The bye was perfect timing for us after last week as we were physically spent.

We have to minimize Selwoods influence - crucial to not let him have space to work

No, better the Cats won so we don't have to hear about how unbeatable Collingwood is for the rest of the year.

All eyes will be firmly on Carlton next week.

Maybe. Didn't fare too well on him in the pre-season but Selwood was flying at that point, while Gibbs looked short of a gallop.

Cats have held on to win some close games this year.
Rd 1 - Saints 1 point
Rd 2 - Freo 11 points
Rd 8 - Pies 3 points

And the Blues have held on in some close games recently....

I'm tipping a draw......

If we're hard at the stoppages and win a good share of the contested ball I'm not really worried about a lot of those names. Chapman & Selwood need attention because they'll get forward at exactly the right time, while Johnson, Stokes & Varcoe are only as good as those who make them accountable for their play.

Scarlett is a slightly different beast in that he'll help generate play from defence, but he's no good if no one can find him on the rebound.

That's pretty much the trick to beating any decent side: win the ball in dispute more, be responsible at the back and make them accountable for you at both ends of the ground. Do that all day and any side will give you enough opportunities to win a football game.

I only watched here and there of the game, but I'm wondering did Geelong try short kicks - trying to keep possession - taking their time - trying to work their way around the forward press ie. as we tried against Collingwood?

We will win. Then the formlines wil be unreadable and the scibes will roundly declare this the closest most exciting season in donkey's year and the sub/interchange rule a Demetriou masterstroke.

I'm curious as to why there's no excitement or discussion around Houlihan's return from injury.

He was our best defensive forward last year and how much did we miss him in the Swans final?

Will he come straight in when fit and who would he replace?

They did, but they mixed it up nicely going long frequently.

Thought this helped to isolate filth players in the zone as it spread a bit because of confusion as to which way the cats would attack.

Win Friday night and we sit above Collingwood in 2nd spot (if only for a couple of days). I like that prospect :smoking:
