The problem is we have a lot of that third tall type at the club and I think Laidler will definitely play.

Will certainly make intraclub and preseason games interesting. I think both hbf (running / creator replacing Gibbs eg Duigan, Scotland, Lucas, Tuohy, O'Keefe, Twoomey) and 3rd tall Laidler, White, Davies, T-Bird, Dare, even Austin will be the most hotly contested positions.

Also hff will be interesting with Walker, Houlahan, Yarran, Collins, Robinson all looking for a spot with Murphy / Judd / Gibbs rotating on the other side

Looking forward to some footy being played and reports from those that can get there.

I agree he is a level above Davies but he needs to improve his defensive game. He's our own version of Mitchell Johnson.
A couple of years ago Johnson had a good run of taking wickets off bad balls which hid his deficiencies. Similarly, Whites opponents missed a lot of shots from memory which lessened the impact of his loose play.
I'm not trying to be critical. He impressed me with his courage and his composure but he'll need to continue his improvement to maintain a position.

Agree BV, he was quite lucky against Podsiadly (3 behinds) and then I think Dawes missed a couple against him as well.

White often tries to cut off and intercept others and sometimes is caught too much off his man. It might have worked in WAFL level but he was lucky it didnt catch up to him at AFL level. Jamison can do this on some opponents because his closing speed is very good but White doesnt quite have that pace as yet (or starts from too far back).

Id have Davies ahead of White for certain opponents - Id see Davies as more a tall midfielder type matchup with White your bigger marking players ie Id say Davies is faster over 10m. With fewer genuine talls in the game I think Davies has more chance to get to say 100 games that White but you never know. White also has superior skills.

I can`t see White or Davies playing too much senior footy this year. Duigan is ahead of both Davies and Laidler imo. White`s best chance is the sub`.

I would have him in before Laidler as the 3rd up, but don't know much about Laidler.

As neither ABNS or TBB considered White wondering if this was an oversight or you just don't believe he is good enough?

Thoughts?

I must admit that I don't see White playing a significant role in our future. He's been overrated by some on TC, IMO.

However, he showed enough at both VFL & AFL level in 2010 to deserve another look in 2011, and hopefully he has more upside than I give him credit for.

Another player that hasn't been talked about much is Dare. He's something of a 'roughie' in terms of making an impact for us in defence, but I was impressed with his form late in the VFL season and I'll be watching his progess closely this year...

CC: Gibbs Murphy Simpson
HF: Garlett Henderson Houlihan
FF: Betts Waite Walker

RR: Kreuzer McLean Judd

Int: Warnock Scotland Yarran

Sub: Carrazzo/Twomey/Duigan

Really hope that Yarran can come on as a small defensive option, otherwise we have to turn to Joseph (who needs a lot of work) or Tuohy (still a year away from AFL football).

Tough call on Carrazzo, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with that. The idea on the sub choices was midfield utility.

For round 4 it's currently:

FB: Laidler Jamison Watson
HB: Yarran Bower Russell
CC: Gibbs McLean Simpson
HF: Robinson Waite Collins
FF: Betts Walker Garlett

RR: Warnock Judd Murphy

Int: Hampson Curnow White
Sub: Thornton

So the general public has NFI for the most part.

Really think Armfield needs to go back to a back pocket. He was good as a shut down player last year at times, and provides line-breaking that we don't have a lot of. I know his disposal isn't great, but it did get better last year. IMO, we can only play one of Duigan and Laidler, they just don't give enough run.

B: Armfield Jamison Duigan/White/Laidler/Watson depending on matchup
HB Russell Bower Yarran

Get run and dash from Armfield and Yarran, and line-breaking Bower. Russell needs to give more run.

who played on Didak last week?

it's not a loaded question.......I suggest whoever it was will be needed this week for perhaps Monfries.

Armfield maybe a good match up for Zaharakis

I think our back-line suits their forward line..
We have 2 key position defenders for Crameri and Hurley and then we have someone like Bower who can play on a Ryder or Hille but also matchup on Zaharakis or Monfries. Not to mention Laidler.. Then add Russell, Yarran and Duigen for some creativity. Sounds good anyway

This is the side I believe that by years end can beat Collingwood:

B: Touhy Jamison Laidler
HB: Yarran Watson Duigan Gibbs

C: Warnock Judd Murphy Waite Curnow Simpson

HF: Russell Henderson Walker
F: Garlett Kruezer

Int: Lucas Robinson Ellard Sub: Scotland/Armfield/Houlihan

Lots of rotations and options. Priority is kicking and we have some real hardness.
Goalkicking options and flexibility.

That side is starting to look better and better, especially now Touhy is in. I rate guys like Bower & White as well but how do you get them in. They need to show form in the Bullants.

On form Scotland should definitely be in, probably for Lucas and Thornton in for Watson but I just like Watson's kicking but he is probably 12 months away.

If we could somehow add one or two more 'A' grade mids to that lot we would be top 2 easily!

I think you'll find Bower (once over his injury) would be the preferred choice for the replacement of CHB with Watson in there (doesn't Watson need show form in the Bullants too?) but Thornton is the fit one at the moment.
Scotland for Lucas and I think E.Betts will find it hard to be dropped as his fwd pressure is his thing & rated by Ratt's. Perhaps the sub for Edwardo, as he does love junk time, maybe 5 goals as the sub...
