Verbs I'd expect to flog a side on a hot day when they lose two runners (two of their fastest) and replace with 1 in and under.

and truly when they went down we did take control and I think we had most of the play

except

it often took them 4 swift passages and about 2 minutes to kick a goal

it often took us 15 minutes of !@#$%& hard slogging to kick one. - I know what I'd rather.

Its not that our blokes didn't try - they did but trying isn't enough.

Hopefully the imbalanced setups will be redressed and we will get back on track.

I'd prefer

Casboult to Hampson at this stage.

Lucas to Carazzo

Armfield to Collins

Bower to Laidler
Two blokes these days is just one man down compared to the opposition. Beauty of the sub rule. Many a side won games when they lost a bloke in the first 5 minutes under the old system. Hawks won a GF with only 2 on the bench. Bombers finished the game pretty hard. The biggest problem comes when you're down to one on the bench.

I like Henderson in Hampson's role. He's been doing some ruck work at training and can to some rucking while Warnock rests at FF. Could work until Kreuzer comes back. Then I wouldn't mind him playing CHB where he played some good footy for Brisbane. That position we need to fill. Thornton back in. That was a real winner (not!) dropping a bloke in decent form that's been taking a mark and kicking a goal at CHF for one rusty and underdone. Boy, did we pay for that! Lesson number one, play blokes showing form. Carrazzo was alright today and probably won't get dropped. Collins looked alright at Richmond and during the pre-season but looks lost right now....totally. Armfield must wonder what he ever did wrong especially having Collins ahead of him. Laidler's footy is pretty good. That'll give us more time to run bower into form in the Ants.

To me, we lost those 2 points at the selection table.

THIS.

There was less than 30 seconds when Simmo kicked it out on the full....Id say that cost us the game

What if Garlett hadn't played on?

What if Collins had kicked his two goals?

What if Gibbs' snap was a goal?

What if Judd had run an extra 15m and nailed the goal?

You sir must watch too much soccer.

1. Carlton should have played Armfield.

2. WE were lucky they did not play Hille.

I think dannyboy summed it up pretty accurately verbs. Some games you walk away from knowing the boys weren't a hope and you wear it. Days like today were points thrown away.

so Verbs lets go to the game with rugs and thermos and smile and chat and say 'jolly good show old chap' and slap each other on the back and
barrack for Melbourne.

There were two moments in that game - both involved an Essendon* player going down, both times we drew closer, got more momentum
and we still could not win.

Without those 2 moments I think Essendon* would have won by about 10 goals.

But hey, with this new sub rule lets hope two opposition players go down every week just to even up the selections of both teams
cos you know if Yazz and Betts went down it wouldn't hurt us in the least.

actually the way Betts is going just Yazz going down would hurt more. :smoking:

im all for locking it up, but dont give up 50 metres in such intensity at such a crucial time

THIS ^^^^

I cannot believe at that stage of the game that Jarrad Waite chose to kick backwards into our defensive 50. He was at HFF FFS! A long kick into the pocket, a contest, the ball rolls out we lock it in with the forward press we've been implementing and hey presto a victory!! I know it's not that simple but surely you guys get the drift?

We were pretty good today. Regardless of the result. Duigan was good, very good actually – that mark under pressure with 5 to go was excellent and he took a number of pack marks. I like what I have seen and he is improving. Curnow showed poise and had time when he got the ball under pressure. I like him. Murph was good today. Waite was excellent and I am starting to think the Carlton forward line needs him to fire every week. Outside of our midfield he is just about the most important part of our engine. Yarran was excellent today. His foot skills are magnificent. We have been calling out for a kid like him for years and here he is, the complete package. I like White’s game. Took some good contested marks and was not over sized. Collins probably found the heat in AFL a bit hot for a second week on the fly. His disposal and decisions under pressure were a bit off. I think he will get a rest in the two’s next week. Henderson looked short of a run and was not great today – play him again, he is a work in progress.

That was a game we could and should have won. Garlett, going back sucking 30-40 seconds off the clock and most importantly draining that goal would have been wonderful. Simmo would love that pass back, but he was superb all day long and these things happen.

A draw is better than a loss and that was a great game of footy.

Yes! That was a heart-in-mouth moment and Duigan got smashed while taking that mark.

go back several pages you'll see we all thought that we play stupid football. That was just 1 instance of it.

There are plenty more

and are we any younger than Essendon*?

and they have a new coach trying new things

Forget No Passengers

how about
Beat us cos will not beat ourselves

or

Carlton
the team that picks players who play

not potentials on a graph!

I think I am a tad pissed off tonight.

@#$%&! Essendon*

no

no

@#$%&! Carlton!

And Waite??? Never seen a carlton player lack so much upstairs. Coach not far behind.

Waite still thinks he's playing kick to kick at school. His weak as piss tackle in the last quarter and his continual dropping of marks almost cost us the match

Were you reading here this week? We were going to get spanked by Essendon*. Spanked.

Nobody in the media tipped us.

Perhaps you were all right and then two Essendon* players go down and we draw.

Fickle Flower Freaks.

I don't get it. Weird.

I want to beat a side that will finish higher than 12th. Hasn't happened for a while.

We beat the Saints and Geelong easily last year.

Like I said it's been a while.

And you can also thank 'Mr 2nd Gear' for running into an open goal and missing. The only thing he's number 1 at is his draft selection. Overrated.

well MMM know their stuff

Fwdline strategy or lack thereof was a joke. Long kicks to outnumbered fwdline. Took 40 mins in good weather to kick our first goal

Bye Bye Ratten

Took too long to get walker on for Hendo, he is going to ruin Tex's career/confidence

When people say "dumb" football - it's really undiciplined football. Essendon*'s improvement from last 2 years comes from now working harder and being better drilled. Our problem is lack of work ethic by a handfull of players and lack of "drill" - i.e. systems and rules that are adhered to. I am starting to think we might need a stricter task master as coach.

I'll go he if it was 2 bad kicks - in fact I bet he did about 4 great kicks and the rest either went to them or to a contest that favoured them. Yes he tackled - he bleeds for us. Yes he did some great things but he can only play backpocket and he must be instructed not to run past or replace him now.

His kicking is just not good enough.
Worse though, was in the first quarter, he got a mark at half back, Yaz runs past at Yaz pace, Carrtos looked at him, decided not to give off, held the ball jogging along then turned it over. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
