Stephen Kernahan - President
Jeanne Pratt AC - Senior Vice President
Richard Newton - Vice President
Marcus Clarke
Zac Fried
Raphael Geminder
Adrian Gleeson
Mark Harrison
Greg Lee

Yes but if you ask some on here they would suggest only about 4 do anything so that then makes it 4 to run a $35 mill company.

Sorry Cazz, but that sort of thing is like saying "If you don't like either major party, vote for an independent". Let's see....how many independent PMs or Premiers have there been lately?

I don't think one single person here is questioning Mrs Pratt's worthiness to be on the board, but most feel like we've been hoodwinked by the lack of information the board gave us about an upcoming invitation to the board. Smacks of feather-bedding to most.

I'd feel much better if the board were far more open with voting members and proposed several possible candidates as people the bard is considering inviting to join them, their past, their experience, and their qualities and why they would be considered for such a position.

If I got that sort of thing, even in an email (god help us all...the comms department might have to do something!! ), I'd have no problem at all with not even getting a vote on it.

It's the mushroom treatment we object to.

Cazz yes perhaps we should be advocating for change
I also had this view when Mr Pratt came on the board
I understand about the filling of casual vacancies on the Board and the rules pertaining to it
Seems hypocritical to advocate that after Simon Wison leaves this is part of streamlining board members and then when someone else comes along that they want on they say there is a casual vacancy left by Simon so we can appoint X
Having said that Mrs Pratt ticks all the boxes as far as being on the board even though she nearly wiped the sunnyacres bus the other day in her Big yellow Mergatroid

Josh I have no take as I don't follow it close enough and I don't know the inner financial workings of the Club and all its intricate details. Unless you are part of the Board how would anyone else know what goes on in the meetings and who has what input. Some might be quiet achievers and some may sit on their hands. I wouldn't know. The only think I ask of my board is that they don't leak and they don't stab each other in the back.

My posts in this thread are quite simple. The Rules allow the Board to self appoint. At times this is a good thing and at times it can probably be a bad thing. No set of rules or election process will satisfy all of the people all of the time so that is pie in the sky stuff to think otherwise. Just look at the current debarcle that was our last Federal election.

The person the Board has appointed on this occasion looks to tic more boxes than most of the CFC membership could ever hope for. The members should be over the moon that a Billionaire is prepared to give her time and expertise to the Club.

Regards Cazzesman

Perhaps they weren't considering anyone else at all and when the recent situation arose that Mrs Pratt was interested and available the Board made a decision they thought would be in the best interests of the club.

I don't recall anyone being up in arms when Mr Pratt was appointed President unoposed without the members being consulted. Why was that?

And without appearing to be a zealot
5 year plan doesn't talk about board succession CEO succesion etc
This board needs to be planning for who is to takeover from them
They need to have like at a number of other clubs an advisory committee of young leaders who advise the board on important issues and this is the pool of directors for the next generation and let the members know
They need also to be thinking about the next CEO if Swann leaves or gets an offer he can't refuse

Cazz Mr Pratt made a wonderful contribution but if you go back in time there were people in here that were concerned about the process of the appointment -I was one of them
Without starting a bushfire it was a bit like the process of appointing Ratts -not any process at all
There are casual vacancies and the board from time to time need to fill them BUT when you are talking about Vice President or President why should it be done surreptitiously surely their legitimacy in those positions require member approval

I'm very uncomfortable with this.

This club has a long history of being the fiefdom of very powerful players. Yes, there have been more than one occasion where this has worked extremely well. But times change, and we now have a very recent example of spectacular failure from which the club is still recovering.

The processes at play in the appointment of board members often now represents a behind the scenes game. I don't see how that is necessary or healthy. More particularly, it is representative of a culture which hasn't moved on. I'm not in the business of quoting our old friend Synbad, but he once said something along the lines of: Carlton - great VFL club; hopeless AFL club.

To me, this appointment suggests we are still the fiefdom of a select view. The sad thing is that the Board doesn't seem to either get that or care.

we might be missing a significant message in her appointment.

'senior' VP suggests that she will be more than just a token addition. I absolute rate Mrs Pratt and have been familiar with her for 40 years.

with reference to the above criticisms of process and transparency.....this is very much valid perspective.

However, overwhelmingly i can only take positives from her appointment. Despite the obvious advantages she brings....the fact we have engaged a very tough female and afforded her a 'senior' title, suggests to me that the 'off field game' will be challenged and will evolve in shape and substance.

If the current board keeps needing additional members, whether it's Jeannie Pratt or her son in law, doesn't it mean there are those on the current board that are not contributing. How do we ever reduce the size of the board?

And the argument that we should avoid elections because they cost money is very dangerous. Don't a certain number of board members need to be up for re election each year. If that happened and two of them were convinced to stand aside then Jeannie and her son in law could come in unopposed, or if not they could be voted in. Democracy at the club went south with Elliott - a leading businessman with great acumen an love of the club etc. - and that worked real well didn't it. I'd rather go to the expense of an election with a spill of all positions and an 8 person board, and if Jeannie is on that, then great, I think she would be a better president than Sticks.

I think the club has an unhealthy reliance on individuals from the Pratt family, and sems to keep wanting saviours. That's not sustainable.

It would be great if any member of the board would come on here and tell us, their members, what they are doing either personally or collectively. It was popular when they wanted to be elected, but outside of that using such methods to connect with members seems not to occur to the committee, which might suggest they are out of touch

Very patronising statement. Are you really that much smarter than every other voting member?

Dont be so ridiculous Buzz.

Everyone knows I'm the smartest.

BTW, I'm happy that Jeannie is involved but I'd like to see us concentrate our efforts toward a potential quality future president. Unfortunately all indications are we're absolutely bereft of quality potential leaders in the boardroom. Bringing in short term options wont help that.
Sticks is a good bloke but.....

I'm not talking about even being consulted. I'm talking about being informed. Not treated like the gullible cash cows that we're obviously seen as.

I haven't seen one word here of anyone not welcoming her to the board with her experience etc.

Style....well.....I guess your and my idea of what constitutes 'style' differs greatly.
