Cheap shot from Montagna won't get cited
Warnock smashed

Simply wrong. Massive win in the hit outs, but just didn't take enough marks. Don't listen to Lloyd, apparently St Nick had the better of Jammo as well. :donk:

39 hitouts to 21? Warnock was also smacked over the head and had a cut opened up, which can't help your balance.

Judd's clanger in the last...I nearly threw up.

The commentators missed it, and the crowd wouldn't have been able to see but Judd was kicking to a spot, and two of our blokes were idiotically running into the congestion instead of taking his cue and pushing into the space. Good kick, bad read.

Jimmae, when it's heat of the moment, game on the line, without the benefit of analyising the replay, I'm so not thinking that way!

I'm with Jim. Was crystal clear on the telly what Judd was intending. The two forwards ran away from the ball carrier. Bit silly of them really. I know one was Carlos. Can't remember the other.

Pro's.
When Robbo smashed through the Saints player who thought it might be a good idea to shepard in our forward line, second quarter?. Front on pole axe.

Schnieder was it?

- Very hard fought win against a team that does well against us generally and a team that were desperate for a win
- Won a close one
- Yarran, this bloke is silk.... great game
- Duigan, gutsy, tough and crucial marks in defence when needed
- Jamo, i thought he done well against Reiwoldt, especially early
- Walkers game winning goal under that pressure from a tough angle and wrong side for a right footer... well done Walks
- Gibbs job on Goddard, excellent, and a couple of goals too
- Ohailpins effort was good, gives his all and bobbed up in some critical contests
- Top 3 and a bye this week for the boys to rest up
- Betts pick up and left foot snap was superb... one of the best crumbing goals ive seen, he picked up that ball at lightning pace

CONS

- Goal kicking again.... we are escaping with wins but those misses will cost us eventually unless we start nailing them
- Curnow's injury, get back soon young fella
- Lack of a big defender to stop massive blokes like Kosi
- Need a big focal point up forward for that bail out kick deep

Pros:

Great to be back in Melbourne and at the footy.
A really gutsy win against a team who to be honest drag you into an ugly style of play.
Yarran. Will be a very elite player....was thrilled when we drafted him and he is already showing us why.
Our pressure and desperation right throughout was fantastic.

Cons:

Our forward setups are amateur and we really don't know what to do when moving the ball inside 50. Barker needs to start making progress in this area. Kruezer alone will not rectify this.
This is our weakest link at the moment and once we improve our fwd setups the rapid improvement that will follow will be something to watch.

When I think of 2002 onwards - which I try not to - the three teams that give me nightmares are Adelaide, Sydney and St Kilda.

We had no idea how to combat the way these three teams played football.

Yet we've gone 3 from 3 with each of those sides implementing their 'brand' at 100%. Adelaide with 18 in the half at the Dome, Sydney in a contested slog fest on the postage stamp, and 'Saints Footy' at the venue which was once their fortress.

12 months ago we lost games to the Hawks when they were spluttering and the Kangas when they were....well the Kangas...simply because they were able to bully, bulk, intimidate and get into our fragile heads.

No more is that the case.

This is the post of the thread.
We're practically unrecognizable from last year, and it comes down to more than just a few (inspired) personnel changes.
It's about character, and I think no one exemplifies this more than Duigan.
We can all appreciate that he brings more to the table than a handful of marks and kicks and other stats that Ratts can reel off at press conferences. He brings an attitude and a desire for physicality and a real contest, and its contagious.
Never been prouder of my club (I was barely 5 in '95).

If we are winning, the jumper colour doesn't fuss me that much.
I love our navy blue jumper but 3 games a year isn't a big deal.

Agree - I'd love to know how the players felt about the jumper - I reckon it would have been quite easy to spot teammates in the congestion with that jumper.

I think Jamo and NR broke even over the night, Jamo first half, NR the 2nd half. NR's constant running after half time really tested Jamo and he was huffing and puffing to stay in touch, it was quite obvious and the fatigue caused Jamo to make a few mistakes, too. An elite runner NR, no doubt.

Plenty other Blues slowed down after half time, noticeably Murph and Warnock. The bye can't come quick enough for the lads, timing is perfect.

Thornton's 10 metre in-baord pass to Yarran in the dying seconds. Totally shirked any decision making responsibility and lumped the pressure on to his teammate.

We had three players pumped up in the media this week - Jamo, Yarran and Judd.
And they each delivered rather than crumbled under expectations. Sure it wasn't Judd's best game but he was forced to run with St Kilda players attached to him like anchors, and Jamo and Yazz performed under the spotlight - big-time.

Duigan - what a find this guy is.

Walker - universally pilloried for his foot skills in seasons past but the bloke has got some set shot on him these days.

Yarran - I just laugh out loud when I see him run with the ball and treat opposition players like witches hats. He is just such a joy to watch.

CONS
Our decision-making in the forward line is ridiculous at times - if you take a mark 50 out or less, go back and kick it - stop stuffing around!

Waite-bashing - okay he can be a bit of a tool at times but he was fantastic last night I thought. He is always competing at 100%, he takes contested marks and never shirks the issue.

We're Carlton and the Aints are nothings.
Goddard got shown why he should never turn his back on old Dark Navy Blue
One game closer to Milne's retirement.

Well done Ratten, MC and support staff. You've turned these kids into men and they are fit to keep up with any opponent.
The Carlton spirit to never say die and they shirked no physical contest. We are hard at it. Win from behind...again.
Gut running...watching Jamo and Duigan heave up and yet still chose to go on with it.
Up yours to those TCers who doubted Duigan in the preseason. He's a star in the making. Mature, tough, fearless and good skills.
Judd leading the kids to war at the 1/4 time break...and the kids didn't shy away from the clash. All for one and one for all.
We won without Judd starring.
The indigenous players in Blue: Garlett Yarran Betts and Walker
Setanta was fantastic. I was wrong wanting Hammer instead. Setanta I thought more effective than Warnock.
Jamo and Yarran are definetely in AA form. Yarran was a clone of McLeod last night. (where's the Rich fans now?)
We were tired going into this game, and we gave it our all and got the 4 points; that's what counts right now.
Just when I was criticising Robinson for a lack of pace for AFL he turns up and helps get us over the line with G & D. He's special.
We are making mistakes but we are learning not to make them again. We are a growing force. I still believe that the GF is our destiny in 2011.
We won without our secret weapons still in the lab...Kreuzer, Houlihan, Bower, Lucas and Henderson....maybe even McLean and Tuohy.

CONS

1 minute to go and we're in front. TBird has the kick on the FB line. Setanta 25 metres ahead of him and free. TBird totally ignores him and kicks to a contest. Piss off with that attitude TBird and leave your dirty laundry at home.

Composure in the forwardline

Waite tried to trip a Saints player....Come on Waitey...grow up.

The whole Curnow saga.

Gibbs' kicking for goal is inexcusable.

Warnock around the ground has no presence. Looked like a weakling out there (I know he won the HO's)

The baby blue jumpers..yuck (I guess you couldn't miss us on TV)

QUESTION

Is Reiwoldt's kicking problems due him to not growing up with the game?
If so, maybe Setanta or Tuohy may give him some help in this area.

Clearly their 3 qt time chat annoyed TBird enough that he felt the need to jeopardise the game by being cute.

Back to the ressies with that attitude and STAY THERE.
