I really feel for Ratts and to me it's only going to get worse. I just hope that not only does he succeed and stick it up a few but all this crap does not derail the team in 2011 and he is able to do the job he is paid to do.

Maybe someone can ask him whether he thinks that Ess structures and gameplan are more evident in one game than ours in 4 years. Don't ya all start jumping down my throat with this provocative comment.
I'll bet most Car supporters are thinking, "flower I hope this is just his honeymoon period or just a bit of adrenalin that will burst"

Anyway, let's revisit this when we play those flowering flowers. Beat them and we'll provide one of the pins to burst their arrogant bubble.

I for one was ready to jump down your throat when I realised you will most likely already have your foot in your mouth.

Agree, hope they do a Brisbane 2010 and win a few early ones (not against us) and then fall away to wallow in their own worthlessness...

No foot in mouth here. It was a provocative comment and I stand by my comments that we would have all raised an eyebrow at their rate of improvement. Whether you want to accept it or not, Essendon* have 'appeared' to have improved out of sight since last year. Now it's early days yes....but if you go back through TC over the last 2 years, the moment anyone on here made comments re. a slow rate of progress, they were attacked.
We've come from a long way back
they're just kids
they need time
etc etc
Nothing less than a top 4-5 this year and a competitive effort in a prelim should be tolerated. Otherwise we are completely delusional

99Prelim, I'd tread very warily with Essendon* and their supposed improvement.
Ratten is not a great speaker and probably hates doing media interviews. However, we're stuck with him for the entirety of 2011, and, unless he pulls the proverbial rabbit out of a __{_}__ he won't be at the helm in 2012. So let's support him and hope like all hell the rabbit can somehow be extricated from his __{_}__

Essendon* are still shit.

They beat a seriously underdone team who have lost both their spiritual leader (Johnson) and a seriously underrated player (who I'd rate in their top 5) in Harbrow.

They went into that game with 9 players who didn't play in their last AFL game.

To top it off they rode what was a significant emotional wave on the back of the homecoming of two of their favorite sons.

Add it up.

If things are still this rosey for the Bombers in three months I'm happy to accept they're the real deal but some of the stuff in this thread is laughable after one round.

BTW...

Every year everyone gets excited about Essendon* in the first few rounds and every year I say they're shit.

I suppose it's possible I'll be wrong one day...

who cares how dumb or smart he is, as long as the team improves and grows, he took over a rabble and got us into 2 finals series , do people think if malthouse or roos was our coach the last 2 years we would have won a flag, it took malthouse 10 years to do it at pies and bomber 7 years

Or Jezza 1.5 years into the gig (1979) or Parkin in his first two years (81 - 82).

Loved Ratts as a player, but not as a coach

Having read all the posts on this thread before hearing the interview I am dumbfounded how some people take what was said and end up with the comments that were posted.

Yes Ratts was a little defensive, but I got the impression that there was an agreement not to talk about his contract before the interview and yet KB raised it anyway which catch Ratts a little off guard, but would be reading probably a bit too much in it as well.

DEFENSIVE PRESSURE EARNS YARRAN PRAISE FROM COACH

Love the difference of opinions over Chris Yarran's game on Thursday night.

Richmond's Matt White completely tagged Yarran out of the game after the Blues defender's excellent pre-season.

So much so that his coach Damien Hardwick gave him a vote in the AFLPA Coaches Award.

Yet Brett Ratten was equally thrilled with Yarran.

''From a defensive point of view Chris's opponent had five or six possessions, so Chris did the job,'' Ratten told SEN.

''For the first time in defence it was encouraging. His bloke got one goal because Chris attacked the ball and tried to slow the game up. We thought he played his part.''

lol well played by Ratts.

Josh, I pray like hell that their honeymoon period has a short half life. Having said, early signs for those pricks are concerning for carl supporters. Ratts is the Carlt coach for 2011. period. I wish him all the best. 2012 can be discussed in Oct this year.

Ratts has done a great job ... and its early doors yet.

By the way ... I was listening to Swan on the radio the other day ... he also said it was early doors.

So one thing for sure ... ITS EARLY DOORS.

It can't have anything to do with Hird though, they didn't go through an exhaustive selection process and Hird had less coaching experience than Ratten when he took the job...therefore he can't coach.

Slow rate of progress  Seems to be a bit of amnesia coming on. In 2009 the Bombers were all the rage for the Ratten critics as to how you should be playing the game...none of that going wide rubbish you can't win a flag doing that :yikes: Attack, attack.

If any team in the AFL was suited to the Collingwood blueprint it is the Bombers, but as others have said lets see how the whole season pans out.

Yes it was simulcast on all stations throughout the free world.
