I think the key this week is how to limit Taylor/Scarlett. They have been playing Lonergan as the #1 stopper while Taylor and Scarlett are freed up. If Lonergan goes to Waite then who is going to make the other two accountable? For this reason I think Hampson AND Henderson have to be considered. People can point to Setanta but really even though he is 200cm tall he doesn't play like a tall forward. I wish Henderson was in better form given he troubled Scarlett last year (second game). I would bring Hampson in because Ottens will wear down Warnock, plus then we can push either of them forward to make Taylor/Scarlett accountable.

effes, i would look to play Walker on Scarlett and Carlos on Taylor and let Eddie and Jeffy do their magic.

Midfielders MUST kick goals this week.

If this game was at the G i'd be so much more confident. I hate the way we play at Etihad.

I doubt Ling will play. Could be wrong, but I doubt it!

Anyway,

Out:- Thornton, Curnow
In:- McLean (unfortunatly) and one of Watson, Laidler or Henderson.

But, even if Ling does play and regardless of playing at Etihad and even after that insipid performence against the Saints - AND EVEN after the bye this week............... I'm still tipping the Blues this week.
We have been playing like crap latley, but we have belief! I love that!

Why not play Yarran on Chappy and Duigan on Varcoe? Chappy has been down on form and forcing him to account for an attacking defender might throw his mojo right out the window. As long as Yarran does the disciplined things first, his run might really expose Chapman's ageing legs. Duigan should be fine to handle Varcoe, he was great in the air against the Saints. Come to think of it, he was pretty good in general.

Funny how we walloped these guys last year but still have the status of underdog. For me that is a good way to be.

Hope we've practising our goal kicking!

Good luck lads.

Geelong at Docklands. Brings back some memories.

Wiggins' fingers are still stinging 9 years later.

So which Geelong midfielder will expose McLean for leg speed?

Which won't? ... not sure it matters that much. He's not an outside player. More important thing for him is to keep running, make more contests and get the ball out. Quick mind rather than quick feet. I wouldn't say he's any slower than Ling.

Speed and agility. Varcoe has the simple strategy of running away from Duigan to present an option for his team mates. Better off taking Chapman.

Our pace in the F50 is what troubled them last year, and is our best hope again. Quick supply, ball to ground, run like the clappers. Forward pressure is another key. If we allow the Cats time to rebound they'll destroy us, Milburn, Enright, Hunt, Scarlett and Taylor are all great users of the ball from the back half.

Up front the Cats are underrated. They may not have a 'star' tall forward, but Pods, Hawkins (who is a prime candidate for the "Who will we play into form this week?" nomination) and with Mooney to come back are all solid. But like us their smalls are the danger. Chappy, SJ, Varcoe are all experts at getting through traffic, and if you throw Ling (if he plays) and Bartel into the mix, it's a potent mosquito fleet of sorts.

As always it'll come down to the midfield. Curnow will be a big out, and a must for McLean/Ellard to take the next step, because if Selwood has a big game we're screwed. We can't have Juddy at the bottom of all the packs, we need him in space. If we don't win in the middle, we don't win at all (unless their goalkicking is more diabolical than ours).

Wonder if Russell will get the job on SJ this time as he is playing more in the midfield

They did the job on us in the 2nd game towards the end of the year.

Yeh, not to mention the fact Geelong made the preliminary final last year and are unbeaten this year so far...

Be interesting to see how both teams go with accuracy this week.

The issue was raised about McLean getting exposed by Geelong's midfield due to lack of pace. When I see Geelong's midfield, speed is not something that springs to mind. They are good but they are not fast, if he gets beaten it won't be because of leg speed.

wojinski pretty slick - but he could be in trouble
Stevie J has been playing as a mid and he is no slouch

But who cares we will be a better side when Brocky plays

Wojinski is slick but he does not play midfield. Stevie J has spells between midfield and forward and he chopped us up in the practice match at Visy Park earlier this year.
Last time we played them Gibbs got Chapman and Russell got Stevie J, I would be inclined to let Gibbs take Stevie J.
