Duigan Bower White
JR Laidler Scotland
Simmo Judd Curnow
Garlett Waite Carrazzo
Betts Hammer Tex

Warnock Gibbs Murphy

Inter: Armfield, Ellard, Robbo
Sub: Yarran

In - Bower, Ellard
Out - Lucas, T-Bird

I know this team looks a bit short, but the forecast is for warm (high 20s) weather this weekend in Brisbane. That's warmer than we're used to playing footy in. Plus we'll be up against a young side with plenty of 'bounce'. I reckon we'll need the extra run that Ellard provides in those conditions. I thought about bringing in Hendo, but I don't think he'd be able to sustain his usual workrate in the heat at the moment. I would persist with the plan of playing the 'resting' ruckman in attack for extended periods alongside Waite, Tex and Betts.

If Bower isn't ready to go this week, T-Bird holds his place. I thought about Watson, but I'm concerned about him lasting the distance in the heat. Plus, a backline consisting of Watson, Laidler, Duigan and White is too inexperienced (I would rather bring Watson in when Jamo and Bower have settled back into the line-up).

By the way, there's not a lot separating T-Bird and White for mine, so those two could swap places easily. But I get the feeling the MC prefers White...

I've gone with Yarran as my Sub. I'm not abandoning his HB role after one game, I just think playing him as a Sub might serve the following purposes this week - (1) it might throw GC off because they would have made their pre-season plans based on Yarran starting in defence; (2) it might give Yaz a minor 'wake up call' without having to actually drop him yet; (3) if he's still a bit sore it means he doesn't have to play a full game; and (4) he's the type of player who can influence a game in a short period of time off the bench.

And I see nothing wrong with sending Lucas back the VFL to get some TOG and confidence. He's only young and is coming back from a long lay off.

Can't agree with this. We need more hight in the team, so Hendo comes in for Lucas, Bower for Thornton or White.
And Yarran needs game time. Scotland should be the sub.

I set out my reasoning in my original post, but I've gone with these changes because I think we'll need run this week in the heat. I don't think Hendo would make the distance (he plays a very taxing style of game) at the moment.

I also think Yarran might be a good choice for Sub this week - for a variety of reasons, but particularly if he's still a bit sore (and he might not have the tank to last the distance in the heat either). I also like the idea of getting another experienced player (Scotland) into defence with Jamo still missing.

We need more size than we had on Thursday, regardless of heat. I have no problem playing Hammer at full forward, but we had absolutely no cover once Waite went off.
As a minimum, we need to replace one small player with a tall (Bower)
Should be a great game to get miles into Hendo, and Yarran for that point. Get them into some form for the following week.

Lucas needs a full game, wether in the 1s or the Ants.

Another one to consider is Carrzzo, who is currently ill.

I'm tipping the game will be over before the fatigue kicks in.

I'd bring in Bower for T-Bird and Henderson for Lucas with Carrazzo/Ellard as the Sub.

We always have Walker and Betts to add into the midfield rotations later in the game if required.

Note: We also played Brisbane this time of year last year. Jonathon Brown isn't playing for the GC.

We've been run over in the last quarter the last 2 times we've played at the Gabba.

Admittedly, those games weren't against the Suns, but I think the MC will go for fit running players ahead of underdone KP players.

FB: Duigan White Laidler
HB: Russell Bower Yarran
CC: Gibbs Murphy Simpson
HF: Scotland Thornton Garlett
FF: Walker Waite Betts

RR: Warnock Curnow Judd

Int: Hampson Robinson Armfield

Sub: Carrazzo

So that's: Out - Lucas, In - Bower

Carrazzo may miss altogether with a virus, so consider Lucas, Ellard and maybe even Collins in the mix for the sub role.

BTW ABNS, don't discount Lucas' ability to add run. The kid is extremely fit, but just lacking a little confidence at present. The Suns will offer him a bit of a latitude and he can run and carry better than Ellard.

So kickoff is 6:50 QLD time?

I would guess that Ten will start the actual game at about 8:00 Vic time??
Coverage starts from 7:30 but you'd assume that they need 1/2 hour for voiceovers about Gary Ablett

They'll go live if they're starting the coverage at 7:30.
