Interesting article I saw posted online today (not sure of the sauce, and I can't find it - read like an AAP article).

It was mostly Ratts talking about Curnow and how surprised he has been at Curnow's rapid ascent. He made specific mention that it was Ellard's spot Curnow took in Rd 1, and his form has seen Ellard remain out of the team.

So unless they want to change the balance of the midfield group, it would suggest that Ellard's going to be spending time wearing red on weekends until Curnow tires out a bit.

Our team relies on footskills, we play like millionaires, just like the western bulldogs. As soon as the rain comes we get exposed due to our lack of desperation and hard running.
Only Judd, robbo, Jeff and curnow have been battling hard, it's a fair knock on the group when a rookie listed, first year player immediately stands out and gets a game because his work ethic is head and shoulders above the rest!

The Richmond game is a perfect example. In the 3rd it started raining, our skills were taken out of it, Richmond battled hard and came back like a freight train.

I posted this earlier and it's how we'll beat them or they'll beat us.

The key to stopping Essendon* is stopping their run and the run is generated from stoppages. You have to shut down Watson, Howlett and Hocking and of course it helps if you win the ruck. These guys distribute it and they spread in numbers often wide - so there will be three or more options spread wide from a stoppage feed from Watson Howlett Hocking etc.

Sydney stopped them at stoppages and stopped the spread on the outside. That's what we need to do.
It requires huge accountability from midfielders going head to head in the grunt - Murphy, Judd, Robinson etc but also very careful checking on their spread players.

If we play with 100% intensity for 100% of the time (we played patches of 100% intensity against the pies) we will beat them.

Essendon*'s game plan is simple but effective because opposition don't pay respect to their lesser likes spreading and their grunt no-names likes Hocking, Howlett etc dishing it out.

This year they've added a forward press.

I wouldn't play Curnow on Watson. Once Watson went forward (which he does quite often now), he's too big for Curnow.
Carrazzo or Gibbs for me.
