Same here, another Strathmore lad... Have mad Essendon* supporters on 1 side and Collowingwood on the other.

Ha! And I am building in Strathmore. Should be in by the end of the year.

We should form a Strathmore Supporters Club.

All week it seems I've been surrounded by Essendon* people. Sure, my wife and her family are Essendon*, having lived a stone's throw from Windy Hill, but my builder is Essendon*, people in meetings were Essendon*, it's just been a mess of a week.

Can't push the builder to hard though, I like my house upright and intact.

I hate this mob.
Good thing is they are probably favourites this time.

I cop it from everyone at work when we lose

I never used to talk us up, but used to cop it anyway......... now I just tell everyone that we will flog whoever we are playing

Go Baggers

I wouldn't play Curnow on Watson. Once Watson went forward (which he does quite often now), he's too big for Curnow.
Carrazzo or Gibbs for me.

Interesting article I saw posted online today (not sure of the sauce, and I can't find it - read like an AAP article).

It was mostly Ratts talking about Curnow and how surprised he has been at Curnow's rapid ascent. He made specific mention that it was Ellard's spot Curnow took in Rd 1, and his form has seen Ellard remain out of the team.

So unless they want to change the balance of the midfield group, it would suggest that Ellard's going to be spending time wearing red on weekends until Curnow tires out a bit.

One trick pony. Good solid player in his position but can't play another role. Would be interested to see how he would go as a defensive forward.

Curnow has some more size and zip about him and may be able to play half back but we are yet to see it.

Really hoping it doesn't rain tomorrow, if it does, we will get absolutely pumped!
Our team relies on footskills, we play like millionaires, just like the western bulldogs. As soon as the rain comes we get exposed due to our lack of desperation and hard running.
Only Judd, robbo, Jeff and curnow have been battling hard, it's a fair knock on the group when a rookie listed, first year player immediately stands out and gets a game because his work ethic is head and shoulders above the rest!

The Richmond game is a perfect example. In the 3rd it started raining, our skills were taken out of it, Richmond battled hard and came back like a freight train.

So unbelievably correct, it's scary. Carrots should not be playing this week. In the midfield and leadership group - 0 tackles, 4 marks and gave away 6 free kicks!!! Absolute rubbish. Armfield and Ellard bleed Blue. There's no way they wouldn't be better options.

I posted this earlier and it's how we'll beat them or they'll beat us.

The key to stopping Essendon* is stopping their run and the run is generated from stoppages. You have to shut down Watson, Howlett and Hocking and of course it helps if you win the ruck. These guys distribute it and they spread in numbers often wide - so there will be three or more options spread wide from a stoppage feed from Watson Howlett Hocking etc.

Sydney stopped them at stoppages and stopped the spread on the outside. That's what we need to do.
It requires huge accountability from midfielders going head to head in the grunt - Murphy, Judd, Robinson etc but also very careful checking on their spread players.

If we play with 100% intensity for 100% of the time (we played patches of 100% intensity against the pies) we will beat them.

Essendon*'s game plan is simple but effective because opposition don't pay respect to their lesser likes spreading and their grunt no-names likes Hocking, Howlett etc dishing it out.

This year they've added a forward press.

Yep, if we lay 56 tackles like last week, I guarantee we will lose. We need to murder them with 80+ tackles to stop their run.

Would that then mean that Brock's chances of playing senior footy again are zip???

Hope he plays.

Unless they play one of their ruckmen off the bench it means they have to play 2 of them forward. We play through their man on the way out and tell them to run, run, run.

Carrazzo - it's the only role he should play tomorrow, follow him everywhere, be the proverbial nappy.

You need a hunter on Watson. Someone who will shadow him, but contest the ball at ground level with him, beat him to it if required. If we let Watson gets first hands on it like he usually does, then good night. Carrots is that man.

I'm expecting a thumping anyway. Whenever I hear the word 'defensive' from our team we played like spanners.

Don't be surprised if Windowlicker plays on Yarran ala White did.

I think Curnow could have a go at Carrazzo's role or go forward if need be, leaving an opportunity for Brock. Each of Ellard, McLean & Curnow are a bit different in style and attributes.

I would say you could play Curnow with Brock, but not any other combination of the three.

Agreed. I've been pushing for Ellard to get regular games for ages (so I'm probably biased).

Got to reward VFL form. Not like he can show it in any other comp. Apparently not in the afl either. Hoping for a late change. Army would have to be close to playing too.

Yeh, sure. Like James Hird tells the truth!

I actually don't might Hird, he has always come across as a pretty decent bloke who loves his club...and good luck to him. But it will be interesting to see where Hird's head/ego is at under this media lovefest.

Hird was convincing telling Ch 7 reasons why Hille would play in ressies. If that is true, full praise to Hird for being honest and trying to keep a lid on things. If Hille is fully fit and plays, Hird might be believing the hype and playing games VERY early into his coaching career.

For his sake, I hope it's the first option...
