This is the sort of game kids with big raps on them can show their true value.
I expect Watson to hold his own. Did he?

Yes easily

Whilst on the backline, I am wondering how new boys Duigan and Laidler (against his old team) went?

Very well. Both strong at it particularly Duigan

And finally White. How did he go?

Limited time and impact. Still abit rusty and getting up to speed again.

With Jamison suspended for the first 2 rounds it's the abovementioned along with Bower who are going to hold the backline together and the oppositions bigger bodies in check.

I guess Bower, Laidler, Duigan, Russell, T-Bird and maybe Watson

Twitter has Selwood vs Gibbs. How did Gibbs go?

Good in the 1st half and then looked to be rested on and off later. Selwood looked to have 40 poss today and no-one could control him

The fact we were ahead by 3 goals during the 3rd, peppered the goals early in the last before we took our foot off the pedal says a lot about our capability.. Having Hampson Garlett and Yarran stand out is a real win for us, let alone the fact Hendo and Carrazzo start their 2011 campaigns today.

I'm excited...and glad we have the Tigers and Suns in the first 2 rounds

The Blues were 2 gls up early in the last and set shot goals were missed Waite, Simpson, Carrots, Walker and a couple of others.

In the last 10 minutes the Cats through Steve J and Selwood won some contested ball and several of the Cats forwards ran ahead of the play to kick goals. Up until then we had their measure. Anyone who was at the game would say there were some great signs overall. We are playing a tough brand of footy and defending well.

Hammer is on the way. Great game.
Yaz was scintilating at times as he cut his way through traffic. He's a gem.
Jeffy was electric everytime he had the ball.
Duigan will be Mr Reliable
Jamo had his best 1 on 1 game for along time.
Robbo has improved.
Laidler was very good with his decision making.
Hendo needed the run as did Carrots and Jordy.
Watson was strong at the contest and did the simple things very, very well. Waity could learn alot from him in that respect.

I think Collins is so far ahead of Griggs it is not funny.

The Blues have had a rock solid pre-season and if you drop the bottom lip about todays final result then you are just a missing the point of it all.

I agree Cman. The major things from that game that need to be addressed are the slow starts and not nailing easy goals.
I am sure the coaches saw loads of technical issues that need to be looked at but two stated above are things that can be address as a team.
I am looking forward to this year. Hoping we perform better than we ever have as a team. One unit with one goal.
As for individuals it is going to be great going to games to see Yaz, Garlett and Hampson. They are all excitement machines and will be worth paying top dollar to watch.

Look it was hot and a lot of players were cramping at the end, though not sure if any Geelong players were cramping :?:

Concern is that this loss was just like the Swans final loss. Had them on toast early in last quarter, and players missed many set shots, Waite AGAIN a culprit, and Simpson is quickly turning into a joke of a set shot - reckon he missed 3 maybe 4 shots on goal today

Yazz and Garlett exceptional, the latter BOG for mine.

Hampson best game he has played for club.

Waite a presence but as signposted earlier his misses cost us the game.

Walker fumbled marks/butterhands all day, the ones that stuck were wobbly. Should have 2 more gls but lacked sureness and looked nervous, apprehensive. Still, good that he could have had 4.

Russell and Carrazzo bit rusty upon return, the former guilty of some howlers in the first half, and the latter undisciplined twice.

Robbo as per usual a few turnovers courtesy of kicking wildy and not showing poise, but apart from that was very good and among the Best IMO. just goes so hard and gives it his all inside.

Curnow got into the game the longer it went, and even Levi had some touches, which was good to see.

Good to see SOS, Jo, and the 3 boys in the Pratt Stand.

Onya Cazz

I wasn't at the game, but what you describe is how I feel about our team.

Good to hear your views on Collins...it's no secret I was not a Grigg fan, nor Baumont because of their one sidedness and inconsistent disposal.

And to think we rested Warnock and Murphy and McLean Kreuzer Houla and a few others to come back too, whilst Carrots, Hendo and of course Jordie starting their season and will improve...how could you feel negative about 2011.

I think I'll throw a few more $ on the Blues for GF chances and Top 4.

Acudoc - CFC twitter said Watson & Twomey were the subs but Watson featured in the second quarter. I thought Henderson was the 2nd sub.

Bondi - Watson held his own physically but I'm not sure of his opponents. Regularly kept his feet and anticipated well to recover where others overran the ball. Has a little problem with the ball off the deck but with a bit of puppy fat and at 197-8 cms, that's not really a surprise. Will absolutely monster the incoming ball when he hits his straps.

