised about McLean getting exposed by Geelong's midfield due to lack of pace. When I see Geelong's midfield, speed is not something that springs to mind. They are good but they are not fast, if he gets beaten it won't be because of leg speed.

Ratts talked recently about wanting Brock to work on his spread and I noticed in the bullants/GWS game at the G Brock was definitely working on that and covered good ground.
The Geelong spread and Brocks physical ability to go with his opponent is where he'll be tested.

Carlton have a long injury list with Kruezer, Bower, Curnow, Laidler, Houlihan & Henderson all missing from the best 22.

No doubt Carrazzo will take Selwood. We need to stop his influence if we are going to be competive in this game.

Other matchups i would like to see are.

Jamison on Hawkins
Thornton on Pods
Russell on Stevie J
Duigan on Chapman
Yarran as a loose man being fed the ball from HB.

Robinson to play as a negating HF on Enright.
Ling to try and tag Judd
Murphy to go head to head with Corey
Gibbs to go head to head with Bartel
Scotland vs Kelly

Apologies if this has been posted already, this week's injury list according to CFC website-

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/injury/tabi ... fault.aspx

Austin, Kreuzer, Laidler, Mitchell & White all a chance to play this weekend.

Out of that lot, Laidler's the only one I'd expect to come straight in.

FWIW - Bower listed as 1 week away from resuming....

Against the Cats I think it will be:

In: Brock, Laidler
Out: Curnow (inj), AJ

Good to see Mitchell close to resuming. If his shoulders can hang together, I'm really looking forward to watching him develop.

Was told Twomey played on him in last qtr and he nailed 3 on him, wouldn't read too much into it.

Am i the only one who doesn't have Brock McLean in the starting line-up this week? Don't have to replace like-for-like in my book.
