As for Swann, the books aren't his strong point but he has a decent head on his shoulders. Having a whiz with the books hasn't helped Melbourne.

hehehehehehehehe.......... having a whiz....hehehehehehe

I was interested by this discussion to see the sizes of the boards of all clubs -

12 - Carlton
10 - Adelaide, Essendon*, Port Power
9 - Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, Western Bulldogs
8 - Collingwood, Femantle, North Melbourne, West Coast
7 - Brisbane, Geelong, Cold Coast

Perhaps we are a little top heavy but still glad to have Jeanne Pratt on board

Looks like 8-9 members are the magic numbers when it comes to AFL team boards...

Jeanne Pratt is a good addition to the club but we really need to start reducing the numbers as per Richard Pratt's wishes.

Agreed.

Can someone tell me what the issue is?

Is it a case of guy's wanting to stay on the board? OR is it just the way the board is structured.?

If it's a matter of people being reluctant to quit the board, what's the attraction of being a board member? I would have thought most board members would have plenty of other things (ones that make them money) to do.

we might be missing a significant message in her appointment.

'senior' VP suggests that she will be more than just a token addition. I absolute rate Mrs Pratt and have been familiar with her for 40 years.

with reference to the above criticisms of process and transparency.....this is very much valid perspective.

However, overwhelmingly i can only take positives from her appointment. Despite the obvious advantages she brings....the fact we have engaged a very tough female and afforded her a 'senior' title, suggests to me that the 'off field game' will be challenged and will evolve in shape and substance.

Have to agree LB - Boards appoint members all the time there is nothing sinister in all this.

There is definitely a message in giving her the title "Senior VP" - and hopefully it will lead to a streamlining of the board.

This is a great appointment - and also means that all board members and administration at Carlton are on notice to perform.

Think bigger, because I can counter that with Emirates.

Being given the title of Senior Vice President is not an accident - it basically gives her the role of Deputy Chairman of the Board - so if Kernahan steps aside, resigns or is unable to fulfil his duties as President then she will be acting President.

As long as we are not talking the AHP Chanagi Party Meats company of Pyongyang, North Korea, I'm happy.

Ok, I'll stop now.

Well she is as good as President now anyway. What board member would oppose anything she said?
I`m happy she has been appointed but wasn`t Raphael Geminder meant to be the conduit between the Pratt family and the club?

Technically neither are members of the Pratt family  - but very happy to have Jeanne on the board.