Everyone else - Game was played in something a frying pan, you cannot judge the last quarter that well except that we spent our petrol tickets and ran forward too hard (i.e. too much effort/fiddling around with possession) and it hurt our disposal in the first half, and our shots at goal in the second.

Several of our mob cramped up at the end, mostly notably Russell who despite being barely able to stretch through his calf, stayed out until a runner called him in. Poor from him and it cost us a goal.

Will fashion up a report, but bear in mind I only caught 2.5 quarters, and out of the 29 man squad didn't sight Ellard, Bower, Armfield, Davies, Tuohy or Joseph once (I know Kerr played in the Bullants).

We won't ever be a premiership threat until we stop seeing these sorts of fadeouts/slow starts. I would hope Ratts gave them a gobful afterwards.

How many regular season games do you see at 1 PM on a Saturday in 31 degree heat? I could have laid down some tin foil on the boundary line and cooked a sausage sizzle for the crowd.

I was at PP today. I understand that it was just a practice game. That being said, it was absolutely unforgiveable that professional senior players (such as Waite, Walker, Carozzo and Simpson) miss easy sets shots at goal at a home ground to seal the game (from being 20 points up) half way through the last quarter. It sets the wrong example to the young players and un-ties the team's good work. We had Geelong on toast. Our team does not know how to close the deal. See the Brisbane final; the Swans final and today. However, from what I saw: Yarran will have a break out year; Garlett, Duigan, Laidler, Lucas, Watson all good. Hampson and Collins did some nice things. Keep persisting with Casboult. I like Twomey.

Go Blues !

Nice day at PP - tough conditions -hot - Blues should have won inaccurate kicking cost us big time in the last no hysteria required disappointed but played against a good side and if you dont put them away when you have your chances they will beat you

Simpson walker and waite all had chances that should have been goals in the last -the J man kicked a couple in the end and Cats got home

Great ammunition for the coach I reckon

Yarran was BOG up to half time and reminded me of mcleod of adelaide - brilliant left foot goal in the first - jamo one of our best with gartlett and hammer - waite judd gibbs and scotland all solid games

Promising performances from duigan laidler curnow and watson - collins looks sore to me maybe groin - Casboult tried hard did a few good things but still in the development stage

Armfield played a quarter and didnt see him afterwards - carrazzo limited time for first half looked rusty to me - russell cramping badly at end -hendo needs to play for bullants in practice match needs more game time - white also hurt himself in the 3rd and looks like a leg injury

Did any body else hear Juddy going beserk at lucas on the bench before half time -telling him where was he ie where is your head after making a series of mistakes - got the ball alright but gave it back a lot

best for Cats varcoe and selwood -taylor scarlett milburn solid

A good hit out against a good opposition -one that got away but we dont fear cats and next time might be different

Not playing today murph betts warnock (certainties for round one) thorton davies joseph may also figure in selection

Those sides had credibility points and previous successes to draw upon. They had every reason to not give a shit about pre season matches. Until proven otherwise, we are still a middle third side who have few points in the bank. Would have been a good tonic to win today especially after being up. anyway, bring on rd 1

Thanks for the reports. Any noticeable injuries? I dont think i saw Judd's name mentioned anywhere, did he play?
Wonder how many players the MRP will find to rub out this week!

Sorry forgot Collins

Didn't get a stack of it but is a lovely kick delivering inside F50. Looks a poised HFF who will be a designated kicker inside F50. A lot more poised than Grigg, that is for sure, though Grigg more a ball magnet right now.

But happy with Collins' field kicking inside F50m

As I said, I'm just stating first impressions I've gotten from listening to match updates, and admit I don't come from any position of authority. I'd love to hear more detailed reviews (such as Cazz's) to give some perspective

I went to the game, some people dont know the difference between a fade out and taking the foot off in a practice game. We outplayed them overall, all good signs apart from Walker.

Chill out Donstuie or you will pop a blood vessel. Get a grip on the concept of the game with players coming and going and some abit rusty. 90% was very good and if a couple of the set shots had hit the mark in the last you would be posting how happy you are we won.

I'm cool as a cucumber Cazz. I'd just like to get some perspective from people (such as your match report) who were there about the nature of the game. Hearing "Practice games are meaningless" over and over doesn't tell me anything.

Would you rather collins get 15 poss and use them well or Grigg get 25 and give 10 back and kick the other 15 straight up in the air?

It was mixture of Fatigue, Selwood, Many missed opportunites, Steve J, a lift off the pedal and some better players being underdone.
