Well i think this is what will happen judging by what i saw briefly at training this morning. He was involved in some solid competitive work with Jamo and Waite and had a long discussion with Ratts. Fitness wise should be ok.

That's good news. Was Bower training? How did he look?

Reckon a GC/Carlton HT/FT double presents decent value.

We've got a decent amount of midfield rotations, they've barely got a starting midfield, reckon we'll absolutely run all over them in the second half.

Would like to see Judd go head to head with Ablett in the midfield, ala the days he'd go one out against Goodes, I think it's a battle we can win, especially with his limited preparation and lack of options to block for him (nice to have this as a luxury not a headache for a change). Russell should take him if he goes forward, but that's about it. If we're serious about the tagger no longer having a place in the modern game, this is the game to make that statement.

I'd almost be inclined to bring in another midfielder in Ellard ahead of one of the two talls set to come back.

Although I'd love to see Hendo Watson & Aussie get some match conditioning I tend to agree that we're likely to load up with our lists fittest runners up there in the 27° humidity.

Not surprised at no Bower and Hendo only an emergency - wish the coaching staff would stop talking about players that clearly aren't ready as if they are though.

Congrats to Watson on his first senior game :)

Ellard must be spewing he got rubbed out for the first game.

Looks like one of the little fellas will have to get injured for him to get back in.

No Bower again I see. I hate to say this, but why is the club always so dishonest about Bower’s injuries? It happened all through last year – and is happening again this year. Ratts said one week ago that he was almost right to go, just needed to give him one more week. Yet he’s missing again, and wasn’t listed in the injury list. Why do they keep doing this?

Thornton a very lucky man. I think he might spend time up forward or even the sub. Lucky its only the Suns.

Hurry back quick Bower and Jamo.

Shame that Lucas didn't fire last week. Is there any issue with him ? Was looking forward to him having a good year. Good luck to Watson, he looks to have the goods

Gotta love a name like Maverick Weller......sounds like a boxer or fighter pilot

Thornton was asked to do a job he was incapable of doing. Can't blame the guy for that, just like we can't blame Simon White.

Then Thornton shouldn't be on our list, it shows our depth isn't as strong as we thought it was if we don't have a player to cover injuries to key backs.

I don't want to be negative towards him as I think he was a good player in our dark years but unfortunately the game has passed him by.

..looking at the team, it's fair to say the sub would be one of the bench listed players..?..

I think Watson will play on Dixon or the resting ruckman....good selection.

Imagine Thornton or White up against Dixon...it is his first game but he's close to 200cm.

Comparing the 2 teams as lined up

Their backline looks better than our backline

Their following divison has 2 Number 1 draft pics and Gary Abblet our following division has 2 number 1 draft picks and Rob Warnock.

Our centre line has judd so eclipses theirs

Our forward line looks much better than theirs.

Our bench has Robbo and 3 late round draft picks/ elevated rookies who have got there through hard work
Their bench has 4 of the most talented 18 year olds in the country

We should win - but I'm not sure how easy it will be

I think letting him have another run against the suns is more of a second chance to prove how deep our list is...

Only time will tell

Watto! Well he would have been my next choice after Bower. I think he'll get a go on Dixon or the resting ruckman in a tall forward line for GC.

That's a very short and physically weak GC defence that we should knock from pillar to post despite Bock & Brown. Last week we backed the run, and this week we're backing the height. Carrazzo's probably going to sub.

Don't quite understand the thought process behind their selections, Magin offers zip and a bit of skill, but not when you've already got Matera, McKenzie & Krakouer? Stanley is just a mature body, but a lot of their kids are already a solid build including Caddy who would look to open up the game more than Stanley.

Lock is a fierce competitor that lacks a little polish but he can get involved in the middle of the ground. I suspect either he or Bennell will be the sub. I think Tape probably unbalances the team at this point, it may have been wiser to play one of Coad or Hutchins, given the use of Hunt in defence. That said, I named Coad, Hunt, Hutchins, Bock & Flanagan, which makes for a tall defence in hindsight.

So perhaps Magin & Tape would stay, with Stanley and Lock coming out for Hutchins and Caddy to add defensive height and some skill respectively.

Pretty sure the sub comes from the list interchange, so Watson's a starter. My money's on Carrazzo, who was suffering a virus earlier in the week.
