Sure is a funny way for Giesch to say "Carlton, we're sorry. We [REDACTED] up and it'll never happen again"

Gieschen is too stupid to be a liar - he is clearly an idiot and he only remains in his position because he makes his boss Adrian Anderson look good.

WHERE GIESCH STUFFED UP:

A Player makes Prohibited Contact with an opposition Player if
the Player:
pushes, bumps, blocks, holds an opposition Player or
deliberately interferes with the arms of an opposition
Player, who is in the act of Marking or attempting to
Mark the football

Jarred Blair should have been charged for acting. That rule was introduced for exactly what he did, he was laughing when the umpire awarded him the free kick.

You're flowering kidding me?
Defending bad decisions purely for the sake of defending them shows that the AFL and umpiring department are thumbing their nose at fans who have been watching football all their lives. When both major papers highlight the free kick as being wrong it must say something.

Jeff Gieschen says:

Quote:
"We see the long kick come in, we see the umpire in a perfect position ... we see Blair going towards Jordan Russell and we see Jordan Russell take up a good position," Gieschen said, reviewing the decision on the AFL website.

We see a lot of things Jeff - but mainly we see that you are a complete buffoon.

I'd like to hear the official directive on what Russell was supposed to do.

Step out of Blair's way perhaps?

I'd like to know how Jordan is meant to push his front with his forearms.

Stand his ground and keep his arm tucked in to bump Blair.

High contact, low impact and negligent conduct.

One week due to Russell's clean sheet.

Free to play with an early plea, but carry over points.

What a pale imitation of the game we once knew. A @#$%&! joke competition with bullshit rules made up on the run, and applying differently to different clubs.

Any mention of the Gibbs around the neck non decision, followed by holding the ball decision?
All of the contentious frees against us happened at crucial times and in the worst positions on the ground. I couldn`t believe their supporters around us thought they were getting a raw deal.
If Blair was bigger he wouldn`t have gone to ground and no free would have been paid.

Seems to me the laws back Geishen up.

15.4.3 lists the types of permitted contact, but also specifically states that any contact listed in 15.4.5 is against the laws of the game.

JR, and Blair were in a marking contest.

JR pushed Blair out of the marking contest.

That type of contact is a breach of the laws of the game, so a free kick was awarded.

And for anyone complaining about the AFL changing the game you grew up with, etc; you must be really old, because laws prohibiting this type of contact have been around since at least 1866.

Quote:
7. Tripping, holding, hacking prohibited. Pushing with hands or body is allowed when any player is in rapid motion or in possession of ball, except in the case of a mark.

All well and good Lurker but Blair ran into him - thus initiating the contact.

p.s I think you're overanylysing what is a pretty simple intepretation. Geish is making it complex to try and justify being wrong.

10000000000000 squillion others will back me up on this.

How many of those "10000000000000 squillion others" do you think have actually read the laws of the game?

I reckon 0.05% if you're bloody lucky.

Checked the Laws of the Game, and as LB said 14.4.5 overrules 14.4.3.

Watched the video of the incident and Gieschen's full commentary and he's fair and reasonable enough in this instance.

Jordan did push, and Jordan was allowed to hold his ground using his chest, hip, shoulder or forearm.
