Call me naive, but I would have thought a multi, multi, multi million dollar board member, with a vast array of contacts and links to big business and the world of high finance, is worth a shot.
That's fine Caz and I am sure as a member you would have chosen to vote her in as would most members, so why didn't we get the chance?
Firstly if we have a vote we can get rid of some of the dead wood on the board, secondly the board and club can show a bit of respect to the members who they clearly value so much by allowing us to choose the board members. The current board appear to be struggling and yet they think they are able to appoint more and more to the board without consulting the members. Isn't Jeannie's son in law another who was appointed? Anyone know what he has done?
I think Jeannie is a smart woman, but I am not sure if her interest in footy reflects a love of Carlton or a love of Dick Pratt. I thought she was a lot more interested in the Arts than footy.
It's pretty simple. Identify the right people, have an election, get rid of the deadwood. Meanwhile Stick stays on as a glove puppet president courtesy of his friendship with the Pratts. Hopefully Jeannie has something to offer, and hopefully she can put money in to address the debt. This may be a desperate move by the board to try and address the debt, by at least giving our board more financial credibility by having someone really rich on it. We seem to be grasping for saviours like some broken down old VFA club.
Maybe she will be the one to bring some order and structure to the board, maybe not. But either way it is not our responsibility because Jeannie didn't think an endorsement by the members was worth the trouble and more did the Prez.
