Apart from anything else I feel the tone of the article is insulting to a champion player in Ablett.

Not insulting at all. Bottom line is, we sometimes don't spend enough time looking at the support players have/have got around them. These variables play a significant part in a players make up. Bottom line is that Fev was a star given what he had around him. Same with Judd. Have a look at Kerr since he lost his support.
Gary Ablett was a star at Geelong. No doubt. Like Walls, I have doubts that when the opposition can invest more resources into negating him, he will find another gear.
He went for the money.....that's fine, good luck to him. Judd's main reason for leaving Perth was that he wanted to return to Melb. Yes, he's not a poor man but his initial reasons didn't centre on outside distractions

Im my very humble opinion, Gary Ablett will never reach the same heights he reached at Geelong!
And Chris Judd will be a two time premiership player/ brownlow medallist at two different clubs

Whoever gets the job on G.Ablett tomorrow, I hope they frustrate the flying fire truck out of him.

I remember one of the retired umpires being asked about the votes that Judd gets. His reply was you would not appreciate from the stands the amount of physical pressure he is under every second he is on the field. Seems a valid point to me.

Agree with the thoughts in the article. Judd has done it tough while Ablett has been pampered. We will see if he still has the same influence on games in a Gold Coast jumper.

I can see Walls' point. However, the article is 3 years too early.

With the number of draft picks the Gold Coast has, it may not take long for them to come good. It's unlikely to be this year though.

His comments on Ablett's attitude at the moment are reasonable though. Remember when Fev went up to that Mundine boxing match and the flak he copped for it?

How can you write that article before he's even played a game for GC?

He could very well be right, but at least give Ablett the chance to show whether he can prosper out of the Geelong side.

A bit unfair I think.

I don't think its on-field performance per se that he's concerned about. It's Ablett's leadership.

He's right. How does it look when the team is in a NAB QF in Perth and Ablett is at a wrestling show in Sydney. If you can get in a plane, fly to Pert. If you can't stay home and rehab. Ditto the GP last weekend. He's chosen GC. He cant think that his social life in Melbourne will continue unabated. He has to consider himself a GC resident.

Walls is spot on.

Ablett is a great play, Judd is a great Player.

Judd is a thousand times better mentally prepared for being a star in a less supported environment.

Ablett is learning very quickly why Judd is such a better player. He never had to put up with this at Geelong.

Wait for two weeks time when Wallsy rolls out the "Essendon* haven't beaten anyone yet" article.

Ablett will still be a damn good player over the next few years but he may have realized tonight that football's still a team game.

And there's no 'Ablett' in team...

Too right there was. It was like when he was at Geelong all over again, except there were also the 'sympathy' for new club/team receiving a thrashing as well. Most times he's tackled, umps give him a free. And nearly every time he tackles (which is not often), umps give him a free.
