PROS

We won despite how terrible we were.
We have come back from losing positions in 3 matches so far - that fight and ability to did deep when it counts will count in our favour later in the season.
Walker - he played well and finally managed to pull down one of those hangers!

CONS
Kicking for goal. Something like 8 consecutive behinds - kick half of those and its goodnight.
It was just a really flat night - general ineptness and poor efforts all round - the disposal was shocking and our captain's was up there with ther worst of it.
The lack of contested marking around the ground. We more often than not lose the 50/50s, even when in front.

Pros.

Won. Otherwise nothing. Usual good players fortunately.

Cons.

Ratten giving usual excuses. Why doesn't he come out and say his team was disgraceful. Sure we had more scoring opportunities, inside 50s etc but the opposition lost to Port last week! They should be flogged on the track this week.

Worst game from Gibbs I have seen and I have seen most of them. He would not get a game with Colonwood simply for lack of endeavour.

And Betts. Where do you start?

Who was minding Stiffy? Geez ..

Jamison developing his game to be more than a dour stopper
Plan A. We rocked early when we had plan A going and it wasn;t being defended.

Cons:
Poor field kicking.
Betts
Carazzo (am I allowed to say that without getting banned/warned?)
Plan B (it was crap or non-existant)
Gibbs - disgraceful effort.

Stiffy was minding Garlett/Betts, but did the damage the other way. Interesting no forward tag on Fletcher last week after it worked so well last year, and no forward tag on Johncock after Lewis, Crowley and Surjan have all done the job on him in the first 3 rounds.

I think it is time to drop Gibbs back to the 2's and see if he responds then. He can stay there until he learns he is not untouchable and until he stops prancing around the field looking for easy possessions.

Gibbs seems disinterested, reckon he is sick of being given defensive roles
Either way it is not god enough

Walker superb, why Ratten had him as a Sub last week is beyond me
Walker off and Hammer and Hendo stinking the fwdline up was unacceptable by Ratts and the MC
Hopefully he now realises Tex is a crucial part of the fwdline

Robbo might need a spell, energy levels down last 2 weeks

Exactly. For the opposition's most creative back surely you put a shut down forward.

Isn't that why Lappin went at the end of last year because he was not up to the job of forward coach? And we went out and got Barker, hmmmm.

Pros

4 points in the bank
Defence stood up led beuatifully by Jamison
Walker was very important esp that last goal of waites
Duigan
Ellard and Joseph made great cameos in the last

Cons

Betts and Garlett provided little pressure on Johncock et al running out
What to do with hampson. Can't drop him but he's a liability
Gibbs was off tonight
Umpiring was bewildering at times, but the Giesch will come out and say they were correct

Both Garlett and Betts with 7 tackles each, Garlett especially was crucial in that pocket in the last term, always pretty confident that he will wrap them up.
Betts tackle on Johncock and Garlett scooping it up to snap on the left early in the third is the sort of thing we need to see these two doing more of.

Pros:

Ellard was terrific for his first game of season
Judd was everywhere despite some clangers
Murphy had plenty of it
Curnow continues to impress
Walker as i predicted stood up and was Carlton's only winning forward on the night
Jamison was great at full back
Yarran was good until he got injured

Cons:

Hampson - Spud who should be dropped
White - Not good enough
Gibbs - Didnt work hard enough tonight
Robinson - Would not get a game at anyother AFL club.

Disposal is shocking, decision making is woeful and he is one of the slowest midfielders going around. Mitch Robinson would not be getting a game at anyother AFL club right now.

When is anyone going to give Laidler some credit? Very underrated player. Uses it well, rarely beaten one-on-one and reads the play well. What I like most about him is his discipline. NEVER gives away free kicks, something Bower needs to do. He and Duigan have improved our defence massively and freed up Jamo. He now has the support and is flourishing. Forward line is a bit thin but that will change with an in-form Hendo and Krooz returning.

+1
i agree with this 100%.just needs to put on a bit more size.

Mitch needs to keep playing seniors, he lifts the team with his effort and he will continue to improve. Not every player is a super star. hes a good blue collar worker.
anyother is not a word.

Dont make excuses for him or try to pass the blame to someone else.

Needs be given a job each week until he gets his confidence back IMO. Like Kouta in 98'.

pros

loved ellards game.
yarran is a star.
jeffreys run through the middle.
not too long till kreuzer is back.
walker took his mark.
judd getting alot of touches.
laidler was a great pick up.
warnock showing jacobs how its done at the first bounce.
i'd like to see aj tried as a small forward for a few weeks, that rotates through the midfield.

cons

carazzo - ive always been supportive but he does the wrong things too much
i dont know why lucas isn't playing...
gibbs - something must be wrong
murphy - good stats, not so sure about his effectiveness last night.
judds kicking - few clangers last night
we needed one more tall defender last night... too bad henderson isn[t firing so waite could go back, or bower didnt keep injuring himself.
we need a pack crashing forward just to bring the ball to ground

Pros

Murphy, Curnow, Ellard working so hard to impose themselves on the contest

Walker

Defence in general, they only really fell over when Adelaide cut us up through the middle and the delivery was terrific into Knights and Tippett. Whent hey had a chance at the contest they battled well. Full credit.

Yarran - let's hope he's ok. We really need his clean use. He was on fire before he tightened up. Great move by the MC. Give them credit.

Can't fault the effort level of the team - led every key stat I could see.

Cons

Gibbs. That was a truly pathetic effort from him last night. Can you drop him? I'm not sure, but if it was anyone else I think the decision would be made.

Waite - what is with him and his marking attempts? Someone needs to tell him to just STICK OUT THE DUKES. He contorts himself like a pretzel for a straightforward, hands out marking attempt. He's like the Hunchback of Notre Dame out there. I love him, he's always been my favourite, but he plays so stupidly. The coaches have to get in his ear and tell him that he's almost unstoppable when he runs hard, runs straight, stays in front and takes his marks with the ball in front of him. Overall his impact was fine, he causes headaches, but he could be so much more damaging.

Betts was quiet again. Garlett was pretty quiet as well. Garlett really has to work hard at sticking tackles. I know it's not easy at his size, but he's getting brushed off too easily at times.

Execution across the board from the second quarter on was absolutely deplorable. I think the structure got us into a position to dominate the game, even through the second and third terms, but we didn't take the chances we created. We won't get away with such wastefulness against the Swans. Plenty of work to do this week.

Pros
We won
Walker finally held a mark he flew for and played well

Cons
Hampson, surely we've seen enough

Gibbs, I'm really really disappointed in this bloke, runs around with no urgency, infuriating. Needs a wake up call, drop him, he thinks he's undroppable and plays that way

Again poor kicking for goal, nearly cost us

Gave up a good start

Selection table - went in way too short in defense, you could see it as soon as the teams were named.

Pros

- Defence in particularly Jamo, loving his rebound work getting the back ball out. With Bower and Watson also around our defence is looking more and more solid
- Walker, nice to see him have a good game and finally take that speccy :donk:
- Murph, fumbled a little bit but has really stepped up this year
- Ellard, very good game back
- Won when we were down and probably would have lost in the past
- Smashed them in every stat (Ratts will love that)

Cons
- Garlett and Betts were quiet
- Gibbs was very lacklustre
- Waite is very frustrating, I know he is basically a lone hand up fwd but he could be so much better
- Dreadful goal kicking
- Still blokes both going up for marks and spoiling each other (Waite and Walker)
- Missing Setanta or someone to crash a pack, say what you will about him but you can't fault his effort
- Stupid @#$%&! metro trains having track works after the game and making everyone on the southern and eastern lines go to platform 13 to get the train back to Flinders St
