There were things to like, but just as many things to loathe.

Collingwood weren't at their best tonight, and neither were we. Our plan B still falls apart against decent teams and we still make too many dumb decisions.

Luckily we have players who are capable of good solo efforts to keep us competitive, and cover the arses of those who @#$%&! it up. Can't fault the endeavour, but they're still a bunch of individuals trying their best, not a team.

We don't play as a team. We play as a group of guys who seem to guess where they should be. Compare that to the mob we just played against, they run in packs, with or without the ball. You know that if you go in, your mate is there to back you up. If we didn't play so selfishly we'd be able to compete against these sorts of teams.

The moment that summed it up was poor Watson being left on four guys in his defensive 50. He must already realise how quickly he'll have to grow up surrounded by some of these guys.

While the margin is OK I thought our effort after HT was pathetic...we gave in...piss weak! I'm !@#$%& livid!

I never saw us give in.

I dont think we should hang our heads after this one. There was probably only 10 minutes during the game that I thought we were dominated. A Grand final, a bit of belief and some woeful decisions our way and it is a totally different story. This team is the best in the business both on and of the field and for 90 mintues we served it right up to them. We are not coming any more. we are not stealing WWE taglines. We are the real deal.

PS lay off Gibbs, he will be the best midfielder in the league.

I don't think we gave in either, just not sure our coaches believed we could win? The slow kick of the ball was never going to do anything but restrict the losing margin.
Gibbs in a negative role, does not seem to make sense to me.

Cause otherwise he would just run around aimlessly avoiding contests, listening for footsteps, and generally getting in the way of an actual footballer. At least if he players a negating role we get something out of him.

I can accept being beaten by class but we were beaten by structure. Their ability to score from stoppages and the skill of retaining possession out of the backline reflects a team that is well drilled and well taught. Possession is too hard to earn without surrendering it to 50/50 contests. How many of our 1st or 2nd possessions out of defence were long kicks to contests compared to Collingwood? Far too many. They built their attacking options from defence while we gave up the ball.

As for Rattens 3/4 time interview, well, it's best I dont comment.

Positives. Watson had a dip and Jeffy was electric again.

Not on what I saw tonight. Shitting yourself and kicking off the ground rather than put the body on the line was WAP! Was there for all to see. How much time do you give some one to stand up and be counted. Maybe he is just not that kind of player. Also when it counted where was Murphy? Injured?

As someone who has only listened to radio coverage, what will the general footy public think of our performance? Did we pass the 'genuine contender' test?

Harry Obrien ripped us a new aszhole in defence. We definitely need a power forward.

??? I dont think any of their players did anything outstanding, just a better team performance.

Blair getting a soft goal and he then scooped on what should have a dropped ball decision, even he didnt do that much!!

We were beaten by a better side and made some fumbles and errors at the wrong time but to say some players ripped us apart is wrong.......apart from the 4 points I dont think many of the filth can take much away from us.

This is almost the best team they (Collingwood) had out there.......the Blues are still short Henderson, Kruezer, Bower, Houlihan and probably Setanta. We lacked experienced and strength and that is what stood out.

Give them a few injuries to key personel and the gap is closer than most think in fact depending on where we both are - it could go our way.

Considering most football "journalists" and "commentators" had us penciled in for at least a 10-12 goal hiding. Maybe we did show something.

Duigan, Carrazo and Collins back to the twos......Army, Ellard and White straight in and hopefully Hendo and Bower can come up as well.

Glass half full for me

For those who didn't see it, it was rather embarrassing. Didn't really offer anything in the way of what things we would do structurally to change the game. Spoke of a +4 differential in tackles. Big deal...does that have any statistical significance?

BV our options out of defence since Ratten came on board are bomb it down the line or switch and try to free up someone on the opposite wing...why hasn't anything changed in this regard?

Joseph is finished and is there a spot for Brock/Ellard? Hoops - also where is the spot for him? Would he make enough of a difference to beat Collingwood?

Dont hurry back Kreuze and Hendo. Make sure they are right for the latter part of the year.

There is no way we should panic after tonight. Apart from 10 mins we gave as good as we got. They didnt play as good as they can because we did not let them. when we had confidence and run - they shit themselves. Make no mistake we can be one of the genuine contenders.

Collins had a shocker. Too may turnovers.

I would like to think he can only improve from here.

A bit more run from the back is needed. It falls to Yarran at the moment.

Armfield can also provide this.

Watson will get stronger and more confident . This was game 2 for CFC so he needs to be kept in the 1st 22.

Hendo would add more structure to the forwards.

Bower a bit more than presence when he is fit.

This was round 3 of 22 games. We an win more than 12 of the remainder.

I suspect we will play Collingwood more than x2 this year.

That 2nd killed us. The stoppages killed us. Ellard, Army and Mclean have roles to play for us - perhaps Joseph and Houla too

We need Hendo
We need Bower
We need Kruise

Hampson/Waite/Walker/ Betts just didn't do enough for mine.

But what realy hurt was the @#$%&! kicking backwards in the backline - it does not work anymore. Maybe one kick every now and then, but that is it!

Pfft nothing to worry about apart from Betts who is the Crime Stoppers missing person against good teams.

Nothing but majority positives for me.

Commentators claiming the Pies have improved and we only lose by 4 goals.

Give me Kreuzer and Hendo in place of T-Bird and Hammer and we have better contests inside 50.

Get inside Betts ear and develop another trick.

Duigan learnt plenty tonight, was flogged.

shouldn't dwell on umpiring decisions but i am. That free to Blair against Russell is one of the greatest clangers ever and similarly the free to Shaw when he was in Gibbs back and over his should er 35 metres out was just as inept.

The Blair goal killed us - gave them more momentum. what a disgrace.
