- Ablett will do what Ablett does[/quote]

What Ablett did at Geelong will be a far cry from what he achieves with GC.

Yes he is a good player but I think overrated and certainly will not get the same number of easy kicks/cheap handballs he was fed at the Pussies.

Cats were the dominate midfield for a few years with some good rucking and plenty of hardened bodies to smash it up in the packs, GC will have no one doing the inside stuff/blocking like the cats.

They also have Fraser  who is not even a poor mans Otten/King.

We will see this year that GAblett is no CJudd thats for sure!!

I/C: Prestia, Smith, McKenzie,
Sub: Tape

Emg: Weller, Hutchins, Bennell

Hmm. I would have thought it would look more like this:

FB: Hutchins Coad Brown
HB: Harbrow Bock Flanagan
CC: Krakouer Toy Rischitelli
HF: Bennell Day McKenzie
FF: Matera Brennan Fraser

RR: Smith Swallow Ablett

Int: Hunt Harris Prestia Caddy

With the possibility of Tape for Flanagan or Hutchins.

Ellard is automatic inclusion for mine and someone has to make way for him. Curnow made a very impressive debut against Richmond but i am not sure whether he can back that up on the hard fast surface of the Gabba. Carrazzo played ok but may a need a run or two at the bullants to regain full fitness. Robinson and Lucas were the other two that would have been line ball selections for Richmond but i would play both of them against the suns.

Why is Ellard an automatic inclusion? What does he do better than any of the midfielders/smalls currently selected?

Carrazzo has come down with a virus, so that probably says something about his performance. Lucas would be the only player I would be gunning for at this stage, along with one or both of Thornton & White. That said, I'd been dropping Lucas for McLean or Houlihan, not Ellard.

Did you watch Ellard in the pre season? Ellard was our most impressive midfielder with good skills and a ferocious approach to the footy. He is in the side before Curnow, Robinson & Carrazzo

In terms of playing the same role, how is it that you have McLean ahead in the pecking order of Ellard ?

Personally I thought Murphy was our most impressive midfielder all pre-season, and that showed come round 1. Ellard was just ok in bits and pieces, and did a bit of grunt work inside along with Judd, Murphy & Curnow. Definitely a better player than this time 12 months ago, but not an automatic inclusion.

As for why McLean, he hits harder, is better overhead and a superior kick and handball. Brock is that 40 - 60 m type player with the ball in hand if required, while Ellard is more along the lines of 20 - 40 m. Both can snag a goal, and perhaps Ellard is more versatile but we have plenty of blokes in front of him in that regard. I honestly think McLean is the better player.

We will see in action the Josh Toy, the son of former Carlton U/19s and Reserve player Mal Toy.

Um, no.
Ellard was good last year, deserves to be on the senior list, and is good back up.
Maybe he's in the side before Curnow, but not enough for Curnow to get dropped on his effort, especially when Ellard didn't play this week. He can earn his spot.
To suggest that Ellard is ahead of Robbo and Carrots is just plain silly.

Some good points Stamos, but Ellard did play this week as the practice matches are still going in the VFL. Round 1 of the VFL is next weekend, so Ellard hasn't missed a beat in terms of game time. Jamison will also miss just the one game in that respect.

Ok, I've had another look over and Dixon probably will get a go ahead of Day at this point, with Brennan moving to CHF. Personally I think that suits us just fine.

Others to look out for are:

Midfield: Jolly, Stanley, Weller
Back: Daye, Liddy
Forward: Lock, Patrick

i cant believe someone would want to drop curnow after making such an impressive debut

assuming he cant back it up is so unfair ...

id be dropping carazzo and lucas before curnow - give them some time in vfl to get back into form

Bit worried about how we will cope with the heat and humidity. Watched the Lions v Freo game tonight and they were struggling and cramping up. Then we have a 6 day turn around to play Collingwood. :banghead:

Pies will also have had a 6 day turn around plus having played 2 games at the leg crippling etihad so no excuses thanks....from a draw perspective we have it easy this season....

We have more midfield rotations, therefore we win. This is basically what most games so far this week have boiled down to, with the sub rule, and I think this will continue here.

As solid a back six as they have, as well as Ablett, they barely have a first choice midfield, let alone support off the bench, or guys who can pinch hit in the guts from a flank with much effect.

I think it's pretty close to certain Waite will get rubbed out. How this will effect team selection I think will depend on Bower's fitness.

If Bower's fit: Hendo and Bower for Thornton and Waite
If he's not: Hendo for Waite

Would be my only changes. Apparently Carrazzo has been hit with a virus....Ellard could be a straight swap if there is a forced one there.

I think Armfield gets another week up forward, but get the feeling unless Armfield has a decent game, out for Collins is a fait accompli sooner or later, in terms of position onfield. In terms of his spot in the 22, I think he may give Lucas a run for his money as the sub.

If White has a good game this week, makes selection interesting for Collingwood...

White/Lucas out ... Watson/Ellard in!

Yarran needs to put in more effort.
