That was a ridiculous decision by the umpire.

Pros

Goddard has finally learned what it means to play for Carlton.

He should have a long hard think about his future now.

Saints are done, free agency is around the corner and he know where is heart lies.

As the saying goes, you lie down with the dogs, you wake up with the flees.

Goddard has the character, needs to move on before its too late. Maybe chat to Williams.

Now he knows the difference between St. Kilda and Carlton.

Character and will power, we are the Navy Blues.

Yep but I think he went moved off the line looking to chip on his left to someone free in the pocket (which looked on), then pulled out & was rushed when play on was called.

Bad call by the ump (not nearly their worst for the night, they were shocking), however if Simmo had have gone back to take the shot without looking for another option, it wouldn't have been called play on.

This shit has gotta stop!

Even the mighty collingwood has let teams back into games in nearly every game - richmond, Essendon*, dogs all dominated for periods of a game against them.

Pros
They were playing for their season and played tough dirty footy
We took it and still won

Cons
We need some genuine key position strength to win a final. We could be vulnerable against Hawthorn and Freo. Hendo Kreuz?
I would much rather we played Thouey, Mcinnes, Watson, Lucas instead of Joseph, Thornton, Ellard

You were going well until you included Ellard

pros

1) Ratts and the coaching team for getting the boys to 5.5 out of 7 going into the bye

2) a bunch of young blokes have grown into men

And you know what they did when this happened?
Richmond - 9 goal last quarter
Essendon* - 6 goal last quarter (last 5, IIRC)
Dogs - 8 goal last quarter

That's the difference. They finish teams off and destroy them, we don't. It's a hallmark of the Carlton of old, and is what you have to do to be a contender. It's the next step we have to take in our journey.

Pros:

Great win

Cons:

Putting Ed Curnow back on the ground was dangerous and stupid. Very concerning that we have people making decisions that decided on putting him back on the ground

Absolutely! Dumbest thing I have seen in a long time. What the hell were they thinking?!

And another thing - Waite's mark in the dying seconds, where the St Kilda player took forever to give the ball back.

a) Should have been 50.

b) Well done to the quick thinking teammate who went and got it for him (Carrots?)

The ST K player is under no obligation to pick the ball up from the ground and return it. If he had possession yes, but he was foxing to stop Carlton players from picking it up. In hindsight for him and the team, he would have been better up running back to try to fill the 2 massive holes that our boys marked in.

Pro's
- The coaching staff, who have finally put some structure down back which has stopped the soft goals!
- The recruiting staff who have found some talented role players for specific weaknesses in the past couple of seasons.
- Chris Judd is teaching mental toughness and gut running (how many up and unders did you see!).
- Ratts seems more comfortable this season, and he clearly has a better support crew who are bringing better tactical thinking.
- Get to find out where we are at in Round 9 v Geelong.

Con's
- Still a work in progress, not sure we can bridge the gap by September, but Hawthorn did it a couple of years ago so you never know!
- When is Thornton ever going to buy into the concept of team!

PROS:
- Jamison on the German dick exposer
- Gibbs on Goddard

CONS:
- Stephen Milne's overly aggressive goal celebrations (pathetic little angry ant)
- Kicking for goal almost costing us again (8 more shots for just a 3 point win)

When I think of 2002 onwards - which I try not to - the three teams that give me nightmares are Adelaide, Sydney and St Kilda.

We had no idea how to combat the way these three teams played football.

Yet we've gone 3 from 3 with each of those sides implementing their 'brand' at 100%. Adelaide with 18 in the half at the Dome, Sydney in a contested slog fest on the postage stamp, and 'Saints Footy' at the venue which was once their fortress.

12 months ago we lost games to the Hawks when they were spluttering and the Kangas when they were....well the Kangas...simply because they were able to bully, bulk, intimidate and get into our fragile heads.

No more is that the case.

The boys are finally carrying themselves in a manner that screams 'We are a top 4 side.'

I loved the aggression last night.
