I still remember the old dunnies on the Lygon St end, they were God awful... but great.

I think my first game would have been around 1980.

I saw a few blokes take a tumble on their way down there after a few too many ales - it was a decent roll from the top down to the turnstiles

This has developed into a great thread!

One of my fondest and strongest memories is the noise in the Heatly Stand when Johnno ran through the middle or the mosquito fleet of the early 80's buzzed around - the anticipation was when the goal would be kicked not if.

Must admit though it's hard to go past the "last suburban battle" vs the pies in about 1993ish where we flogged them by (from memory) 118 points! The beer tasted sweet that day and I left for Perth not long after so that one really sticks in my mind. I think the song tey played was called "I'm blue" or something like that - was a bit techno from memory.

Good luck to all those who still go down to training and the praccy games there! Enjoy the memories!

Go Blues.

Was Hot Hot Hot another?

Yep, Hot Hot Hot was played as they did a snapshot of each player and their stats on the scoreboard.

I remember The People by the Music being played as well... That might have been when the hovercraft was doing laps and Captain Carlton was inciting the crowd by kicking footballs into the stands.

Wasnt that game in 2000 - the AFL thought we were going to shift it to the MCG but big Jack woudlnt allow it???

Eddie Maguire had to walk across PP to teh opposition change rooms in front of teh Pratt Stand and he copped a barrage all the way - then two years later they reversed the bloody result on us.

Could have been bomber - maybe I came back for the game. Was a while ago regardless!

Maybe the pies centenary game at the G was the one just before I left. I forget.

My first game at Princes Park was Round 1, 1989... It was a game against Footscray in the wet and an unknown guy (who incidently I never heard of again after this game) named John Georgiadis kicked something like 8 or 9 goals, and the Dogs belted us. I played in the Little League for the Blues that day too... Ahhh.. good times!!

Definately going with the mates, and of course standing behind the goals at the old Heatly Stand end..

I think it d be a great marketing opportunity for the Club to put to the AFL that during each pre season, we get to play one Saturday afternoon practice match at Princes Park against an old traditional Victorian club.
The club can sort of dress up the day as a kind of annual event where we celebrate our history... You know.. get some past champions to play a curtain raiser... Get a guy to walk around the boundry selling peanuts and raffle tickets... Get the Bluebirds back up and firing... Stuff like that.
It'd be great! The old timers can get their yearly chance to 'relive the glory days' of watching footy at our home ground, and the young 'uns can get their taste of what it used to be like in 'the Olden Days'...

Blue by Eiffel 65 was another annoying song that played week after week....

That way a game against the Filth in late 2000 during the peak of Kouta's powers.
The match was dubbed 'The Last Suburban Battle' and be belted Collingwood by something like 110 points.

Sure was. I was at the game too. Belted 'em.

Saw a decent brawl outside the Ground where some Carlton blokes were absolutely caning the Scum, and the coppers were just watching LOL...

Carlton 28.12 (180) def Collingwood 10.9 (69) @ Optus Oval, crowd 30,096 on the Sunday, 9 July.

That Blue da da de song was accompanied by the Blue Zone dancers. Looked like a move from the club to go after the "pink" membership.

Who remembers the short lived pre game "entertainment" 'Blues Brothers'?

Basically impersonators of Jake and Elwood Blues with large foam hands.

That was weird.

whilst being nostalgic my dad always took us to one game a year at Waverly usually against Melbourne for some reason - but on July 23rd 1977 I pretended to go to a mates place and caught the train from the Eastern suburbs and the tram up elizabeth street to watch Carlton play collingwood in a sardine tin like atmosphere at PP - dont know how many were there but remember talking to a couple who kept asking where my parents were - Peter Mckenna kicked a bag playing in the Magoos for Carlton he was terribly excited about it all - couldn't understand how anyone could get excited about playing reserves. Stood at the left hand side of the Heatly stand behind the goals

We got done I got home late and got in trouble - but still have the ticket some where

my 1st game was blues v pies and all i remember was that i was with a family friend who was in grade 2 and i was still in kinder so it was 1969. i also now know that it was anzac day and we lost, spent many games thru the 70's watching from inside the scoreboard with a mate of my dads who sometimes took me up there. couldnt see well but was a lot of fun, i think the last game iw atched there was rnd 22 1976 when we drew with the bulldogs

I remember that lol... That was in about 1995 around the time that the Blues players released a song that went something like 'We Are The Navy Blues... Wooooaahhh'

Stan Magro's hit on Jezza on the wing was about 10 metres from me.
Malcolm Blights 90 metre goal after the siren was also unforgettable.

Yes, they opened up the car park behind the Gardiner / Elliott stand and it was $2 or $4 to park.

otherwise if you are stuck for parking - park @ the zoo - $2 flat rate for 5 hours...

As I come from the Flemington Rd direction I usually park in the Royal Park Golf Club car park - never an issue there, its slightly closer than the zoo and its for FREE

It was a different world back then. My kids can't believe that I went to the the '68 grand final when I was 10 with just my 3 cousins aged 9,10 & 11. Or that we camped out overnight for tickets on our own. No way you would let your kids do that these days.

Loving the nostalgia of the thread. Being in the Hawthorn stand briefly last Friday reminded me of the only year that my mates and I splashed out on a reserve seat. Front row in 1st bay at Carlton end. It was 1981 and I reckon we could just about reach out and touch Bosustow when he took mark of the year in the pocket. Good times.
