Who, in our forward line, could Steven 'Look at my Sticky Outy Strut Bottom' Baker possibly play on?

Really hope Jeffy G has another run down the wing like last year. Not sure if anyone else remembers him doing it but it was one of the highlights of the season for me.

Hope Yarran is 100% fit with no chance at all of another twinge. He makes that backline sing!

I'm classing this as a danger game after our slog last week. The longer break helps but I'm just a tad nervous.
Can anyone tell me if we won our last game in that light blue jumper? Do we think it matters or would it mean stuff all to the players?

I don't think we've ever played in that horrid light blue jumper before.

Garlett was mentioned by Lyon as being pretty much the best small forward in the comp. I know he was trying to psych him out, but it's pretty close to the truth IMO. He still seems underrated outside of Carlton. His game last week drifting up the ground against Sydney was very good I thought, especially for his assists in the 3rd to get us back into it. A little cute with his disposal but his ball handling was sublime at times in the wet. He runs like the wind, can compete in the air when needed, handles himself in traffic, has superb skills, kicks goals, chases and tackles, wins matches - seriously, you can have your Cyril Rioli. I love this guy.

We need to come with the same mindset that we've had this year and we'll be too good for the Saints. Would love to give them a hiding, we owe them a few.

while I'd like to give them a flogging too I think if you look at the ledgers we'd be a wee bit in front on the floggings.

Must have my wires crossed somewhere. Was sure we had. Was it an M&M sponsored game or something for when the blue M&M's came out?

They may give the dirty bastard a negative role on Yarran.

I have such a bad feeling about this game. Hoping it's just because it's a long break.

Would suggest that both Laidler & White may not get up.....

Lachie would have to have twinged something surely, otherwise why pick him as an emergency ?

Not a big fan of Thornton...as a defender anyway but in this case he would be a better in than Hendo on form....and he offers versatilty if required....

Next year it won't be on FTA.

Yes it would. If it's a Ch 10 game this year, it will be a Ch 10/Ch7 game next year. Ch10 only have one game on Saturday this weekend. This game effectively replaces the Ch10 Saturday night game (No Mother's Day twilight game this year).

Anyway, all that aside, I feel a lot better about Henderson being removed from the 25 and Thornton coming in. If Henderson hasn't significantly improved from where he was at vs Essendon*, then he shouldn't be within 10 miles of the senior team. I do accept that some players don't respond well to the VFL and need senior footy to get touch, but at least show a level of ability to compete and get to contests. If he's not there, then he shouldn't be getting a game.

By all reports Thornton has played very well in a new role at the Bullants, and was counted unlucky by many here when he was dropped a few weeks ago. I think he offers options at both ends of the ground. I'd like Watson to get first call up, but having Thornton there as well is a better Plan B than Lachie.

In some ways this is a bigger test for our group than last week. We've seen before with this group that they've had an ability to get up for the big games. How many times have we 'turned the corner'? This fixture last year perhaps?

For a developing team, I think THIS is the sort of game where they show maturity. St Kilda are hurting, they've had their names dragged through the mud again this week, they're effectively playing for their season, and everyone is tipping Carlton. Can we be more desperate than them? can we keep our foot on their throats if we get a jump and things look easy at 1/4 time (Hello Adelaide)? I think the boys have a chance to answer as many questions this week as they did last week.

I hope - and think - they're up to it. Time to show us all they're not only capable of producing a supreme performance, but that are capable of sustaining it.

Carlton by 37 points.

Thornton's days as a defender are long gone but he has done very well playing on the tip rat in past games.

Still think we should see if there's any benefit with him as a forward before Hendo and Kruze are back to full fitness, before we discard him completely...

I was under the impression Monday night is being scrapped, with Saturday & Sunday twilight coming in permanently. That would be the option for this game, leaving it on Foxtel.

Ah! I don't think they've locked it in for every week. Most weeks it will be as you said, but they would still throw the odd Monday/Thursday out there. I could be wrong though.
