29-man squad:

1. Andrew Walker
2. Jordan Russell
4. Bryce Gibbs
5. Chris Judd
6. Kade Simpson
9. Kane Lucas
10 Matthew Watson
12. Mitch Robinson
13. Chris Yarran
15. Jeremy Laidler
16. Andrew Collins
18. Paul Bower
22. Shaun Hampson
23. Lachie Henderson
27. Dennis Armfield
29. Heath Scotland
30. Jarrad Waite
31. Marcus Davies
34. Nick Duigan
35. Edward Curnow
36. Rohan Kerr
38. Jeff Garlett
39. Wayde Twomey
40. Michael Jamison
41. Levi Casboult
42. Zach Tuohy
43. Simon White
44. Andrew Carrazzo
45. Aaron Joseph

Bit suspicious that they're resting Murphy given he only played a half last week, and got an early shower in the GWS game. No Brock, Setanta, Betts (in need of a rest), Warnock (in need of a rest), Thornton (in need of a rest), McInnes, Ellard and Houlihan.

I would say freshening him up before a big year  From memory he has played every game this pre-season so there is no need to take a risk with him. It also gives someone else a go

Nice to see JR and Hendo back.
I hope Murphy, Warnock and Betts are all OK and just being rested.
Anyone know if McLean (or Houla) are playing Bullants?

Bower has had more minutes than him, and really he should have been rested in the early stages. In fact, he only played one of our NAB Cup games, 3/4 of the GWS game and a half last week. Either he's been over-training or there is a reason for concern and they're trying to manage it for round 1.

Murphy copped a knock just before half time in a marking contest which most likely exlpains why he missed a half last week and will miss this week. To me it looked like a corked thigh.

My take on the team:

FB: White Jamison Armfield
HB: Russell Bower Yarran
CC: Scotland Curnow Simpson
HF: Collins Henderson Kerr
FF: Walker Waite Garlett

RR: Hampson Judd Gibbs

Int: Casboult Watson Lucas Carrazzo Robinson Twomey

Subs: Duigan Laidler

I think the sub bench is a good way to rest Duigan & Laidler, who have played every game thus far, but require additional match practice to gel with the team. They can spell Yarran & Bower respectively, who have put in similar minutes this pre-season.

Davies is a fair way back in the queue from where I'm sitting, as are Tuohy & Joseph. They're all solid options through the season in case of injury. Casboult is the only other ruck option in the squad, so he must play, while Twomey and Curnow need to be put through their paces.

In terms of surprises, I could definitely see Scotland and/or Armfield being rested for Tuohy & Joseph. With any luck Setanta, Houla & McLean will resume in the VFL.

Murphy's also struggling with some personal demons, if his twitter is anything to go by.

I hope they use the game to trial someone else at fullback, since we're going to have make do without Jamo for a few weeks.

Little surprised that Thornton isn't playing for that reason.

Alternatively, perhaps they're just being cautious with Thornton, not wanting to risk him getting injured before Round 1 given that we are already without Jamison.

They should rest Bower. My heart will be in my mouth with him on Saturday.
