69 inside fifties.

If we can manage a 69 like that every week it will be a great year.

Walker can be a great 3rd forward, he's just not a FF.
Was very good in the first quarter, certainly struggled after Waite went off, but wasn't too bad in the last.
We just need at least one of Waite or Hendo, get Tex on the 3rd defender.

Amazing that people are calling for Ratten's head on the back of this game.
When you have players missing that many relatively easy set shots structures and coaching moves have little to do with the state of the scoreboard.

That might be so, but I would prefer 69 inside 20s.

Wow our forward structure sucked when we didn't have a single tall forward! Who knew THAT could happen?

Walker wasn't great when the focal point of the forward line? Yeah, well he is the 3rd or 4th forward usually..

We were bad. But people are seriously getting hysterical..

Unfair criticism on Gibbs. He has been injected into the midfield to be a classy outside player.. not a hard nut. The structure is clearly Robbo/Curnow inside Judd a bit of both and Murph/Gibbs outside...

Gibbs was very influential on the game.. get over yourselves.

Yep.

In the end we made a meal of it and were perhaps a bit lucky to escape, but the game should have been over at half time. We squandered so many chances and they didnt even kick a behind at half time. We should have been up by 50 points at half time, we were only up by 20 and the Tigers got on a bit of a roll in the 3rd and we had our mandatory shit quarter. The scoreline in the end flattered Richmond when you conisder we dominated the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters.

Dont forget our spine in the backline was missing and we had to stop the coleman medalist who is a gem of a player and singlehandedly kept them in the game and got them in front. We get Jamo and Bower back we will have a bit more of a defensive structure. Throw in Hendo up forward too and we may have a bit more of an idea going up there.

Ive got to say I was disappointed with Murphy in the 3rd quarter, he went missing again when it counts, if hes going to be considered elite in this competition he needs to be able to play consistently well and lift when the team needs him. Judd again showed why he is elite when he lifted us (again) in the last quarter....No passengers is our motto this season isnt it? Hampson cant mark to save himself, I dont know about him being in our long term plans, if he still cant hold the friggin pill 5 years into the system, when is he going to learn? Granted he popped up at the end with a vital goal but it still doesnt make up for his poor performance overall.

On the other hand, really really rapt with Robbie Warnock, he is a gem and has the potential to be one of the best ruckmen in the comp. Impressed with Laidler on debut and Curnow played a role. Betts and Garlett again very good up forward with their tackling pressure. Judd again lead by example in the last quarter and got us up and running.

A bit lucky in the end but I only say that because we were trailing at the last change by 13 points, when we in fact killed them for 3/4 of the game. The scoreline flattered them and we shouldnt be too hard on the boys, but they definitely need to improve against the big boys of the comp. We still have Jamison, Bower, Hendo, Kruezer to come back and losing Waite didnt help. We can take a lot out of that last quarter because a year or two ago we may have crumbled but the team has a stronger character these days.

Go Blues

Any win in round 1 is a good one IMO.

A third of our best team out. One or two goals away from being out of the game. Only really close because we kicked poorly.

Plenty of good signs IMO.

Take the 4 points and move on.

IF only Hampson can kick the footy, he is not the Answer to our forward line....Henderson should provide a good target....

We had too many players missing plus we lost Waite Early so glad to get the Points and move on. We need to break the Hodo next week and make it 2-0 :hitcomputer:

Our perspective on this site is a bit schizophrenic and screwy; however, one observation I'd like to make is that why can't those who continually make arrogant statements like Riewoldt not being a problem for us take a good hard look at themselves? We have to be on the ball and accept that other sides, even Richmond, can arrive upon some factor in their side that can be a huge positive for them. We are not competing against ourselves or a static opposition, we have to be prepared for things like this. I'm not talking about who we took into the side but supporters who continually scoff at the opposition. :screwy:

Carlton played like a bottom 4 side tonight. No forward structure, backline was blown to bits by Jack Riewodt. Midfield only broke even with Richmonds. On that performance Carlton are not going to win to many more games this year. Brett Thornton must retire immediately, he was woeful.

Even more arrogant to write off Riewoldt considering our spine of Bower and Jamison was missing

Maybe we could put the mighty Gunners out there next time instead?

A couple of years back Shaw at collingwood was getting tagged off half back and all the collingwood idiots were asking why Malthouse didnt move him to the wing. Malthouse let them all know in a presser that moving him would not teach him anything. Said that he was going to get tagged as a halfback because he is damaging and that he has to learn how to deal with a tagger.
A few years later he is dashing off halfback in a grandfinal and is untouchable.

Why is it that Ratten refusing to move Yarran when he is being tagged "dumb coaching" ?

I dont agree with many of the points Keogh and Prelim99 made earlier in this thread. To me their ideas sound terrible.

Riewoldt is the best FF in the comp and was playing on Simon White, a 7 game player, who had a poor pre-season due to surgery.. 6 Ain't that bad considering.
