I was speaking with one of the other board members over the weekend an this is basically how the appointment panned out....
Mrs Pratt was already the 'Patron' of the football club. In her regular discussions with the the board in that capacity she asked "what else can I do to help?". As one of the best fundraisers in Australia she was asked to help out with fundraising.
Mrs Pratt has then said " I'd like to know and understand more about the business" .
The board have then said " Why don't you join the board then to get a better feel of it - your portfolio can be fundraising"
Mrs Pratt agreed and then said " OK , but I want the membership portfolio as well"
So the way I see it - we have have an astute business woman with unparalleled fundraising capabilities and a strong historic connection to the CFC who has PUT HER HAND UP and has said that she want to do more to help the business side of the football club in fundraising and membership strategy. She is doing this in a voluntary capacity as are all board members.
It would also be naive to say that she knows nothing about football as she has been around the game since her husband won the Morrish Medal in 1953.
Expect results almost immediately - if anyone remembers how her late husband operated - things happen very quickly when the Pratts are on the case.
Thanks for the insight darknavy.
I am so excited with the news.
I too would like a democratically elected board, but I don't know what that means at Carlton.
I do recall vividly when the Greens won the German election in 1980 and by the end of their reigh in was obvious that democracy = anarchy.
What I do know is that I do not want an oligarchy or an autocratic style of governance over my club like we had in the Elliot era.
Believe me, there are thousands of members who would love a seat on the board to feed their ego, but could add no value whatsoever.
Having Jeannie there makes me feel so much more comfortable, because I'm sure it's not ego that drives her with the CFC.
