Apart from anything else I feel the tone of the article is insulting to a champion player in Ablett.

Excellent article ... someone had to say it ... Sick of the 'Garry best player for the last 4 years' theme. Now .. we will see.

Well done Robert Walls ... a true Carlton man.

Agreed

I can see Wallsys point, but Ablett is a champion and really there's little between he and Judd

It is true Ablett needs to cope now with being a marked man at a young club, but there's no need to pay the botos into him yet

Didn't Ablett in an article just say that outside criticism really motivates him :screwy:

He does this too often...is Walls bitter about something the club has done to him

..brilliant article.. ....i also don't think Gazza will be able to be as strong consistently for GC as he has been at the cats.. ..he'll be going into this season with no real pre-season, and no match fitness.. ..he's gonna be the main target like never before, leading a team half full of kids.. ..all this and underdone too.. .... ..and not as young as Judd was when he came across to us.. ..i reckon the degree of difficulty is higher..

..stick a tight physical tag on him [army] and have our stars take the rest of gc midfield on..

Well Done Wallsy.

You're only a fingernail on Judd son of a hippy.

Not insulting at all. Bottom line is, we sometimes don't spend enough time looking at the support players have/have got around them. These variables play a significant part in a players make up. Bottom line is that Fev was a star given what he had around him. Same with Judd. Have a look at Kerr since he lost his support.
Gary Ablett was a star at Geelong. No doubt. Like Walls, I have doubts that when the opposition can invest more resources into negating him, he will find another gear.
He went for the money.....that's fine, good luck to him. Judd's main reason for leaving Perth was that he wanted to return to Melb. Yes, he's not a poor man but his initial reasons didn't centre on outside distractions

Im my very humble opinion, Gary Ablett will never reach the same heights he reached at Geelong!
And Chris Judd will be a two time premiership player/ brownlow medallist at two different clubs

Whoever gets the job on G.Ablett tomorrow, I hope they frustrate the flying fire truck out of him.

The article headline and the first few paragraphs (usually about as far as 90% of people read) pump up Juddy's tires and infer that without support Ablett would not be the player he is.

Well, we simply don't know that.

To me Ablett was a foward flanker with supreme talent and no work ethic until 4 years ago and I don't believe the rise in the Geelong machine and Gary Ablett becomming a great of the game at the same time is a coincidence.

insulting to gazza, so anyone that played at geelong in the last 4 years had support so we cant judge how good they are.
so chapman, scarlett, bartel etc are not as good bc they play for geelong. load of shit
ablett was the best player in my eyes over the last 4 years easily, obviously its going to be harder at the gold coast but everyone would know that.
judd is a gun and i have a man crush on him but he has not been as good as ablett.

It is true. I checked all the most important points. His name is Gary, and his surname doesn't start with "J". Therefore he can never be a Judd. He can earn more, but he can never be a "Judd". Judd is Judd and end of story. Son of God can only evr be a son of a legend and a legend himself. He will never do what Judd has. Just give him 4 to 5 years of being smashed, crashed and thumped as a target in the middle, trying to be the ball extractor for a while. Judd didn't defect, he went to greener pastures. Gary left the greener pastures to enter a bone dry paddock. Good luck champ. Love ya to bits, but you will never be a Judd. never. Mark this psot for future referrence.

It's not a load of shit. They are interdependant and interconnected variables. On their own, they are all great players. As a group, synergy is created and they become even greater than the sum of the parts. All I am alluding to is that people who think that Ablett will just pick up where he left off at Geelong IMHO will be probably disappointed.
Happy to revisit this topic at the end of the H&A.
Prediction: Ablett will be frustrated to the shithouse this year

Yeh...he's got a point though.

Ablett's playing in a completely different side to what he did at Geelong. And like Juddy he's now the face of the club really. Will take him a while to get used to both aspects.
