It would seem silly to me to risk using them anywhere before the 4th quarter and even then you could risk being down one man in a tight contest. The other issue you have is fitness. These guys will have to show up and play in the VFL the next day or rotate between AFL & VFL with additional sessions during the week.

They mentioned this on OTC last night. How silly will it look if a substitution (of a fit player) was implemented in the 3rd quarter and then in the last quarter there's an injury and the fit player that was subbed can't come back on. Silly rule change.

They will probably get subbed on about 15-20 mins into the last quarter. Teams can cover being down one rotation in the last quarter, especially when you factor in the fresh player.

Makes sense Stamos. That's about all they can do.

Oops, I meant to type 3rd quarter. I reckon the sub will play about 40 odd minutes of game time.
If the team plays for 2 1/2+ quarters without an injury, and then brings on a fresh player, they will be able to cope being down 1 rotation for the last quarter.

I see it as something being used in the third quarter unless injury strikes. By that stage, if you have someone go down, it's not going to impact you as much with the fresh player, as it would have in the first half.

EDIT: More or less what Stamos said; didn't see his last comment.

You picked White, you got it right.

You also picked Joseph. :P

Instead of giving Watson an early debut, we've got White as the sacrificial lamb. Short defence, and we're hoping we'll force turnovers and run the Richmond talls off their feet. Great, but is White fit enough for that, and who is he playing on?

Riewoldt? No. That's Thornton's job.

Vickery? Oh dear.

Miller? He could well out-body White in the square, but probably his most favourable match-up.

Watson would have been fine for this fixture if the fitness staff thought he could run it out, but apparently he's not quite there yet. That's a shame, because we are tactically out-matched in our defensive line-up.

Oh dear...me too.
I see White as a 3rd tall running defender, although it had been said he was recruited to take Jamo's spot if he couldn't stay healthy.
If that's the case then he should be fine with the body to body stuff, but from what I've seen he's been more of the third up defender whi can read the game well and runs pretty well too.

Good luck to big fella, and I hope he defies my views of him...that would be fantastic for the team.

I just hope the ball doesn't get into Richmond's fowardline enough to expose us.
