waite plays his best football as a backman? on what basis do we qualify that........?

up until 2010, i dont recall him ever settling into one position.

since Fev's departure and his return from Knee reco, he has averaged 2 goals a game as a mobile forward. In a reconstructed forward, i would have thought he has played an enormously valuable role as a forward.

now back to measuring his success as a backman?

He was in all australian form as a backman prior to his knee.

If you took the best key forward from every club Waite wouldn't stack up so well.

If you put him on the best key forward from every club Waite wouldn't stack up so well.

rubbish he can go with any of them

Not so sure he can. Riewoldt, Brown et al typically have the better of him. We need him forward anyway, and I personally prefer him forward.

Not sure how people expect our forward line to function with Henderson as the lone permanent target.

I have it on good authority that this is Ratts speech just before they run out

Quote:
Those filth ridden, cleft arsed, squirrel eatin', sash parading, bottom feeding, lower class, cheating, lying, scum sucking, 10 pound peices of $hit in a 5 pound sack.

Name one semi-decent thing to vomit from the eternal blackness of this evil discpicable institution of slimy toad molesting, climate change causing, swamp dwelling, tree fornicating, insidious destructors of all virtuous morality!

Just one!

May their demonic existence end!

The humanitarian thing to do is to confiscate all physical memory of the prior existence of this egregious institution and place it carefully aboard an in-expensive rocket before firing it directly into the sun.

Then all the decent people in the moral world can sleep easily.

Now get out there and @#$%&!'em over

with thanks to taranasouras who deserves post of the year

If anyone thinks that Thornton is a better long term, or short term prospect than Henderson, then why did we recruit Henderson ? If he is ready to play he has to come in. Carrots has to be accountable for his turnovers at some stage. Duigan could still be OK for us, as could Collins, but Armfield will provide more run from half back & I am worried about Essendon*'s run and play on, which has hurt us in recent times, although we smashed them last time. I don't take any comfort or confidence from that result. Despite the rantings of some, they are clearly playing better football this year and this is a real danger game for us.

Spot on.

This game will have to be close to a sellout wouldnt it? Anyone know if they are going to play it live into Melbourne or country Victoria like they did last week for the Pies clash?

I haven't heard anything yet, but hoping someone else might of.

Expecting 75K according to the MCG website.

I doubt it will be live cause it's not prime time.

The weather will have a big effect. If this continues they will be lucky to get 55-60K.
I'll be tucked away in front of the heater and the TV.

I gather from that the weather this weekend is supposed to be wet at the MCG?

Does changes things a little for mine. And probably make the margin either way fairly close.

By the way it'll be sunny warm and 30 degrees here in Perth today. Might head to the beach...

At the moment I would have Thornton in the side ahead of Walker. Walker just isnt a smart footballer and I cant see him getting any better. Thornton reads the ball well and can be a great 3rd option next to 2 of Waite, Henderson, Hampson, Kruezer, Warnock. He can also go back if needed.

I would bring in Henderson, Bower, Ellard & Lucas and out Walker, Watson/Laidler, Betts and Carrazzo. Betts is in poor form and needs to go back and work hard. Garlett and Collins will be better options. I dont think we can have Laidler, Bower, Watson in the same side. Ellard and Lucas will add to midfield rotations and are better ball users than some others.

Lucas Jamison Watson
Yarran Bower Gibbs
Simpson Ellard Russell
Collins Henderson Thornton
Garlett Waite Hampson
Warnock Judd Murphy
Curnow Robinson Scotland (Sub:Duigan)

Well, this is the first Carlton/Essendon* game I will be missing for the first time in many years due to work commitments, so if one of you could do me a favour and get stuck into as many of their fans as possible when we win, that'd be much appreciated

Updated popular 22 for this week from http://best22.afl.com.au/carlton/ :

FB: Duigan Jamison Laidler
HB: Yarran Bower Russell
CC: Gibbs Curnow Simpson
HF: Walker Waite Robinson
FF: Betts Hampson Garlett

RR: Warnock Judd Murphy

Int: Lucas Carrazzo Scotland
Sub: Thornton

So that's:

IN: Bower, Lucas
OUT: Watson, Collins

Nice effort from the public, but I think it needs more Armfield.

I agree that he is in ahead of Walker, but I'm not convinced he keeps his spot regardless. Walker should be a definite out for mine, and Tbird would be borderline.

In: Army, Ellard, Hendo, Bower
Out: Walker, Carrots, Thornton or Collins*, Duigan or Watson* (*depending on who Essendon* play)
