The Hun translator has been on the blink for a few weeks but it seems it is now back in working order with this article in today's paper about Fev's new flame:

A 1 in 2 strike rate is in excess of what is expected of the frauds known as footy journos

In what must surely rank as one of the greater comebacks in history, Essendon* today stamped themselves as a genuine premiership contender, and James Hird the Messiah we all hoped he could be, salvaging a draw from a potentially disastrous thrashing.

Coming up against a fresh Carlton side, who's games so far have come against Richmond, Gold Coast and a Collingwood team that wasn't trying, it was always going to be a tough ask for the courageous Bombers.

Behind by 3 goals in the first quarter, and seemingly out of the context, the Bombers, tired from 3 bruising encounters to start the season, had to draw on new reserves of courage and fortitude to fight back against a team that fancies themselves top-4 material.

Whatever James told them at 1/4 time obviously worked, as the Bombers rallied, applying constant pressure on the Carlton defense to score 4-7, 5 behinds being rushed by a Carlton defense under siege, again calling into question the new deliberate rushed behind rule.

Some contentious umpiring decisions kept Carlton ahead, particularly two instances where Kade Simpson and Jeff Garlett, fell on their Bomber opponents right in front of the umpire. Both incidents are sure to draw attention from the Match Review Panel.

Both players, no doubt due to disciplinary action from under-fire coach Brett Ratten, warmed the bench for the remainder of the match, with both forced to use crutches as part of Carlton's unorthodox punishment methods that could come under scrutiny by the AFLPA.

Ratten's cruel and unusual punishment left Carlton with two players less on the bench, however with the new sub rule the advantage to the Bombers was only one player, and given both players were ineffectual to that point they probably were better without them there.

With so much against them, the Bombers could've faltered. But Hird's words and message is undeniable, and would've had all of the 70,000 on hand, including millions on television, inspired to be better people.

The result showed that the Bombers are a genuine threat to take out the AFL Premiership this year, of this no-one can deny. As for the Blues, their team of number 1 picks and "VISY Ambassador" Chris Judd must wonder what they must do to achieve Stephen Kernahan's boast that his club would win 2 flags in the next 5 years.

Based on yesterday's effort, the Bombers have already surpassed them, and Carlton are arseholes.

Bryce Gibbs blanketed Adam Goodes and Andrew Jamison was immense, particularly in the first half. Marc Murphy fought off Craig Bird to have an influence.

Yes Andrew played a great game.

SOME PERSPECTIVE, PLEASE

GREAT win by Carlton, but the reaction from some experts was a little over the top.

The Blues should be beating Sydney, regardless of where it is, if they want to improve and win at least one final.

As solid as the Swans are, they are no super-side. If Adam Goodes is down, they lack match-winners.

Yes, it had been a long time between drinks, but you'd swear the Blues had beaten West Coast circa 2006 at Subiaco such was the carry on from some supporters.

Sydney had won two games going into the Friday night clash - and were down in the last term of both.

The improvement in the Blues is obvious, particularly in the back half, but they should quickly move in in search of bigger scalps.

The Swans beat the bravest team in history in a grindfest, they beat the Eagles on their own dungheap.

The conditions suited their nuggety on-ballers and forwards far more than ours.

um lets see

- 6 day break after 2 consecutive close games that were surely as mentally exhausting as they were physically
- played in the rain at the scg where sydney had only lost twice (geelong and freo both top 4 sides) since rd 1 2010
- sydney coming off extended break and played in identical conditions v geelong the round before
- sydney had only lost to an undefeated geelong
- we hadnt beaten sydney there since 1993
- yarran kreuzer bower houlihan and maybe henderson missing from our best 22

hows that for perspective you @#$%&! moron

If we beat the Saints the comments will be 'they only beat an out of form team'. And if we also manage to beat Geelong after our bye, the general consensus from the HS will be 'Geelog were due for a loss'.

Another quote from this article: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/d ... 6047742276

Last time I checked, a goal was worth just that - six points - regardless of rain, wet, hail, snow or anything else. If we're talking umpiring decisions, there were plenty of bad ones for both sides to choose from on Friday night. Mark Stevens, perhaps you were watching the wedding a little too closely to notice, but Carlton ALREADY had plenty of momentum BEFORE that goal....

Quote:
CUT THE NONSENSE
HAVE heard plenty of commentators talking about the interchange controversy at the SCG, with most declaring the AFL would be relieved the Blues won by more than a goal.

Such talk is rubbish. If it was a stuff up, it should have major ramifications for the officials - regardless of the end margin.

How do you measure momentum? A goal to the Blues at that stage of the third term was worth a couple in the wet. Mentally, it was a massive blow to the Swans.

The fact the Swans lost by more than a goal should do nothing to take the heat off the AFL types prowling the boundary.

It had a MASSIVE impact on the result.

Considering the context of the time I reckon we must have done damn well in this game then...

"They would have won if Jack hadn't rolled his ankle and freed up Judd from a tight tag".

We've been hearing that since their tagger rolled his ankle.

A shame Judd smashed Jack in the finals last year and he was dragged from that contest.
